Walt Disney World Date Based Ticket System FAQ • Read First Page

I haven’t seen anything specifically but it’s hard to imagine they wouldn’t be able to be used for an upgrade if not expired.
Much discussion on “Disney wording” on pages 281-282 in the Ticket Sticky.

With respect to upgrading, it appears that the alarming language on the WDW website's FAQ only means that you cannot upgrade a MYW ticket to a higher-entitlement MYW ticket. The reason of course is that MYW tickets have been discontinued and replaced by the atrociously labeled "Walt Disney World Theme Park Tickets." So what you can do, if I follow this correctly, is upgrade your MYW ticket to a WDWTPT that has the additional entitlements you want. Disney seems to be trying to caution guests that the old MYW features (e.g., 14-day expiration) will not apply to the upgraded ticket which will follow WDWTPT rules instead.

So if I show up in January and want to add PH to my 4-day MYW base, I should be able to pay the "upgrade" fee (which is not really an upgrade per Disney, but eh...) and end up with a 4-day PH WDWTPT. It will be a distinction without a difference: Disney says it is not technically an upgrade because MYW tickets are no longer being issued, but the guest is getting the desired ticket anyway. Does this all sound accurate? :crutches:

If I have a MYW "value" ticket, how do I know the dates when I can use it?

Your ticket is valid until Dec. 31st, 2019. If you go during a non-value period you would have to pay the difference. Also is your ticket a MK value period ticket or DHS/Epcot/AK value period ticket?

Yes, but what periods/days are considered "value" now? They are no longer listed as such. It's a DHS/Epcot/AK ticket.

Value periods no longer exist under the current scheme so your best bet is to call Disney and ask when the ticket can be used. It will be valid during a value period until Dec. 31st, 2019. If it is not used before then it will retain its value in cost and you can "upgrade" the ticket by paying the difference.

A couple people in my group are thinking about upgrading from 7 day MYW to 8 day tickets. (They're driving me batty, one was going to do an AP, that's now out- grr....) Anyway, how will Disney price an upgrade if it's done mid-trip? I know they could upgrade now and make the start date one day prior to our trip for the cheapest cost. But what if they wait? I assume the system will pull the price from the first day the ticket was actually used? (If it pulls the price from the later days of our trip the upgrade could be $50 more :scared: )

No one has reported upgrade pricing from MYW to Theme Park Tickets.

CMs will use your MDX to note your first date of use and should calculate the cost of a current 8-day TPT minus the value of your MYW tickets.

From this thread:
“If a ticket needs to be changed after the start date, guests can visit guest relations at Walt Disney World.”

So I hadn't seen if someone had already explicitly confirmed this, but we did have successful price-bridging this past week from pre-10/16 MYW tickets (purchased at UT) to new Platinum APs. My 6-day PH MYW ticket was upgraded on first day of our trip (10/18) at Guest Relations inside of Epcot main entrance, and the CM hit my expected price right on the first try. They properly gave me the full gate pre-10/16 price versus current Platinum AP cost.

We upgraded my wife's ticket at AK on 10/22, at a random "ticket stand" near front of the park (staffed by just one CM). The first price he quoted was wrong, seeming to be ~$20 too high, presumably by crediting me the online price instead of gate price. When I told him that didn't sound right based on my prior experience, he tapped my Magic Band and was able to see the full history of my upgrade and the right codes to use to replicate it again for my wife.

I was also able to use a discounted Disney gift card brought with me to pay off the upgrades on each, so all my original savings were generally still intact. Still a little bummed that we paid essentially $50 extra per AP because of the 10/16 price hike 2 days before our pre-planned upgrade, but the pain at least stopped there, and still came out ahead overall with the UT savings.

Thank you for reporting and confirming upgrading MYW tickets to current APs. :goodvibes

Very valuable info for the thread!
