The ABCs of Another Steppe Into Adventure!- Last Africa Ch. + World Showcase Pt. 2

Hi Leisa! I'm really enjoying your trip report. I will be back to comment. Hannah has finished her first week of her 'prelims'- just 2 more exams to go. Thank goodness! I think this weekend will be spent studying Biology. I need to brush up my skills - I had put catabolic and metabolic pathways right out my mind and seemingly life depends upon them! I wasn't intending to do the contest but now that you say 'Time is running out' I'm suddenly going "Oh no! Time's running out? What's the answers? What's the questions? Don't panic!!

I'm glad you've stuck around to keep reading!

Those are TOUGH pathways to put to memory! I struggled with them in A&P a ton, but faked my way through it enough to pass. Krebs was not a fun one. :(

The Contest is meant to be fun- I hope this chapter's questions are a bit easier. :)

PM heading your way.

Got it!

7. I do think it is no radios or as my Dad would say 'the wireless'. Then again I think it might be no visibility out windscreen due to the fierce air-conditioning in the buses!

WOW! I haven't heard "wireless" in quite a while! LOL!

And what IS it with the AC on the buses?! :scared1: WAYYYY too cold! Even if it's hot out, in 30 seconds you're freezing!

8. Not sure I can possibly get inside your head...I think it is a pair of 'I love Mickey Pyjamas' (Would that be pajamas?) as he think he is the big cheese.

I like that answer! Cozy jammies are always a hit in my house.

9. Well Alan and I got given some money towards a much needed PC. It is so nice to have one that loads quickly and starts up consistently. A surprise present from my best friend was a Hotel Chocolat Chocolate Christmas Wreath Box. Believe it or not I haven't opened them yet.

You haven't opened them?!

I just got the kids a much needed PC too. Been running on a broken laptop for WAY too long.

10. No I have resolved not to make New Year's Resolutions.

You seem very....resolved. ;)

Yummy - what can be better than watching food porn while unable to do anything about it, lol? Hopefully I will be healed and there will be a good deal on a trip for March for me. I'm needing some of that sunshine and yumminess!

Nothing can be better! I"m glad I could offer some delicious looking diversions while you're laid up. How are you doing, Donna? Off the pain meds yet? When is your follow up appt? You should be healed by March, I'd think! Maybe some lingering stiffness, but even if you don't have the cast off, you should be able to travel. And for the record, I need some sunshine and yumminess too.

I can see that....you'd have to just to get through a handful of booths!

Indeed. I think I went from 11:00- around 7?? Didn't stick around for Illuminations (don't even know if there was one) but I rarely do for that. Not my fave.

Not bad for a morning's work!

:cheer2:

The corned beef sounded really good, not sure I would have been brave enough to try the pancake.

The pancake isn't something I'd do again. Meh.

Well then I guess I'm glad we never made it there.

It's WAY out of the way, and unless beer's your thang, I can see NOT going to that stop again. Or at all. But, it's a pretty handy bathroom that's usually not crowded.

I would not have liked that, at. all. I like my green beans warm and the only other things in that salad I would have liked are the feta and vinaigrette.

I like 3 bean salad, so the beans in there were just fine.

Again, too many odd things together for my taste....

There definitely was a lot going on.

That chocolate cake is my favorite sweet treat and I never miss that one!

And yes, I would do that one again.

Totally! I never would have been able to eat as much as you did, but then again you did say you tossed or didn't finish a few of them.

There was no way! WAY too much.

I've gone for a week and still not been able to do everything!

I'm not sure I'd WANT to do everything. There were a ton of things that didn't even sound appealing. But there was enough stuff on the list that yes, it could easily take a week.

I missed one in the Rover picture....

That was a tough one, I know!

Doh! How could I forget the Carousel of Progress! And it was only recently that I noticed the second dog in Pirates near the beginning of the city scene. Before the burning.

Dang it! And I as well only noticed that dog on one of my last few trips.

I counted 12 (if you call the sampler one item). If you got your pin it was 13.

No pin. I'll take your answer of 12. Sampler one item.

I'm going to say yes, but if not we may have an extra few laying around or on eBay... :rolleyes1

This does not surprise me in the least! LOL!

Noted.

