Mickey's Halloween Party and Halloween Time Superthread 2018!!

Thanks Rabbit-I will be solo for the party on the 23rd-so I can hunker down for a while if I really want to get those shots.
If you see a Winnie Sanderson all by their self that will be me. I may also see if I can get front of the castle for the fireworks.

Anyone know if Disney is selling a gingerbread house this year that’s a recreation from the haunted mansion? Last year they were selling one in the French Market for you to take home. I also walked in Disneyana and did not see it either but it was busy in there so I could not ask the staff. My son wanted to see it so we could get some pictures and try to make one at home (a very poor one as my decorating skills are not that good). Thanks!

I had forgotten about that, but I didn't see it featured anywhere in the parks this year. I have a feeling that it was one of those one year only type items, especially since this year's HMH gingerbread house is different.

At nearly $300 I suspect they did not sell many of them. I’ll check with disneyana when we take the kids back for naps in a few hours and will post what I can find out. Thanks

There hasn't been a lot of talk about it, but don't forget the confectionery show piece over in the Grand Californian Hotel lobby. There are supposed to be 13 Hidden Mickeys on it (I couldn't find all of them!). Photos of the ones I could find are in my trip report.

I checked with one of the CMs at Disneyana and they said so far they are not planning to do a gingerbread house this year. It was a last minute request though last year she said so things may change. Might have to try and make last years one. Got a few pictures from different angles. If anyone hears anything please post. Thanks

...Thanks for the advice on the makeup remover! Any brand of cold cream you’d recommend? Any brand of wipes that you’d recommend? I have to check with the hotel but hopefully the bus runs on MHP nights so I was thinking I could bring some makeup remover wipes to try and get a head start on the kids faces on the bus back to the hotel.
In case of an emergency where you can't get back to the hotel, you might try asking for help/samples at Sephora in DTD. Sometimes, I've been able to get a sample or two (or ask for a suggestion -- usually quite good because the CMs there are super friendly and helpful -- which I end up buying anyway!) -- and the CMs will help you with whatever costume makeup repair needs to be done.

Hi. I attended the Tuesday evening party...I thought I would give my one quick tip. Toontown is open for early Trick or Treating from 5pm to 7pm. Sounds like a good idea...NOT! Everyone else thinks this is a good idea too and it's crazy, CRAZY crowded. I would suggest avoiding this area and enjoying the rest of the park as it's starting to clear out a little. Or maybe grab some dinner. Once the party started, most rides were walk on or very little wait. But the lines to visit the characters were all long, except the Haunted Mansion ones at the French Market. And finally, the first parade was PACKED! About 15 minutes before the parade, they were turning people away on Main Street. I suggest skipping the first parade, but position yourself to merge in with the crowd after the parade so you can get a good spot in front of the castle...and being toward the right of the castle will give you a better view of the screen (avoid being left of the castle), if you can't get front and center. There was lots of room for the second parade. We got front front row near Small World about 15 minutes before the parade started.

Have fun everyone!

Glad you had fun! One week until my party (10/12)! From reading the reviews on here, and other blogs and groups, I think I'm for sure going to skip the Toontown party. So many people have mentioned the huge crowds for it. I think we will just get dinner instead, and maybe try and do a ride or two over at DCA before the party begins.

Thanks for the tip! We are attending the October 12th party, and I was thinking of heading to Toontown first, but now I think we'll skip the early trick or treating there!

If you are only going to TT for the candy, then it would be better to skip those crowds for dinner or rides. There will be the exact same candy at other treat trails (including the eastern corridor on MS, behind the shops, when you first enter the party at 7).

I just went through some of the thread but may have missed it. Are there any special Halloween decorations at the GCH this year?

Thanks so much @theluckyrabbit ! I completely forgot about the Sephora!

Any consensus from people who went last year about crowds this year? Is it a lot more crowded? Is the TT pre-party not as well organized? Last year we waited in the line before it opened and it worked out well. Just wondering if it’s that different this year.

Yes, they have a confectionery display in the lobby.

I went to the first two parties of the year and the crowds felt about the same as in previous years. The first parade and fireworks tend to be pretty busy, but the second parade was not bad. There were some pockets of crowds (mostly in the normal constriction points around the park), but most things seemed navigable. The treat trail lines were long(ish), but moved quickly and didn't seem any longer than in past years. I didn't do any attractions, but the lines didn't seem to bad (except at HMH and SMGG).

