Short review for now because I’m exhausted. Overall, we had a great time tonight and I 100% feel the dessert party was worth the money and would do it again.

We did the party two years ago but not last year so not sure what’s the same.

We checked in for the party at 6:04 (and weren’t the first to check in). We were given lanyards and told to return to the opposite side of the Chinese Theater at 6:40 pm to meet Santa Goofy and be seated. We used that time to go take some photos with the tree and watch some of the TOT projections.

We returned to the theater at 6:30 pm and would have been first in line for Santa Goofy but didn’t realize that we weren’t going directly across from where we checked in so we were second in line. It was behind the ropes set up for the dessert party slightly more to the left. I definitely recommend checking in early and coming back to the theater early because the line for Goofy was significant before the party and there was a consistent line throughout. It was nice to be able to do the meet and greet first. If you aren’t amongst the first to check-in, there’s a time assigned to you on your table number to go up to the meet and greet.

The tables were assigned and we were told at check-in we’d be sharing with another party (coincidentally with the same last name) but we ended up being alone at the table. There were still empty tables during the party so maybe they ended up not having to combine groups.

The desserts were all good. The hot chocolate martini and Jingle Bell punch were my favorite of the alcoholic drinks. The party had a lot of people but the lines were never long at the bar or dessert stations. They came around to the table to hand out ornaments around 7:30. We left to head over to the viewing area at 7:45 before the rest of the party. The area wasn’t opened up yet but we were the 3rd group in line for it to open. They opened the area a few minutes after 7:50 and then walked everyone else in a few minutes later.

We sat at the very back of the area. There was a ledge a little taller than the rest of the stage that we sat on which was perfect for me because I’m short . Most people stayed seated in the viewing area except for some groups to the left and right. The viewing was great for the projections, not so good for the fireworks as it’s too close to really appreciate them. The viewing area was very full so I definitely recommend going over a few minutes early.

I’ll come back later with photos and more details!

Thank you SOOOO much for this review/advice! So many great hints! We have done Star Wars Dessert Party but never an outside one so all very helpful!!

We are going TONIGHT -11/7 and I will be sure to post our experience as well.

Did I read that you saw the Sunset greetings Projections? That would truly make my day!!!

This is all so very exciting! So, you check in at the actual Chinese Theater? On the right side? I'm assuming there will be a sign posted "check in for JBJB" like there was for the SW dessert party. And the dessert party itself is inside the theater? So when you returned you went to the opposite side of the theater to meet Santa Goofy? We left when they told us to leave while we were at the SW dessert party so I'm guessing leaving a few minutes early allows for being first or second in line at the ropes for the actual show. I'm trying to remember the "ledge" you are speaking of. We were on the right side of the viewing area if you are standing at the Chinese theater looking at Center Stage and while it was sort of sloped I don't remember a ledge. I would rather be sitting on something other than the ground as the older I get, the harder it is to get up, lol!

Yes

Just to clarify, inside the theater's courtyard.

As lvcourtneyy posted "if you aren’t amongst the first to check-in, there’s a time assigned to you on your table number to go up to the meet and greet."

As shown in the photo, it's not much of a ledge.

Yes!! We did! I didn’t see them last year so it was my first time and it was wonderful!

Yup the right side of the Chinese Theate. There is a check in sign.

If you are some of the first to check-in, they’ll tell you to come back at 6:40 and go to the opposite side of the theater to meet Santa Goofy. If you are told this, it’s to the left side of the Chinese Theater, slightly further back towards the theater. You’ll see a rope and character attendants. I recommend checking-in early for this reason. We had our meet and greet, got drinks from the bar and were finishing our first plate of food when many people were just entering.

The viewing area was the stage in front of the theater and there was a small ledge in the back in front of a planter. Perfect for sitting just above the ground lol.

The ledge is a curb, but still better than sitting on the ground for the most part (slightly).

ETA when we did the SW dessert party a week ago half or more of the curb was blocked by planters with trees/shrubs in them for the construction of the stage area that is where the daytime star wars show is/was, so there was only a very small part of the curb available and that was taken by the very first people in the area. We sat in front of the trees on the ground on the left side in the back (left while facing the stage), which would have had a curb had the trees/shrubs not been there.