Yes I knew that a complete list of Disney Recipes existed, there are several sites where you can find them. I'm going to say Raglan Road Bangers n' Booz. I just made the Le Cellier Cheese Soup for NYE dinner and it really doesn't need to be cooked in an instant pot. It's quick and easy enough on the stovetop. I think the Mac n' Cheese might also get overcooked in the pot. I don't like Cooked Carrots, so that's how I arrived at my decision.

Good line of reasoning there!

This was new to me, and I'm going to go on a little mission soon to make some Disney items to keep myself busy while I wait for my next trip.

** A few of the photos are taken from other internet sources as I failed to get some I thought were important to this update. They are watermarked for credit. :)

I'll come back to this later...

It started early enough alright with the customary cup of coffee from the Food Court. It was warm and purchased with the utmost love and affection.

Awww.... someone really loves her coffee.
I'm thinking this is one of those things in life that you just can't do without.

And eat she did. For HOURS.

You go, glutton.... er... girl!

After all, not only had she been all the way to Mars and back by 11:00, she’d also flown around the world, and built a mediocre car, if you’ll recall.

::yes:: That would build up an appetite.

Good thing there happened to be a Food Festival nearby so she could consume the same amount of food she normally eats in 3 months.

Holy crap. :faint:

Pretty pic of you! :)

a Magic Band that was about to go through the mother of all MB workouts.

I've read the rest... was that thing smoking by the end??

with an oink-oink here and an oink-oink there… Here a pig, there a pig…

Better watch out for an old famer named MacDonald.

(see last Trip Report where she drank from A-Z)

I remember that. Still surprised that you did it.

but today, we’ll witness her putting to shame most any pubescent boy on a high school football team.

At first, when I read that, I was like "There's no way. Those teenagers can pack it away."

You proved me wrong.

Remember, Boys and Girls, repeat after me:

Eat all the food!

Rather, this booth hosted stuff that had somehow incorporated spicy chili or foods that had a fermented nuance or “bite” to them.

Hmmm... I might give that one a miss. I typically don't care for really hot foods. If it's a little spicy, that's okay. But I like to taste my food, not be running around in panic looking for someplace to stick my head in water.

In the end I went with both the Smoked Corned Beef and the Sweet Pancake.

Then again... those do look good...

But, let me tell you what, Folks- the pickled onions knocked my socks off

Oh, no! And you just started! Did you get blisters?

let’s just say that Steppe does NOT do chicken and waffles. Ever.

Have you tried it? Ever?

After all, packing on 10 pounds in a week was about as easy as losing it a week later in Africa. Had I known, I’d have had a few more samplings.

Uh, oh. That does not bode well for the African portion of the trip.

If you know me at all, you know I can hold my bladder for about the same amount of time as a 4-year old little girl who’s had a Coke.

Well, I didn't know that... but this is crucial information to know for future reference.

their 3-year old saying, “Daddy, I gotta go.”

This is actually not that big a deal.
"See your mother."

See? Problem solved.

And then there’s Steppe”, he said to himself. “I’d better put one every few yards.”

Beer is disgusting. (Flame all you want.)

Nope. No flames here. I agree with you.

But... since you asked...

flame_zpsgml7s70r_1.gif

But, Mac and Cheese ain’t!

Agreed!

It wasn’t BAD, I guess, but it wasn’t last year’s Loaded Mac n’ Cheese either.

Oh, that's too bad.

Something maybe to slug a beer with and move on, I suppose.

Um.... I thought you said beer was disgusting?

her first stop was the Greece Kiosk.

Greece kiosk, yes.
Grease kiosk, no.

Unless it involves singing and dancing from the late 50s.

Food and Wine really rocks my world because I love the idea of tasting loads of different things and having that variety.

::yes::
Agreed!
You get to try a lot of different things for not as much money (comparatively).
The portions are smaller, so you're not full after just one.

None of that appeals to me.
Yet, I'd try all of it.

My favorite was the Dolmates. I have no idea if they had meat in them,

Ooohhh... mystery meat dolmates.

Wait... didn't we just have the whole Spam thing conversation?

expert oinkers know how to pace themselves

Of course. That trough ain't gonna be full all the time!

I’m going by the order of my photos, so have no idea where each kiosk was really

Oh! I can help you out, there!
They were in Epcot.

You're welcome.

