3-D effects... They don't work right for me. Anyone else?

So, it's not the end of the world or anything but I've noticed that on things like Muppets, Mickey's Philharmagic, and even FOP, using the 3D glasses gives me a headache and they don't give the effect I imagine they are supposed to give. For FOP I try to keep them on but I take them off for the others.

I'm not sure if it's because I need reading glasses or if the glasses are too big from my head or what my problem is.

Anyone else have problems with 3D rides or any suggestions as to how to make it better?

No suggestions here, just sympathy. 3D gives me migraines. The only 3D attraction I can do is Toy Story Mania. I don’t know why that one doesn’t affect me when the others do, maybe the hand-eye coordination factor? However, I don’t really get 3D effects from it. The images look like normal pictures but I don’t get that “jump out at you” affect like I’m supposed to. I do have a history of migraines and an astygmatism, don’t know if that has anything to do with it.

Every time they announce a new attraction that turns out to be 3D I’m so disappointed that I won’t be able to experience it. I miss Star Tours. :(

I don't see 3-D like most others do because I have one eye that is legally blind (highly near-sided). I don't get headaches but I see images just as if it was a regular flat screen. I can tell from others' reactions around me that something is happening in 3-D. Sometimes I do have to close the "bad" eye because I see double. I still enjoy all of the 3-D attractions!

You could try using "2D glasses", they are supposed to remove the 3D effect and make it all look flat. I've never tried them, so I'm not sure if they actually work.

Same here for me. Still enjoy the 3D rides but I don’t get the feel or sensation of items coming at me. For TSM I have to make sure I’m shooting at the correct target since I do see two targets overlapping.

I used to see stereoscopic 3D but as I aged the ability went away. I distinctly remember as a child reaching out for Ariel’s gems in philharmagic, but now it’s a flat blurry mess. I can however see 3D that goes “into” the screen rather than pops out, so Flight of Passage works good enough for me.

I asked my eye doctor once and he ran some tests. His conclusion was pretty much... you have a problem, live with it...

Edit: I should note that VR actually also works pretty good for me, since the 3D effect is mostly “into” the screen rather than popping out.

It doesn't have anything to do with reading glasses, it's probably simply that your stereo vision (how your brain puts together the images from each eye) isn't working as it should. Thats pretty common and it doesn't mean there's anything wrong with you. In optometry school I learned my stereo vision is pretty much non-existent, which explains a lot of things in my life. :) in Mickey's Philharmagic I usually have to keep one eye closed!

I don't know if its the glasses of depends on where I sit in the theater but sometimes the 3D images appear off. And if I close one eye and keep the other open that helps. It's hard to explain.

in the olden days the 3D glasses/effects didn't work for me. But all of the WDW 3D attractions work fine for me!!! Love me some Philharmagic!!!

It doesn't work quite right for me, either. I can see the 3-d but it appears somewhat blurry at times, and takes a lot of "effort". I can't really explain the effort part, but it is like I have to really concentrate on seeing, which is weird. I also tend to get much more motion sick on 3D rides than on regular rides, even with the same intensity. I have always chalked that up to the fact that the image and the motion probably don't line up 100%. I have asked at the eye doctor about it, and they did some tests and everything came back within normal limits. His best guess was that it was a very small difference that was causing the problems.

I have no problems with the current technology and glasses, but the older ones caused headaches. The old red/blue lenses were the worst.

Yeah, I can't see 3D at all. I have permanent double vision and blind spots. it bums me out that so many of the newer attractions rely so much on 3D projections. The silver lining is, it seems like the newer the 3D is, the less likely it is to give me vertigo or headaches.

Disney is the only 3D that works for me. I don’t have 3D in my normal life and most other 3D movies don’t work for me. The technology Disney uses works for me (some shows better than others)

It never works for me either. I can only really use one eye at a time so I don’t have good depth perception. 3-d never works.

In my experience it’s the glasses. They get used and abused and it seems to me that even a small imperfection on the lense can have an effect on the image. The last time I saw Philharmagic my right lense had a couple of scratches, causing the 3D image to blur. I closed my right eye for most of the show and the image was crystal clear. No 3D, but at least I could see.

Didn’t read responses yet so forgive if this is a repeat. But yes. I can’t see 3-D because I have a lazy eye. The effect requires both eyes to work together and since I’m really only focusing out of one eye at a time, I can’t see it. When I was little I had vision therapy where they tried to correct it but I hated it and never did them (you can’t see my lazy eye because the eyes alternate quickly and most don’t see it)

Are you old enough to remember the 3D posters that were a fad in the 90s? They were a very busy design but if you stared at them and concentrated a 3D image would pop out. That's what your post reminds me of.

I find most 3D rides to be a little blurry. FOP is one of the blurrier ones for me. I assumed most people did but maybe it's just me.

Also I don't get motion sick on anything. I have ridden Star Tours back to back 3 times more than once. But I can't ride Minions at Universal more than once. It seems to be off just the tiniest bit and apparently just in the right way to get to me. It's odd.

As an FYI - I struggle bringing the 3D things in focus, too. I have found that if I sit in the BACK of the theater - and really try to get pretty central - that helps. I also take a good look at the glasses I pick up and make sure they don't have any obvious issues. I've also noticed that now that I have done therapy for my vertigo - it's been easier.

But you can still add me to the club that dislikes the explosion of 3D experiences in rides/simulations, movies, etc. 3D movies still just make me sick.