In terms of Toontown, that also seemed about as busy as in previous years. I didn't get there until after it had already opened and the lines for everything looked really long. I mostly just took a quick look around to see what was going on, but didn't want to wait in those lines for the candy or characters.

Can someone confirm which characters meet at the TT pre-party and their costumes? I'm trying to determine if I need to drag my group over or not. Everyone really wanted to do the Blue Bayou dining package so I feel like making it over to TT might be a bit difficult. I think our priority will be Hades since we're in Hercules inspired costumes so any suggestions on making sure that we manage that would be much appreciated. This is our first time attending Mickey's Halloween Party, though we've done Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party a number of times in the past.

Hades isn't (usually) at the Toontown Pre-Party, but I did see him in Villains Square (Town Square) during the party.

When I wandered through TT during the first pre-party, I saw pretty much the same characters from last year (Mickey as Zorro, Minnie in a Candy Corn dress, Donald as a Wizard, Daisy as a Witch, and Goofy - I'm guessing Pluto was also probably there, along with Chip and Dale).

Are the chipmunk in skeleton costumes in the Toontown pre-party? I saw pictures like this and they were so cute I have to take a pic like this!

We went to the party last night Friday October 5th. This is my sixth year attending but our FiRST on a Friday night. I think the Friday night parties are just a little more crowded. The walkways felt more congested and the lines for rides were a tiny, tiny bit longer. It really would not deter me from going to a Friday night party again though. For example, we walked on Space Mountain multiple times last year during a Tuesday night party but this year one of our rides was walk on and the other was about 15 minutes. Honestly though, it’s more about timing than what day do the week....the lines ebb and flow. And the only ride that I saw that truly had a LINE was Haunted Mansion. Everything else was ten minutes or less with most being complete walk on. So that’s my Friday versus other day of the week opinion.
As for the party, again totally immersive, spectacular, and worth the money. We entered DCA at 5 with no lines to enter using our party ticket. Nothing was available for Max Pass while we were there. The next available MP was around 8;30 for GRR so we headed to Goofys sky school which showed a 35 minute wait. We got distracted at Redwood creek challenge and hung out there for about an hour and by then Goofys was 55minutes so we headed to Disneyland. Both parks were really crowded at this point and it’s always so discouraging to see the masses of people everywhere even though I know it will clear out. I know i said this last year, but I’m not going to come early anymore, it just tires us out! We took the train to toon town and the character lines and treat trails were insane, except for the one right outside TT by the Train station. But the lines for the little coaster and Roger rabbit were walk on so we did those two and the Treat trail twice. We took the train again to the front of the park and by then it was 7 and the party had started! The music, projections, decorations and just the energy through Main Street is so fun!! People were still leaving the park so it was still a little crowded but definitely starting to thin. We hit ride after ride and jumped in any treat trail that wasn’t clogged up, our favorite being the one in the Golden Horseshoe. Took pictures by the Halloween tree and had a quick snack at Bengal BBQ. We crossed the park and the first parade was over and Main Street was jammed for the fireworks, as we were walking through we heard the announcement that he fireworks were delayed, I think they were eventually canceled as we never heard them. My daughter was super tired after our last two rides on Space so we headed out of the park around 10:30. We could have done So much more, i was disappointed but she was so tired! as we walked out buzz and star tours were walk on. The crowds for the second parade were really light. We walked up right and sat down on the curb and watched the parade, which was the same as last year, still great! I agree with others, weird to end the parade with the little vampire girl.we beat the crowds after the parade and jumped on the tram....both sides were open and there was long lines on the left and none on the right as I don’t think people realized the other side was open.
Overall, similar to last year in terms of crowds, waits and candy. We did get way way less candy this year as the treat lines were longer and we were so tired! Cadaver dans were awesome again, decorations were great and the cast members were friendly and engaging. There was only a few costumes that turned my head, I feel like the first years we went people really went all out! We couldn’t find the scarecrow this year either, he was fabulous last year and the year before!
It’s a great event, I wish I had bought tickets to another party, i really missed so much. So much fun! Let me know if you have any questions!