The location probably matters to y’all about as much as how many blooms my Christmas cactus has on it right now (6)

Thank goodness you said that!
We were having this huge argument around the table the other day.
"I say she has 5 blooms!"
"No! You're an idiot! It's 7!"
"You're both stupid! It's obviously 4!"

Food got thrown. Insults hurled.

It was not a pretty sight.

served up a delicious, mouth-watering portion of Loaded Mac n’ Cheese that Steppe proclaimed “Dah Winnah” of food offerings. I couldn’t wait to have more.

But they dashed her happy, throw-caution-to-her-waistline dreams and moved it to another kiosk.

I read on another TR that it was located near the front of the park. Too bad you missed it.

So... coming back to the "watermark" on the photos. There isn't one on this, so I can only assume it's a selfie.

But look, this salad looked good and sometime in the next day or so, all this food was gonna have to, you know… find a way out.

:lmao:
Whatever do you mean, Liesa?

Besides, it tasted GREAT! I really loved this one. The combination of beets, feta, beans, glazed nuts and vinaigrette was lovely.

Nope. I don't think I'd like that one. Not a bean fan, don't care for walnuts and beets are hit and miss.

Waddle, waddle, oink, oink… moving along.

0b4b936c2f151e51c4d748d3d57686ea--this-little-piggy-little-pigs.jpg

I like the Australian motifs on this!

That was really interesting.
The more I looked at it, the more I saw.

Can't figure out what that is between the koala and the butterfly near the bottom.
A dingo?

CmuCpWcVUAA5wLg.jpg

Next Steppe had her Mates throw another shrimp on her plate.

I remember when that commercial came out.
And all the Aussies were saying "We'd never say that. We'd say "prawn"."

I like shrimp. It’s much better than beer and when tossed together with pineapple, bell peppers, snap peas, and a spicy sweet and sour sauce, well, oink ‘er up!!!

::yes:: Yum!

(“Shut up, gall bladder, you have NO say in this.”)

 Yeah! Pipe down! You're getting more whether you like it or not!

but she listened to it about as well as she listened to her patients that rate their pain a 9 while they laugh at memes on Facebook.

:sad2:
Thanks for that list you sent me for Kay.
That is not a 9.

had the potato pancake with smoked salmon and herbed dill sauce. A BIG hit; I loved it! But this year not so much.

Um.... no. Not a potato pancake fan. Smoked salmon is okay, but I won't go out of my way for it.

But, that’s the beauty of F&W! You win some, you lose some, and in the end, it’s plain old good old fun.

Yes! Agreed!
I'd try even those items that I said I probably wouldn't like.
Because that's the fun of it, isn't it?
That whole "probably" thing. For all I know, the one thing that I'm sure I wouldn't like would be the hit of the day!

(remember my Clan MacLeod and Clan MacLaren stories from V&A last year?!)

Nope. Sorry.
If you mean from 2 years ago... in 2016... then yes.

:snooty:

Holy crap that looks good!
Wait! I had that! (also in 2016) It was good!

Holy Kilted Clansmen!!! Sing me a bagpipe tune and stuff a few more of these in my face.

::yes::

And.... Sure! I'll sing you a bagpipe tune.

Screeeee!!! Screeeeeeeeee! Screeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

("stop squeezing the cat!!")

This may well have been my favorite dish of the entire day.

Really!

Steppe bestows upon it a resounding, Please Sir, May I Have Some More Award.

I-WANT-SOME-MORE-6.jpg

a couple walked up and asked if they could share the table. Of course, they could, and I invited them to join me. After some idle chit-chat, I learned that they had recently moved to Florida so the man could fulfill a longtime dream of his to become a driver for the Safaris in AK. He waited 6 months to get that exact position and he absolutely adored his job.

Huh! Cool!
I love that you can actually do that.
How cool would that job be???

When asked what the favorite part of his job is, he told me that it’s just seeing the animals do what they would naturally just… do. Eat, play, fight…

That's great! I like that he's not bored or jaded with it.
"It's just another job."
Er... no, it's not.

and that right there friends, is what makes it all so very worth it to stop and smell the roses now and again at Disney.

::yes::

I rarely interact with others. Too busy moving fast. But... that is a cool story.

By now, I was just plain uncomfortable. I knew that, while I was only 2 countries into WS, there was no way I could possibly conti.....

Yep. You've had quite a bit. No way you could eat mo...

