Move to refillable toiletries

I think some of you should definitely look into Lush products. It's bar shampoo and bar conditioner, so there's never any leakage. They have a shop at the Orlando airport, so you can take a look at it the next time you're there.

Love those bar shampoo and conditioners.

Basin on the second floor of the GF also has bar shampoos. Don't recall if they have conditioner, though, but we never found it necessary as there are different varieties of shampoo bars so even with dry hair, there was one which worked for me. My DD loves them. I love their bath bombs!

Tip - put a piece of plastic wrap over the top of the shampoo bottle before you screw the top on. I still put the bottles in a ziplock but have not had anything leak.

I hope they keep the hand cream in small bottles. Those are nice to take in a purse or day bag while on excursions.

The Basin at DS has both shampoo and conditioner bars. I buy them for my sister every time we go to WDW.

I'm surprised this is so controversial. I've never cared for the single use bottles and often think the dispensers look spiffy. The hotel chains we use most often have already switched. It's very much a personal preference thing. I just didn't realize my preference was the minority.

You bet your sweet Bippy I do! :rotfl: Seriously, yes, I am a bit OCD about it. But if my shampoo is leaked out, I have a lot less product for my trip, even after smooshing the shampoo filled ziplock on my head! :goodvibes

I am pretty fastidious about packing and place anything that could leak in a ziplock bag. I mean, even my hairspray! I do have a plastic lined pocket in my toiletries bag and a leak of shampoo was pretty mess in that, but it was detachable and I could rinse it out. But I lost a lot of shampoo. :sad2:

You and I must be kindred spirits! :thumbsup2 You could go to any one of my suitcases right this minute, whether carry-on or pullman bag, and I have a variety of sizes of ziplock bags, at least a dozen in each bag, from snack size to sandwich size, quart, gallon, and yes! 3 gallon size!!. Lots more than that if it's a trip of more than 2-4 days! :D I find ziplocks to come in handy for SO many things!

When I started vacationing, I used to only use ziplocks...but about 10yrs ago, I started putting all my liquid bottles/spray bottles (anything that can really spill) into a sealable solid plastic rectangular container (about the size of a shoe box)...then I put that in a large size ziplock bags (much thicker than regular kitchen ones)...sometimes some things leak, then I just rinse everything and the plastic container...I have yet to have it leak onto the ziplock bag so I usually reuse that. This ensures that things are not being crushed or squeezed so less chance of something leaking and also keeps the mess inside a plastic sealable bin...There's less waste and it works!:-)

I do this with very watery liquids too, like my eye makeup remover. Because that is an item that seems to leak often in side it's ziplock.

I use bubble wrap a lot around items if I'm flying OR if I'm going on a cruise. Anyone ever seen those MOUNTAINS of suitcases piled backstage onboard like some cartoon picture?? :scared: :scared: :scared: :joker:

Honestly, this will work out better for me in some ways since those darn shampoo and conditioner bottles are so small. I easily need two bottles of conditioner per hair washing. Now I can use as much as I want. I will miss the little bottles of lotion, though :sad1:

I usually bring my own hair products, but on the few times I've forgotten and had to use hotel amenities, I've had the same experience. I need at least one entire handful of conditioner every time I wash my hair.

I've been doing something like that with my toothbrush/morning kit, but I also put the container inside a winter hat/neck warmer in case the plastic breaks. I don't want to wreck my cool container. :) Also, I have something similar for my makeup, so everything is together.

I guess we all find what works best for us, but it is hard to balance packing efficiently and convenience, especially if you're changing hotels every night (as in driving to Orlando, then staying in a few places before sailing).

I am one of those who likes bring home my last day's shampoo, lotion, etc. I have been known to gift unopened shampoo/lotion, etc with friends when I am trying to convince them to go on a Disney trip. Also, when I am using my leftovers it makes me want to travel to Disney or book another cruise. I consider the small toiletry bottles/soap bars as good advertising/marketing for Disney.

I agree...there is a balancing act. If we are staying somewhere before our main vacation...ie. a few days before the cruise, I would pack the specific clothes and toiletries that we would need for that short period in one suitcase. This isn't really a big deal with my family since we don't pack our own suitcases. We have always put a set of each person's clothes in each suitcase. I also use packing cubes, shoe bags, etc so that the items fit perfectly in hard sided suitcases to prevent a lot of movement.

On occasion, we may go into another suitcase for something we need (ie sweater if it was cooler than the weather forecast), but generally we don't touch our other suitcases during the pre stay. I don't want to get into specifics, but I do pack things that people don't normally pack so I need to be much more organized....as I'm sure a lot of people in this forum would understand.

I can say as a business owner, we’re jumping on the no straw bandwagon solely as a cost saving saving measure. I’m sure Disney is thrilled to be able to make this change and put it off on saving the environment. That way people can’t complain that they can’t take home gobs of tubes H2O products.
