Hurricane watch 2018

We arrive the 22nd, I need all this issac talk to stop lol

We leave the 21st. I need Isaac to just CHILL ALREADY so I don't have to spend the week while we're there fretting over him and trying to decide if we should try to leave early to get home.

Spent way too much time today watching Florence shred a US flag off the coast of the North Carolina.

** Volume Warning!! ***
I hated to see them leave that flag out just to be destroyed for shock value.

I have been obsessed with coverage of the storm, even though it’s not coming here. I will be glad for everyone’s sake when it’s over.

I like seeing that banner yet wave come what may.

If it was an all weather flag, then leaving it out complies with flag code, but it just felt like it wasn’t necessary to destroy it. They could have shown the same thing in another way. Even when we fly all weather flags, we bring them in for storms like this. It just feels disrespectful to us to knowingly allow the flag to be ripped to shreds, YMMV.

We made it to Orland! Got here about 9 am after driving since 5 pm yesterday. We hit zero traffic on 95 at all and had no issues finding gas either which was a relief. Our biggest issue was lack of sleep so we kept pulling to rest stops to try to doze for a bit, but then my toddler would wake up.

Huge shout out to the HAMPTON Inn nearest universal. I reserved online around 1:30 am and wrote in the notes that we were traveling early due to Florence and asking for an early check in. When we arrived at 930 am the room was ready!

My parents evacuated their house near Wilmington, with I’m sure great worry. They intended to ride it out in Raleigh at first before heading here Monday. But since it’s going to linger so much in NC they decided to head this way instead. I know they were hoping to be able to check on the house before they left for Florida, but even if they stayed in Raleigh that likely wouldn’t have happened. They said they were exhausted from worrying and traveling and figured if they needed to wait it out in a hotel, it might as well be with us. So they should be here later tonight. My brother also switched his DCA flight from tomorrow am to late tonight, so the whole gang should be here tomorrow

I have been constantly worried about the weather for my upcoming trip like crazy!! I don’t mind a little rain but a hurricane just sounds so scary to me! I’ll be there for the first time in years the first week of October. So I’ll be watching this like crazy! Fingers and toes crossed that Florida stays safe and those being hit by these storms stay safe.

There's no hurricane threatening FL at all! Isaac was no where near, and Florence is at our NC southern border as I type. Our southern coastal cities are taking a beating. We are having gusty winds in Raleigh, but not forecast to be over 50mph.

Anyhow, just sayin'-----------All the talk for those Disney bound was just wondering about traveling through this area affected (air & road), not 'in' FL . Enjoy your trip!!

Thank you so much!

Well, we survived Florence! I'm supposed to be at Disney right now, but instead I'm sitting in my living room. I've spent the past three days and nights sheltering at our local health care system where I'm VP of communications. I'm completely exhausted but glad to be home.

On the good news front, our home (Pawleys Island, SC) was spared much of Flo's wrath. We're getting a ton of rain, but the winds never got above 50 mph sustained here. And we're still going to Disney! We're flying out Monday, so we're losing a couple of days of our vacation. But it's a miracle that we're able to go at all. That didn't even seem like a possibility a couple of days ago.

The next 2 weeks for FL and people going to Disney World look to be just fine. No problems at all.

We have to be on guard here in FL the first 2-3 weeks of October. NOT saying there will be any storms, but some of the long range models are predicting there might be a slight uptick in activity in the Gulf Of Mexico during the first 2 weeks of October.

The reason we need to be on alert is because, normally the month of October is when FL gets hit the most. Storms form in the Caribbean or Gulf and could be pushed across the state of FL.

By the end of Sept we should have a good handle on what will be coming (if any) the first 2 weeks of October.

Well I am completely worried now. I am there Oct 8th to Oct 20th. Hope the models are wrong.

Dont be worried at all. Let me correct my previous post, the long range models do NOT show any storms at all. What they are showing is that once October starts the atmosphere the Caribbean will become more conducive
for storms to form. DOES NOT mean they will though.

We will be in a quiet period for the next 2 weeks because the atmosphere at this point does not support any storms forming.

When will we know if something will or will not develop for the first week of October?

By the beginning of next week we should start to get a better handle on what (if anything) will be around the first week of October.

Remember, just because the models are saying the atmosphere will be more conducive for storms that does NOT mean, one will form, and if one does form we dont know where it will go or how strong it will be.

So everything is up in the air for the next 3 weeks or so.

Follow this guy one twitter. He is one of the best long range meteorologist around.