WHAT’S THAT?! Another food kiosk!!!

:sad2:

:rotfl:

(Pipe down, I’mFullO’Meter, there’s always room for dessert and booze!)

Yeah!

And... yes.

The Irish know how to do a lot of things: farm potatoes, make great whiskey from said potatoes, trap Leprechauns after they drink that whiskey, lots of great things.

Solid basis for economic prosperity.

And these are a few more things Ireland does well- brown bread with stout cheese sauce, honey mead, and choco cake with Irish Crème Liqueur.

mmmm... that all sounds really good!

the sauce was way too salty and thick.

then again.... maybe not.

You probably think I’m full now…

And you’d be right.

I would think that. How could you eat that much!?!?

Nothing works off calories better than cruising around WS doing what World Travelers do: shopping, taking in the shows, taking pictures… all that good stuff. Unless you don’t like to shop. Then it’s not “good stuff”, it’s just torture.

Interestingly enough, I don't like shopping, but I do like it in WS.
Maybe because it isn't all women's clothing.

:goodvibes That's a great shot! And grabbing two forks? :lmao:
Nicely done!

hmmm…. 2 forks, 3 people. Which one of them would get to dine with Steppe?

So which one was it?

I considered that “dinner” and with that, there was no more food that day for me. I’d eaten my fill and had a ball. Life is pretty sweet!

Until the next kiosk!!!!!!

no?

1) I didn’t get my Loaded Mac and Cheese. But the good news is that I can make that anytime I want with this recipe:

Loaded Mac 'n Cheese

Thanks for that! I just might try it. :)

I also didn’t have room for the Morocco Hummus Fries, or the Kahlua Pork Slider

Too bad. That Kahlua Pork was my favourite thing.

The last day of F&W probably isn’t the best day to sample the wares. Some of the food was not as good as I knew it probably had been on other days earlier in the Festival, or as I’d remembered it from last year.

Good to know.

It’s always more fun when you can go with a tasting partner! You can try more things and compare notes.

Oh, sure. Now you tell me!

There wasn’t anything that was so disgusting that I gagged on it like last year’s Escargot croissant from France,

Ew.
Well... that's good.

I don’t think I got my beloved Rice Cream this day

What???? How could you not????

Wait..... <re-reads the copious amount of food she stuffed in her face.>

Nevermind.

Food and Wine deserves at least 2 days, possibly 3 or even 4. There's just too much good stuff to try and cram into one day.

I think I did two days. I think. But I do know that I barely scratched the surface.

Pkondz- 30, LwtL, all dogs (2), 40 ornaments, 2nd, EE, no danger detected, rose, ornament or cup of coffee, Tickets to Come from Away, Nice resolutions- 12

Woot! I'm in first!

3) Let’s see how carefully you were reading: How many items did Steppe buy at Food & Wine?

Hmmm.... this is a tough question.
Some of your items that you bought had multiple items.
So...
You bought 12 items,
but you ate/drank 14 items.

Question 3: Did I find my pin before I left the park?

Yep.

5) Does Steppe get ill later that night from her debauchery?

Gonna say your gall bladder took it easy on you.
So, no.
At least, I hope not.

6) I got an Instant Pot the other day. What delicious Disney food should I make in it next week? (In case you’re interested in cooking stuff from Disney, did you know A complete list of Disney recipes existed?)

a) Loaded Mac n’ Cheese
b) Le Cellier Cheddar Cheese Soup
c) Raglan Road Bangers n’ Booz
d) Carrot Ginger Soup from Boma

Didn't know that web site, but do know that recipes are out there.
Thanks!

And.... I'd go with the Boma Soup.

I mean, ok, it was good after I got over the initial shock, and I did like it, but geez, “pancake” doesn’t necessarily translate to sweet cornmeal to me most of the time.

Oooh strange! That's not what I would have expected at all without a warning.

My favorite was the Dolmates. I have no idea if they had meat in them, but it was super flavorful and the lemon sauce was really nice on top. The pita with the feta dip was also quite good, but was also just a little bit too strong. I think maybe if it’d been “cut” with some cream cheese or just heavy cream it’d been a lot better. The octopus was very tender and also really nice. This was a great combo, but expert oinkers know how to pace themselves and I didn’t finish all of this happy little trio.

