Getting from the airport to the hotels.

I know this question has been asked 100 times but for some reason I am so nervous about booking a flight and trying to find a way from the airport to our hotel. It will just be myself and my 12 year old niece. I was thinking uber but I am not sure.

Tony Hinds is the way to go from what I can gather, but if it's just the two of you it may be cheaper with Uber or Lyft. Tony is charging me $100 RT from HRH to MCO, but we are a party of 5, so it makes sense. Uber and Lyft appear to be in the $25 range one way and are incredibly easy to use. The one thing I do know is that the hotel-provided transfers are on the expensive side.

Following along, we’ve always taken the magic express to Disney, so I need to figure this out also.

Tony is fabulous and definitely the best way to go. He (or someone who works for him) meets you in baggage claim, helps you get your bags and you head right out to his van which parked very nearby. He will also do a grocery stop if you want. On all of our trips, the cost has been $100 round trip plus tip.

I HIGHLY discourage people from using Universal's SuperStar shuttle. First, it isn't run by Universal. It is a separate company. I had a pretty bad experience with them and, to add insult to injury, had to complain pretty vociferously to even get an apology. So just save yourself the trouble and go with Tony's company.

Thank you guys I started to find the 1000000 topics on this. Sorry for asking the same question over and over haha.

We're doing the same with 4 people. Going to MCO then Universal then to Disney. I understand the Tony Service is great, but for 1/2 the price with Uber, I think we're going to do Uber/Lyft especially since we're going to use Magical Express back.

Rental car. We always want mobility and the ability to head to the store or YardHouse etc. Parking fees are worth that mobility.

I prefer Lyft to Uber for several reasons, mostly having to do with how the company is managed.

I often do Disney first, taking their transportation to my Disney resort, then Lyft to Universal and again to the airport, but next week I am doing Uni first. I will pick up a rental car at the Universal Doubletree my last day there for the Disney portion of my trip (I am staying offsite there), then return it at the airport. Last trip I had a rental car at Universal and never used it, so I am not going to pay the extra rental car charges plus $85 parking fees this trip.

I have heard good things about Tony Hinds here, but am too cheap to pay that much for just me.

We have the shuttle booked with universal...after reading this thinking of switching to uber...

would be advisable to switch?

I used Tiffany Town car last year from the airport to hotel. Had been many years since I used them, but they were always courteous and reliable then, and proved to be so still today. The main reason for choosing Tiffany vs. Uber/Lyft was the opportunity to schedule a grocery stop. So satisfied that I will be using them again in 2 weeks.

Another strong supporter of Tiffany Towncar, we’ve used them a bunch of times, especially with a grocery stop. But on our next trip we won’t need the stop, so we’ll just use Uber or Lyft. For half the price, it’s just unbeatable.

The past couple of times we have gone, we planned to get a Lyft at the airport, but the wait time was longer than we wanted, so we just took a cab. I found it to be reasonably priced. (Lyft was saying it was going to be $35, and the cab was $40). On the way back to the airport, we always ask the valet services/door services people to get us a car. They have vehicles waiting that are quite nice, and I found the price on them to good as well (will have to look it up). The door services persons hands us all waters, the cars were clean and roomy, and they have a car seat for the kiddo. We find it to be a kinda classy way to close out the vacation.

When you said you are doing the shuttle, is it the Star shuttle?

If it is, you are better off with Uber

I used star shuttle once and that was enough

use other options to get to the hotel

We'll have 3 large suitcases plus a small carry on suitcase. Is UberX sufficient or do I need UberXL?

Uber is definitely the cheapest. Tony Hinds is the easiest - as mentioned, him or his driver will meet you in baggage claim and then its a two second walk to where his vehicle is parked. We were off airport grounds within minutes of picking up our bags. On other trips, we have also just gotten a taxi at the airport's taxi stand - always ones there waiting. We've been charged a flat $55 from the airport to a Universal hotel, and when metered, it was roughly $45. All of these are fine options, with minor pros and cons to each.

Roughly How much is Uber from the airport to Universal studios? Which one is better Uber or Lyft?

We had two normal full sized check-in bags and two carry ons, and our luggage just fit ina regular UberX. A third check-in suitcase would’ve been a no-go, unless someone could hold the suitcase on their lap. We had a Toyota Corolla for that trip, if that helps. I’ve also had a Suburban (a huge vehicle, would fit a ton more) come for a UberX pickup, so you just don’t know.

Another recommendation for Tony Hinds. We used him last May and it couldn't have been more convenient. (He's like the mayor at the Royal Pacific - all the valets seem to know him :D) Friendly, & reliable!
