Hello, everyone, we are planning a trip to Japan, including Tokyo Disneyland. We are big Disney fans. We have been to Disney World FL or Disneyland CA every year since my son was born. My son is 10 years old and he always says he wants to grow up to be like Walt Disney and build something to make people happy. Unfortunately all our lives changed a lot this yr. My son was diagnosed with a DIPG brain tumor which is inoperable. We are choosing to spend whatever time we have left as a family making as many memories as possible. We asked my son if he could go any place in the world where would he want to go and he picked Tokyo. So we're grateful to say that Make A Wish is sending us to Tokyo. We also arranged to extend the trip on our own for a few more days. We leave in a little over 1 month, I have been so overwhelmed, I didn't plan everything as usual. Thankfully most of it is already done for us with my son's wishes. However I want to make sure we don't miss out on anything.

What are the best things in Tokyo Disneyland we should not miss on the trip?

My son also wants to do things during our extension like Pokemon Cafe, and he is asking if we can go to a baseball game at the Tokyo Dome but I think it's too late to find tickets, is it? It's a little tricky, sometimes the things he asks about have all Japanese websites.....

I haven't been to Tokyo yet, but I've been researching. TDR Explorer and Disney Tourist Blog are GREAT resources for information about Tokyo Disney and beyond (I hope it's okay that I noted those sites here - I will admit I don't know the rules on that). I'm so sorry to hear about your situation, and I hope your trip gives you many happy memories for years to come.

We are going next May and are also wanting to go watch a baseball game. Here is the link I have been using for the games at the Tokyo Dome: http://www.giants.jp/en/

The Pokemon Cafe require advance reservations and once I get home I can look up the link. The menu change seasonally and the food looks amazing. Is he a Kingdom Hearts fan? Square-Enix (who make the game) owns a cafe/store near their HQ in Shinjuku and the food is also quite unique.

Keep an eye out for the "temporary facility closure" calendar on the Tokyo Disney website. That will tell you what will be closed for refurbishment during your trip.

For baseball tickets, you can also try day of ticket sales at the Tokyo Dome and also try some of the various ticket resellers in town.

Hi @Mom2JNY - so sorry to hear about your situation. I hope this will be a wonderful & memorable trip for your family.

You got some good advice here about how to score baseball tickets.

How many people are in your party? What are your dates?

I can help you with the Japanese websites.

I am so sorry to hear about your son's condition. I hope this trip is a source of joy to all of you as he battles this terrible disease.

In addition to the Disney-specific resources suggested above, I've found Travel Caffeine (run by the same couple that writes the Disney Tourist Blog, but with more general Japan info) and Japan-Guide to be helpful English-language guides. They might be a good source of info and ideas for your extra days in Tokyo.

I think the problem you might run into with baseball is that their season is similar to our MLB, at least at the professional level. October is playoffs, so tickets might be hard to get and there might not be games scheduled on dates that work for you. I'm not sure if there are other leagues that run longer or not. The Tokyo Dome has an English-language calendar site here if you want to keep tabs on it: https://www.tokyo-dome.co.jp/en/tourists/dome/events.html

Here is the website for reservations at the Pokemon Cafe: https://reserve.pokemon-cafe.jp/ . The current menu is Halloween themed and will stay as such until October 31st. Soranews24, my favorite news website from Japan, has pictures here: https://soranews24.com/2018/09/08/t...ion-with-brand-new-halloween-food-and-drinks/.

I just checked and no playoff schedule has been released so far for the Yomiuri Giants. Attending a sport event in Japan is quite unique as the fans have special chants, rally cry, etc. I attended wrestling there a few times and it was quite surreal hearing 12000 fans go perfectly silent when a certain wrestler music started. At one point of the song, everyone started clapping... and when the song reached the climax, everyone yelled "Kaze di Nare!" (Be like the Wind)

At Tokyo Disneyland, have lunch or dinner at the Queen of Hearts Banquet Hall. It is a buffeteria located at the back of the park in Fantasyland and the theming and food is wonderful. Pooh's Hunny Hunt, Monsters Inc. Ride and Go Seek! and Its a Small World are unique to there. When is your trip? Big Thunder Mountain will be closed for refurbishment from October 23rd 2018 to November 11th 2018.

At Tokyo DisneySea, explore every areas of the park and Tower of Terror, Journey to the Center of the Earth, Sindbad Storybook Voyage and Indiana Jones Adventure are all among the world's greatest attractions. For food, there is a huge selection and snacks are also incredible. My favorite snack is the Spiced Smoked Chicken Leg served at the Lost River Delta Cookhouse next to Raging Spirits.

Thank u so much everyone! So many good ideas and helpful tips. I appreciate all who replied.

He does like Kingdom hearts, do you need reservations there as with Pokémon Cafe?

4 people, my son, myself and my husband, my mother. Dates are October 18-28.

They are not Disney websites, can I post here? Sorry I cannot find the rules about off topic.

You can. There are a few that get filtered out based on travel agent affiliation or sales/referral content, but that's only a small number of mostly Orlando-parks related sites or blatant sales pitches. Otherwise, you're welcome to share links. :)

You have two options for Kingdom Hearts: the Square Enix Cafe in Akihabara and Artnia in Shinjuku.

Square Enix Cafe: http://www.jp.square-enix.com/cafe/tokyo/pc/index.php Interestingly, the menu until October 19th 2018 is Kingdom Hearts themed while at Artnia, the themed menu goes until October 31st. It is located next to the train station in Akihabara on the bottom floor of the Yodobashi Akiba store. Reservations are required and dining is offered in 90 minute blocks throughout the day.

Artnia: http://www.jp.square-enix.com/artnia/ARTNIAcollaboration/ . It is reached using the Higashi-Shinjuku station, exit A3. Walk out and you'll be below ground in a shopping area. Go up and around the office building until you reach a small white dome, that's Artnia. http://www.jp.square-enix.com/artnia/ No reservations are required for dining and alcohol is served after 17:00. One word of advice: it is near the Kabukicho area of Shinjuku and I don't recommend walking through that area at night with children as its a bar and nightclub district. After going to Artnia, I suggest heading back to the station and taking the train to another area.