Mmmmmm Greece kiosk! Nom! My mom married a Greek gentleman, and his parents have just come to stay with them for a few months to get to know their new great-grandbaby, and his mother does a lot of cooking...they're all preparing themselves to gain about 20 pounds this winter. :thumbsup2

I like the Australian motifs on this!

Neat!! I like this!

Holy Kilted Clansmen!!! Sing me a bagpipe tune and stuff a few more of these in my face.

Wow, this looks amazing!!

He waited 6 months to get that exact position and he absolutely adored his job. When asked what the favorite part of his job is, he told me that it’s just seeing the animals do what they would naturally just… do. Eat, play, fight…

How cool! This is also my dream job!! (Well, my second dream job, after being friends with Fantastmic Mickey. But I'd also settle for Jungle Skipper though. I'm flexible.) It's so interesting to see who you can meet at Disney. Everyone's got a story :goodvibes

(I also didn’t have room for the Morocco Hummus Fries, or the Kahlua Pork Slider, or about 40 other things on my “Wanna Try List”)

This is the problem! Too much food, too little tummy...

Oh my gosh! :lovestruc

Awww.... someone really loves her coffee.
I'm thinking this is one of those things in life that you just can't do without.

You are absolutely right! :)

Only slightly more than when I did my Shop Around the World. ;)

I remember that. Still surprised that you did it.

Easy peasy. :)

At first, when I read that, I was like "There's no way. Those teenagers can pack it away."

You proved me wrong.

I think I surprised myself too!

Eat all the food!

Very well done!

Hmmm... I might give that one a miss. I typically don't care for really hot foods. If it's a little spicy, that's okay. But I like to taste my food, not be running around in panic looking for someplace to stick my head in water.

Oh no, this one was only mildly spicy. Most food in Disney is 'dumbed down' to suit more palates. (Sadly)

Oh, no! And you just started! Did you get blisters?

The last time I got blisters was on my solo trip in 2010. Well, ok, I think I got a very small one in 2016, but it was no big deal.

Have you tried it? Ever?

Yep. Not a fan!

Uh, oh. That does not bode well for the African portion of the trip.

No, it was not a good ending in that dept.

Well, I didn't know that... but this is crucial information to know for future reference.

It very well might be!

This is actually not that big a deal.
"See your mother."

See? Problem solved.

You think of everything!

Nope. No flames here. I agree with you.

Where do you come up with this stuff?!

I wish the world had more adventurous eaters. I mean everything's worth a try. :confused3

Yes, we did. But Spam's not that mysterious. Pork and a ton of salt...?

Oh! I can help you out, there!
They were in Epcot.

You're welcome.

You're sooooo helpful! Do you have a tip jar?

Thank goodness you said that!
We were having this huge argument around the table the other day.
"I say she has 5 blooms!"
"No! You're an idiot! It's 7!"
"You're both stupid! It's obviously 4!"

Yes, you'd be correct.

:lmao:
Whatever do you mean, Liesa?

Ummm.... we've had this conversation before about Disney and the need to eat intentionally for prevention

awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww.... I neeeeeeeeeed one!

That was really interesting.
The more I looked at it, the more I saw.

Can't figure out what that is between the koala and the butterfly near the bottom.
A dingo?

CmuCpWcVUAA5wLg.jpg

I can't make it out for sure either but that's as good a guess as any.

^ LOL!

I remember when that commercial came out.
And all the Aussies were saying "We'd never say that. We'd say "prawn"."

I remember that too! Still was funny!

You're very welcome! I hope all of that is useful. :)

Um.... no. Not a potato pancake fan. Smoked salmon is okay, but I won't go out of my way for it.

Mmm, I love potato pancakes when they're fresh and soft.

Yes! Agreed!
I'd try even those items that I said I probably wouldn't like.

How cool would that job be???

VERY!

(Not quite as cool as being a nurse in the First Aid Stations, but pretty cool.)

That's great! I like that he's not bored or jaded with it.
"It's just another job."
Er... no, it's not.

No, it's certainly NOT.

And now this begs the question: What would your Disney Dream job be?

::yes::

I rarely interact with others. Too busy moving fast. But... that is a cool story.

Slow down!!!!!!

Solid basis for economic prosperity.

I'd think so.

I would think that. How could you eat that much!?!?

