Paradise Pier Hotel

Having never been to DL, but many times to WDW..... how long is the walk from PPH to the park entrance?
Many people have said it's long. But in comparison..... Like is it as long as the walk from Boardwalk at WDW to the entrance of Epcot? Or HS? Or longer?
Is it a covered walkway (in case of rain or extreme heat?)
Just trying to get a good idea of when to leave the room to get to in for extra magic hour.

Distance is not as close as Boardwalk to the Int’l Gateway, but not as long as the walk to DHS. It’s somewhere inbetween. Maybe give yourself at least 15 minutes if walking a normal pace (note that this would include getting through security when entering Downtown Disney). There’s no covered walkways enroute from PPH to the esplanade, but rain and extreme heat is very uncommon here in So Cal so usually you wouldn’t need to worry about the elements.

Only comparison I have is from the Contemporary to MK. To me, it was closer than that walk. My daughter walks it (PPH to esplanade) in about 12 mins. And she is a slower walker. (Give or take a couple mins for bag check.)

Thank you for providing that comparison. We stayed at Bay Lake Towers back in May and thought the walk to MK was relatively short. My wife and I are trying to plan a trip with our 5-year old son to Disneyland in the spring and are considering staying on property for the first time. We usually stay at the Sheraton Park Anaheim which is a great hotel. Even though it's significantly cheaper than Paradise Pier, we don't get the extra magic hour benefits.

The only problem with staying off-property is that we wake up around 3-4 am local time and can't go back to sleep (we're from the East Coast). Being able to get into the parks an hour early every morning would be really nice for us. Otherwise we always end up walking around waiting for stuff to open in DTD and the parks.
