Official Disney Cake Chatter - Part V!

I got hold of AKL private dining. Initially she offered me a celebration cake, but when I asked about the zebra cake, she offered a zebra dome cake. She said it is a mock up of a zebra dome, and is domed not just a regular cake. Quoted me $45 plus tax ect. I went ahead and ordered it. Anyone had this before and/or have a photo?

@eeyoreandtink The Zebra Dome cake looks like this:

It's been a really long time since I've ordered a custom cake. Back then I emailed back and forth with the head chef at the contemporary for a couple weeks and it was *poof* a gorgeous cake, delivered to the table.
Now we are going to be at WDW for my actual 40th birthday and I want a super awesome cake, lol! It's also going to be my MIL's actual birthday as well, a couple days after mine.
I've left a message on the custom cake line to get a call back. Meanwhile, I have a few questions.
- Can I blue sky anything I want, pictures for examples, or do I have to go with whatever the designer offers me?
- Basically, what parameters do I need to know about before I go all wild, coming up with ideas?
- Will they deliver a custom cake to California Grill? Monsieur Paul?
My plan is to have MY bday at Cali Grill, and my MIL at M. Paul. I feel like I would be rude if I had a cake for both of us on MY birthday, and nothing on her birthday. I was thinking of doing the big cake on my bday (since it's the BIG 40, but not a milestone for her), and a smaller cake on her bday. Is that rude? I'm trying to not be rude!

Thank you guys so much!

We got our cake tonight at Chef Mickey’s and love it but aren’t ready to eat it. Does it need to be refrigerated? Vanilla cake with chocolate buttercream. Also, roughly how long do the cakes keep for?

I finalized my order today! I sent Elizabeth an email saying I was ready to confirm my email and she called back within 10 minutes. It took about 2 minutes on the phone as she confirmed the order details, took my credit card number, and asked when I wanted it delivered.

She did say even with online checkin, she can’t guarantee the room being available early enough to have the cake in it when we arrive. So I set a 3:30pm delivery time (which was the earliest I could get).

Thank you for your feedback, ladies! I'm not savvy enough to know how to quote you both but hopefully you'll see this! I definitely do not just want printed screens so that's helpful. I got bored today and played around with a sketch and came up with this...I have the little plastic toppers so I sketched those in, too. Thoughts?Cake sketch.jpg

Yes. They don't really have anything standard, so it always helps to have ideas of your own.

- Basically, what parameters do I need to know about before I go all wild, coming up with ideas?

The more hand-work you want, the higher the price will be. So if you want quilted fondant with hidden Mickeys in every join or a bunch of decor pieces created by hand from fondant or modeling chocolate, the price will be higher than if you just want ombre buttercream, for example.

- Will they deliver a custom cake to California Grill? Monsieur Paul?

The Contemporary's pastry team only serves the Contemporary, Fort Wilderness and Wilderness Lodge. Monsieur Paul is owned by an outside vendor that uses a partner bakery to produce standard, supermarket-style cakes only.

If you don't want to just give her a standard Monsieur Paul cake, you could have the Disney resort where you are staying make her a cake to be delivered to her room on her birthday. Or have a mini-cake delivered to her on your birthday at California Grill.

If it's just buttercream, not a mousse filling, you don't have to refrigerate it. And how long cakes keep depends on how much you like the taste of stale cake! :teeth:

View attachment 355896 Just found a pic of the amazing cake I had for my daughter last Christmas. The yacht club steakhouse.

I also just ordered a cake for my hubby for the end of October also at the Yacht Club.

Sorry I can’t remember the cost. Probably close to $100

That is amazing! If you turn up any more shots of it, I'd love to see them!

Do you get AP or DVC discount if the cake is delivered to the restaurant and added to your bill?

If it's added to your bill, the discount applies to the whole bill, so yes.

I think the sketch is FABULOUS! It communicates everything really clearly!

One way you might be able to save money is if they use their white chocolate mold for the monorail and have it rest on the layer below instead of being fondant applied to the sides. Also, having them create the balloons individually out of fondant or modeling chocolate is going to be very expensive. That might be a place to have them do screen prints on white chocolate, if they can cut out around the shapes of the balloons. Another idea that might be cool is if the fondant stripes continued at the bottom and radiated out like notched tails (like you do when you tie a ribbon around a gift) on the cake plate, kind of the way the ribbons in the pavilion were swagged at the ceiling.

I like it!

We ordered a Coco cake w/ Glorimar at the Grand Floridian. I am really excited and can't wait! It will be delivered to Narcoossee's.

@lurkyloo We got the cake Thursday evening and move offsite tomorrow so I’m thinking we will eat it Saturday. Should still be ok then? Not stale yet?

I've been coordinating an early December trip for a group of five of us and since we're opting for Whispering Canyon Cafe for our arrival night dinner, I'm using that as a reason (excuse, really :lmao:) to order us a "Welcome to Disney" cake.

In the past, I've just given a general theme (the most recent one was a Belle-themed cake) and asked the decorators to do their thing on the cake itself. They've always turned out gorgeous, but I'm a little worried that "welcome to Disney" isn't really a helpful guideline for the decorators. Because there's five of us (including a Disney newbie!) I don't want to do anything too specific, like favorite characters, rides, etc.

Does anyone have fun ideas for a general, "yay we're all in Disney together" cake decoration?

[GALLERY=][/GALLERY]Ordered a cake from Pat at the GF to have delivered to the Grand 1 yacht a couple of weeks ago to celebrate my wedding. Had 15 people and this cake was more than enough, had about half left! We did a chocolate cake with cookies and cream filling and it was delicious. All I had told Pat was one tier with white fondant and peach and white flowers and top, with a banner reading Happily Ever After in gold. Also told her to add a small subtle Donald Duck photo on the back of the cake (he is my favorite!) and think the way she did was great. Cost about $150!