Remember, I did throw some out. :)

Interestingly enough, I don't like shopping, but I do like it in WS.
Maybe because it isn't all women's clothing.

Me too! I am NOT a clothes hound, and purses and other stuff like that just doesn't float my boat. But I do love the specialty shops of WS (with the exception of 2- but that's for a later update) and browsing in them.

:goodvibes That's a great shot! And grabbing two forks? :lmao:
Nicely done!

Hehe! Sometimes accidents work out. ;)

So which one was it?

Guess!

Too bad. That Kahlua Pork was my favourite thing.

I remember you had that with a DISMeet group. :)

What???? How could you not????

Wait..... <re-reads the copious amount of food she stuffed in her face.>

Nevermind.

I did get some this trip. Just not that day.

Woot! I'm in first!

Why yes you are! But not by much.

Didn't know that web site, but do know that recipes are out there.
Thanks!

You're welcome!

Oooh strange! That's not what I would have expected at all without a warning.

See?! I"m not the only one! It was just... odd.

I just saw on your thread about the Greek guy who kept ooohing and ahhhing. LOL!!! Fun!

Neat!! I like this!

The more I looked, the more I found. ;)

How cool! This is also my dream job!! (Well, my second dream job, after being friends with Fantastmic Mickey. But I'd also settle for Jungle Skipper though. I'm flexible.) It's so interesting to see who you can meet at Disney. Everyone's got a story :goodvibes

I should just throw it out there about dream jobs at Disney. I'd bet we'd get a lot of variety. :)

This is the problem! Too much food, too little tummy...

YES!

Oh my gosh! :lovestruc

So stinking cute!

Last night was the first night without my one Tramacet tablet - should be able to make do with regular Tylenol from now on. I suspect the pulled muscles are now at least 50% of the pain issues - quite the odd pattern of rainbow bruises, but I'm more optimistic now. Hoping the follow up x-rays in 2 weeks will show good bone healing, then the dreaded physio starts. But I have purchased my motivational reward jewellery to keep me focused

You're making progress! Good for you!! Eat lots of high protein foods and it'll help too. And I think you're right. Soft tissue injuries often take even longer to heal than bone. I'll be interested to know what the f/u xrays show too. Ah yes, the Physical Torture. And look at you- already rewarding yourself. LOL!!

You are absolutely right! :)

:goodvibes

I walked a minimum of 1.2 miles. That's only around WS. Added the FW part and yes... I built up an appetite.

And then tore that sucker down!

Only slightly more than when I did my Shop Around the World. ;)

Is he growing something questionable? Is his pork of low quality?

E I E I don't know.

Easy peasy. :)

For you maybe!

Oh no, this one was only mildly spicy. Most food in Disney is 'dumbed down' to suit more palates. (Sadly)

This is true!
Yay for me!

The last time I got blisters was on my solo trip in 2010. Well, ok, I think I got a very small one in 2016, but it was no big deal.

It's like Disney 101.
Glad after you got your socks knocked off you had the sense to put them back on.

No, it was not a good ending in that dept.

You think of everything!

It's a Dad thing.

Where do you come up with this stuff?!

Some from Google. Some from a source I have. Some I've built. (Not that one, though.)

It is, that's why I said "I suppose".

I suppose.

I wish the world had more adventurous eaters. I mean everything's worth a try. :confused3

I don't!

Keeps the lines shorter for the "interesting" stuff.

Yes, we did. But Spam's not that mysterious. Pork and a ton of salt...?

It's the "other" that worries me.
"Harry! A rat just fell in the vat!" (I feel Like Dr. Seuss.)
"No worries! We'll just say it's "other"."

You're sooooo helpful! Do you have a tip jar?

Well, I jarred my shin pretty darn good this morning...
Pro tip. Don't do that.
Blood's dry now, though.

Poop. Ah well... I"m beginning to foment a small plan... something having to do with.... next year.

Oh! Good for you! :)

Ummm.... we've had this conversation before about Disney and the need to eat intentionally for prevention

:rolleyes1

awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww.... I neeeeeeeeeed one!

Sure! You've already got goats.
Might as well, fill in the rest of the barn.

I remember that too! Still was funny!

An early example of "going viral".

You're very welcome! I hope all of that is useful. :)

::yes::

Mmm, I love potato pancakes when they're fresh and soft.