Has anyone seen any reviews from bloggers that may have taken pics at last night's party? I know Chip & Co. was there, but I didn't see any pics.

So going to be at the world and want to do the JBJB show. Wanted to do the desert party but it is sold out the entire time we are there. What is a strategy to see this show with the Desert Party. Best place to see it? Do I ahve to show up 4 hours in advance to get a good location? On am planning on being in DHS on a friday night if that helps . Any ideas would be greatly appreciated . THANKS!

Is everyone expected to sit during the show? I can't get down (bum knees), so thinking that standing at the back would work?

There is no expectation or rule that you need to sit. I have done the SW dessert party twice since they changed to the current viewing area, and both times most people did sit but a few people stool near the edges. IN fact there were some bushes right in the middle at the front that meant you couldn't sit right behind them, and a small group stood right behind them. They didn't block the view for everyone sitting in the back, and apparently didn't block the view for those sitting behind them, either, because they still sat. You could also stand in the back, but people usually head there first to sit on the curb, and they for the most part do intend to sit unless they can't see from everyone standing. But like I said, you can stand anywhere you would like to. You just might feel like a heel if you are literally in the middle of everyone else sitting. The one review I read of the JBJB party as opposed to the SW party sounded like it might be more crowded, so it night not be an issue and everyone might end up standing.

I have to admit I'm in the camp that is happy when everyone sits in a situation like this, but I also understand that if someone needs to stand to see I can't expect them to sit down and have a poor view just so I also don't have to stand to see. I've been in that situation for viewing fireworks/shows/parades/etc where nearly everyone sat, and I've had it happen where a wave effect starts when one section stands and then everyone else has to stand up to see, and in the end nearly everyone is standing. I think overall I'm happy if i can possibly sit instead of stand for the lead up to a show, but I don't mind standing to actually watch it. I think it's a lot more difficult to stand for a long period of time than to either sit or walk, but I also know you have to go with the flow and sometimes you just have to stand and wait!

If JBJB starts at 8:30 and MK closes at 11 the night I am going, will there be busses going from HS to MK that late? How long is JBJB?
You'll be fine, JBJB is less than 15 minutes, 14 to be exact.

Anywhere where you can see the front of Chinese theater and the buildings on either side that the projections are shown on.

It's not necessary to arrive 4 hours early. Check out the viewing area about an hour before the Movie Magic show and if it's already somewhat full, which I doubt, grab a spot. If not, come back in about 30 minutes.
am planning on being in DHS on a friday night if that helps.
Friday and Saturday will be busier than week days. JBJB is nothing like HEA at MK in terms of crowds.

one of our streamers went yesterday and got a spot 1 hour and a half before and it was a good spot. No need for 4 hours. I would say 1 hour should be ok

This was our experience with SW dessert party. We sat towards the back (we weren't on a curb) and the only people who stood were the ones right by those bushes in the front. I could see fine. Dh did get up from a sitting position and went to the back by the steps because he gets fidgety.

While watching your stream I thought I saw someone who looked like Craig from the DIS....not sure if that was him but I expect if it was we'll see that on an upcoming show. I enjoyed the stream, btw!

It was Craig :) but last night it was Beth streaming not me, I will let her know you enjoyed it

We went to the party last night. It all seemed to go smoothly - we picked up our credentials at 6, and were maybe the 10th family back in line at 6:40!! But when they let us in - they handed us drinks and we had no lines anywhere all night.

Our goofy photo was at 6:55, but we saw them there waiting and no line and asked if we could go early - this was a smart move as it was the ONLY line we saw all night!!

We all enjoyed the savory and sweet items. Savory: spinach dip, chips and French onion dip, cheese fondue, flatbread and pretzel bones... Sweet: the regular array of sugary treats, the chocolate fondue station - in particular the strawberries - was amazing, and of course the liquid nitrogen frozen chocolate mouse was delish!

My DH preceded the Jingle Bell holiday punch and I loved the gingerbread martini and the hot chocolate martini...it was crazy to be drinking hot chocolate but it was so good!!
