Disney's POP CENTURY RESORT Information & Questions

Are there times of year when bugs in the rooms are more common. I have stayed at POP in May and in October, 1st floor both times, and no bugs. Our next stay in this coming November and now I am worried.

The weather tends to drive them in more than a particular time of year. We have had a very wet summer, and that can drive them in. However the only bug I got in my room last week was a solo love bug (it’s that time of year for the lovebugs to appear). I was on the third floor. It is important to let the hotel know when you have bug issues in the room so they can take appropriate action. Everyone in Florida has extermination of some sort on a regular basis, and Disney is no exception.

November is not a bad month bug wise.

I have searched the boards and can't find where this has ever been asked before, but would it be possible to raise the head of the beds at POP? I have recently been plagued with sudden onset SEVERE heartburn with throat burn, and must have the head of my bed raised to help my symptoms. I am also sleeping on a wedge pillow, but require both for any relief. I even considered bringing bed risers and using them on the bottom end of the Murphy Bed and sleep with my head toward the foot end of the bed. I have yet to stay in the refurb rooms, so I'm not sure this is possible. Anyone have any thoughts/suggestions?

Good morning PoP people! Just back last night from a 9 night PoP stay and all was great! Of course I check out the day before the Halloween mugs come out but oh well - lol! This trip was me and my two sons (ages 16 and 20).

We were in Building 10 - so close to the food court it was great! Room 0409 - it has a tub btw. We didn't have a preferred room booked but it felt like preferred - would have been hard to be much closer. Room was in great shape - I didn't notice our floors getting dirty or being dirty. We generally were out/up very late and not out of the door in the morning until 11-noon. I called every day when we left to say we were leaving and could housekeeping come at their convenience. Room was always cleaned by 2-3pm and we never had the "security check" person or housekeeping knock and wake us up. Walls are a bit thin - but nothing unexpected from a value resort. I saw a few school groups - they seemed like high school aged boys. No issues at all - unless they all want in the line for Mickey waffles the same morning you do - lol! ;)

I did see a couple complaining at the front desk that their elevator was broken (the night before?) and one had a scooter - they had trouble accessing their 4th floor room. I couldn't hear the whole thing but it sounded like they either couldn't get up to their room or down from it (walking the stairs). The front desk woman was fairly stern with them and said next time they needed to call 911 and the emergency services would come and help them. I'm thinking ...what? lol I don't know about everyone but if you call 911 (and we did need an ambulance once while in Orlando on vacation) there's a rather hefty charge for that. Insurance paid but I don't think they'd pay if I just couldn't get down the stairs cause my elevator is broken. Not sure what was up with that? They didn't discuss moving the room so I guess the elevator got fixed or they were leaving.

Staff was great - food court was great - I'd definitely stay here again.

I can't remember if the foot end of the bed has a lip or something to stop your risers from sliding out from under the mattress but - we were looking for something we lost and we were able to lift up the entire mattress on the murphy bed - and it was a solid wooden base underneath.

Thanks for the info. Hopefully someone is there now and can check it out for me. I may have to consider putting a lift under the mattress, but geez, I'd hate to haul something like that into the room... :D Security might get called. :daisy:

Seems like you could put the bed risers under the head of the bed rather than the foot - since the whole bed lifts up fairly easily (especially if you have 2 people doing it). Even if there is a "lip" around the edge of the bed I can bet the riser might pop out at night while you're sleeping if you put it at the foot. :scared: If you put it at the headboard then it can't go anywhere.

Of course you may have to move it for housekeeping (?) and definitely if you wanted to close the murphy bed.