Hmmmm....
Maybe I should rethink this.
The only time I've had potato pancakes is when my Dad made them.

My Dad can't cook.

It is! Sometimes we get surprised and that's super fun!

Agreed. I might never have tried those sliders, except I'd heard they were good. And they were!

Make it stop!!!!

Not a bagpipe fan?
Or not a fan of me squealing?

(Not quite as cool as being a nurse in the First Aid Stations, but pretty cool.)

Ah! Yes, that would be perfect for you!

And now this begs the question: What would your Disney Dream job be?

Oh, geez. TBH, I've never really thought about it.
I guess... it would be something where I could bring happiness to others, especially children.
I've done that a couple times already at Disney where I've been asked to represent them and "on stage" and I really enjoyed it.

Slow down!!!!!!

Oh! Sorry. I'll re do that more slowly.
I
rarely
interact
with
others.
Too
busy
moving
fast.
But...
that
is
a
cool
story.

Did that help?

Remember, I did throw some out. :)

True.

Me too! I am NOT a clothes hound, and purses and other stuff like that just doesn't float my boat. But I do love the specialty shops of WS (with the exception of 2- but that's for a later update) and browsing in them.

I know one of them.
I really should get that job. Bringing decent items to the Canada gift shop.

Geez.... just off the top of my head Sucre a la Crème from Quebec. Ice wine from the Niagara region. Wine from BC. Beaver tails. (People would stop eating cronuts, though. hmm... not really a gift shop item, but still.) Inuit soap stone carvings. Ketchup chips. Canadian chocolate bars, or Laura Secord. Maple syrup for God's sakes! Hudson Bay blankets, mitts, tuques, mugs, etc. Tim Hortons coffee...

Hehe! Sometimes accidents work out. ;)

Oh! I thought you did that on purpose.
Still funny, though. :)

The one that made you laugh, of course.

I remember you had that with a DISMeet group. :)

Actually had it twice!
But yes, that was one of them. :)

I did get some this trip. Just not that day.

Of course you did!

Why yes you are! But not by much.

The contest is yet young. :)

3) Let’s see how carefully you were reading: How many items did Steppe buy at Food & Wine?
Depends on whether you consider sampler 1 or 3 items. You bought 1 sampler, but it was three items. So, I would say the number of items on the menu purchases was 12. The number of different items was 14.

4) And now a little side story: I have a little tradition of collecting a pin or two from each of my trips. Something that represents a highlight or big event of my time there. This year, F&W was a fun event, along with the Christmas Party and Dapper Day. So, I began to search for a pin very early on in the day. I stopped at several locations beginning with the place right at the beginning of WS (that I don’t know the name of) and was told they had NO pins for F&W?

Huh? That seemed odd. They told me to try Mousegears or Pin Traders back by The Electric Umbrella. Okay, sure, I could do that on the way out. Which I did. Neither place had them. I was pretty worried I was not going to find my pin for this trip and was very sad! Question 4: Did I find my pin before I left the park?

Yes. My thought is you stopped by GS and they either had them or pointed you to the right place.

5) Does Steppe get ill later that night from her debauchery?
Well duh, after all of that, yes.

6) I got an Instant Pot the other day. What delicious Disney food should I make in it next week? (In case you’re interested in cooking stuff from Disney, did you know
a) Loaded Mac n’ Cheese
b) Le Cellier Cheddar Cheese Soup
c) Raglan Road Bangers n’ Booz
d) Carrot Ginger Soup from Boma

b

Initially, I thought a because you didn't get it at F&W and talking about it made you crave it, BUT...I don't think you'd be able to do M&C in an instant pot because you'd have to cook & drain the macaroni first. Soups & stews seem more likely to me, so hopefully I didn't over think it.

That just sounds horrible! I hate to be cold and I still get chilled in what consider pretty mild (50-65). I understand all too well about acclimatization.

!!
What I wouldn’t give for some 50-65 deg weather! Today it’s 10. Which compared to New Years weekend with highs around -5, is downright toasty, no, that’s a lie, it’s still stupid-cold. It did get up to 51 Thursday around noon, everything melted, then the temps dropped from 51 to 24 on my 45 minute drive home and it all froze up.
I do not belong here. I don’t know why my ancestors thought this was a good idea (ok they were farmers, and this is good farming country, but why couldn’t they have farmed orange trees??) :cold::cold:

Playing catch up on the DIS as usual....loving reading about all that foooood!!

