American Idol new season

NOT impressed.....
This is not 'new' or exciting.
Not The Voice or X-factor.

I don't find the Voice new or exciting any more either. It is the same formula every season-Adam and Blake have their shtick and then a woman is thrown into the mix. All of the shows become routine after a while.

I watched Sunday's episode last night. Always being a huge Idol fan....here are my thoughts. (for what it's worth! :teeth: )

I think they're trying to be like the Voice with ALL the time being spent on the few contestants we saw. I really like seeing more auditioning. We can hear their "stories" later when they've gone farther and we have more vested in wanting to know more about them.

The judges were OK. I think they just haven't settled into a routine yet, if they will. Not that I was much of a Simon fan but I think they were being a bit too nice but again I just watched Sunday's episode. And yes, Lionel changing his mind on that one contestant was odd.

And, just my opinion, but Ryan Seacrest didn't seem to get as much airtime as he did on old Idol after each contestant.

I did like it overall, though and glad it's back on. :)

I am enjoying it. Maybe it is just me, but there seems to be quite a large number of contestants with real talent than the last few years of AI on Fox. :confused3

I haven't watched in years but last night it was on while we were paying bills and adulting. I really, really liked it! I will watch this season.

I like it.

I agree about The Voice. I watch through the blind auditions and then lose interest. XFactor has been good some seasons but not consistently. The groups that have made it big out of XFactor are in large due to Simon Cowell.

I think once the judges get comfortable in their roles it will be really good. It took the last three a bit to settle in and even then sometimes they could be too nice. I do miss them though.

LOL so in the last episode they showcased a 17 year old girl (on the piano singing Adele) from the "small town" of Mooresville, NC...yeah no. Mooresville is by NO STRETCH small town full of cows. It is one of the suburban bedroom communities of Charlotte and is where MANY of NASCAR drivers live (in their McMansions). For the package they did on her they must have searched out the one rural looking part of the town. Hogwash.

Yes!! I just had to laugh! Definitely not the Mooresville I know. I'm from Charlotte and now live in a small town just outside the city. That girl attends the church where my brother is pastor. She is incredibly talented and an extraordinary young woman. No matter what happens on Idol, she has a bright future! And fun fact - the baby she nannies for (that was shown in her segment) is the daughter of my sister-in-law's sister, who also auditioned for Idol many years ago. Her audition in Chicago was televised, but she didn't make it to Hollywood. Fun to see how things come full circle and how people's lives are connected.

I liked the first 2 nights but am getting bored already. The comments from the judges this week are the same as last week , which is a bummer as I was enjoying them , thinking they were MAYBE gong to actually critique some. So the local talent to me is the blonde haired kid~Samothias~ (Sam Sohmer) who was last tonight. From the town next door to mine, but I am still Team Laine.

the 2 sister's tonight? I thought the younger one was gonna blow when they asked to hear her sister, and before even scoring her. I mean, I know it's all scripted yadda yadda, but she looked seriously ticked off

Yes she did!

I thought the girl who sang Whitney Houston was one of the best of the season and they didn’t let her through. Even my DH who barely watches, stopped and said how good she was. I think whenever they see “vocal coach” as a job description they are automatically so much tougher on them. She was so much better than the younger of the 2 sisters. I thought she was bad.

I agree. I was shocked they didn’t let her go to Hollywood. I told DH they probably would have if she had said she was a waitress, store clerk or anything but a vocal coach.

I am happy Idol is back, really enjoying it so far and like all the judges too.

I'm enjoying this season so far. I like the judges, but some of the people they have let through is mind boggling to me. I'm certainly no musician and cannot sing at all! I think it was last night's show when there were twin brothers performing together with their father on guitar, and I wasn't impressed with them at all. I think they sang a Bruno Mars song, and they barely sang it. The judges were blown away, and I totally didn't get it. There have been a few other instances where I wondered what the heck the judges were hearing that I wasn't. So far, I'll keep watching.

I do miss the original though with Simon, Paula and Randy in the early seasons.

I started watching the season that Carrie won and watched for a number of years until I got tired of it. I decided to give this a try and so far I love the judges! As always some people that got passed through I disliked.

I'm really enjoying this season. I like the judges a lot. I like that they aren't showing a lot of the bad singers that audition just to be on TV. I, too, was shocked that the Whitney Houston singer didn't make it through. She had the range and did a beautiful job. The one sister was sure upset last night that her sister went through. Her eyes were throwing daggers. I don't think the one auditioning in the first place should have made it through. And of course, I cried with the last contestant whose son was with him. I liked him a lot.

I think I am in for the season.

I am DVRing tonight's show (Hollywood week) while listening to the Cub's game..I am hoping to see/hear me some Laine!

Well, so far they put 2 female singers through that are very annoying to me. They sent David F home (the guy with the crutches) and now they just let that girl go though that you couldn't even hear her singing.

Oh well, I guess they have to always have a few easy cuts in there.
