Move to refillable toiletries

Disney is a business, not a person. As a business, Disney can have no opinion on any topic, including the importance of being environmentally friendly. The individuals who are responsible for making these decisions at Disney absolutely must consider the business impact of their choices, and no doubt they would not make the environmentally friendly choice unless they also felt it was good for the business, or at worst neutral. So sure, if they can do something that's positive for the environment, reflects well on the brand, AND saves money in the process, that's pretty obviously a win-win. That said, individual employees at Disney almost certainly have varying personal opinions on the environmental importance and value of these measures, just like the individual contributers to this thread. To say that "they're only doing it to save money" seems nonsensical to me. They are doing it because it is good business, but that doesn't imply that nobody in a position of influence at Disney really gives a fig about the environment.

I can say as a business owner, we’re jumping on the no straw bandwagon solely as a cost saving saving measure. I’m sure Disney is thrilled to be able to make this change and put it off on saving the environment. That way people can’t complain that they can’t take home gobs of tubes H2O products.

Again, I don't think anyone here can claim to know how much the individuals at Disney personally do or do not care about the environment. But just because one business owner is choosing to make an environmentally sound choice strictly for the cost savings, it does not logically follow that the same must be true of ALL business owners.

Besides which, IIUC, Disney is not getting rid of straws. They are switching to paper straws. I haven't seen anyone argue that using paper straws is really just a cost saving measure, but perhaps I just missed that thread.

Sorry if it's already been posted...but has DCL officially announced the change?

For those who just came back from a recent cruise --- did they already implement the dispensers?

My last cruise was in December and the individual bottles were still available.

I just read through the whole thread. There has been no announcement discussed besides the relatively general statement in the first post. And no mention of a change having been actually implemented on the ships.

Implementation of this would not happen randomly - it would likely have to wait until the next refurbishment / dry dock.

WDW rooms get these new dispensers as they get refurbished.

Perfectly put IMO.

This is very true, but as a former Operations Manager for the Walt Disney Corporation, their bottom line is money and image. I’m not saying it’s a bad move, but if it’s a way to save money and promote a positive image at the same time, it’s a huge win and I say bravo. I don’t fault them at all, I applaud them.

Thank you for posting. We just came back from a Norway/Iceland cruise on the Magic and there were no refillable bottles and no mention of it. Everything seems to be as usual and our stateroom host provided replacements when needed...although we had to ask for conditioner several times because my daughter's hair is so long, she uses most of the bottle. Also, my family showers 3 times on our cruises, so we do use up quite a bit.

On the last day, our stateroom host left an extra set. I suppose it's a way for guests to take a set home. I do like that he did that. I think one set is sufficient for guests to "continue their vacation" when they get home. I just wished guests wouldn't take so much home so that Disney feels the need to cut down. I agree with the conservation effort, but I think the refillable option is due to guest taking several sets home.