“pancake” doesn’t necessarily translate to sweet cornmeal to me most of the time.

That does sound a little...odd....they definitely should have included something about cornmeal in the description...

but it wasn’t last year’s Loaded Mac n’ Cheese either.

I'm so sorry to hear that...it looked good in the pic!!

Rice cream though...I'm intrigued...does it have fruit on top or something? What is that?

3. I counted 12?

4. Yes...you found your pin (I hope!) usually I find them at the little open air shops on in the stretch between FW an WS

5. Ill? No. Uncomfortable? Probably

6. My first thought is loaded Mac n cheese but that doesn’t sound like an insta pot thing so I’ll go with Bangers and Booz

If the items you tried, the only ones I had this past trip were the Irish bread and cheese sauce & the Scottish dessert. I didnt care for the cheese either, I seem to recall it tasting gritty. But the Tipsy Laird...that was as good!

And then tore that sucker down!

Well someone's got to do the hard work around here!

E I E I don't know.

Okay, that was funny!

It's like Disney 101.
Glad after you got your socks knocked off you had the sense to put them back on.

At least I had them! (and they weren't still between ME and my room.)

It's a Dad thing.

They can pack cars AND remember everything.

Some from Google. Some from a source I have. Some I've built. (Not that one, though.)

You have BUILT them?!

:faint:

Keeps the lines shorter for the "interesting" stuff.

....for folks like me!

It's the "other" that worries me.
"Harry! A rat just fell in the vat!" (I feel Like Dr. Seuss.)
"No worries! We'll just say it's "other"."

I need a vomit emoji stat!

Well, I jarred my shin pretty darn good this morning...
Pro tip. Don't do that.
Blood's dry now, though.

Oh, the old "try and walk in the dark" trick. I know that one!

Sure! You've already got goats.
Might as well, fill in the rest of the barn.

No, that little piggy would go to the market with me.

Hmmmm....
Maybe I should rethink this.
The only time I've had potato pancakes is when my Dad made them.

My Dad can't cook.

They HAVE to be fresh and done just right.

Agreed. I might never have tried those sliders, except I'd heard they were good. And they were!

I'm thinking I need another F&W Walk-about.

Not a bagpipe fan?
Or not a fan of me squealing?

I like a well-timed/placed bagpipe.

Oh, geez. TBH, I've never really thought about it.
I guess... it would be something where I could bring happiness to others, especially children.
I've done that a couple times already at Disney where I've been asked to represent them and "on stage" and I really enjoyed it.

So, maybe a diver at The Seas? I can see you doing that!

Did that help?

Very
much.

Thank
you!

:rolleyes2

I have a Tale of Mockery coming up....
Your ideas are lightyears ahead of the current state of affairs there.

Oh! I thought you did that on purpose.
Still funny, though. :)

Well... :rolleyes1

Depends on whether you consider sampler 1 or 3 items. You bought 1 sampler, but it was three items. So, I would say the number of items on the menu purchases was 12. The number of different items was 14.

Got it!

Yes. My thought is you stopped by GS and they either had them or pointed you to the right place.

Good theory.

Well duh, after all of that, yes.

It was a lot!

You and several others think alike. :)

All noted!!!

Brrrr! I lived in that (and worse) in Crapistan for too long. Yes, pineapples and coconuts seem like pretty nice crops to me!

3. I counted 12?

4. Yes...you found your pin (I hope!) usually I find them at the little open air shops on in the stretch between FW an WS

Noted!!

It doesn't surprise me that there was so little crossover with our items. There are literally hundreds to choose from and it'd be a tough go to get to even a small number of them.

Playing catch up on the DIS as usual....loving reading about all that foooood!!

I seem to be playing catch up here more often than not as well these days.

That does sound a little...odd....they definitely should have included something about cornmeal in the description...

I would have certainly thought so!

I'm so sorry to hear that...it looked good in the pic!!

Rice cream though...I'm intrigued...does it have fruit on top or something? What is that?

It is a rice that is cooked in milk like a pudding but there is whipped cream folded in to make a very light dessert, then a strawberry compote of put on top. I eat it stirred in, but you don't have to. I just love it!
