What’s your families favorite dinner?

Right now, my family's favorite dinner is homemade tomato soup and grilled cheese sandwiches. My kids asked if we could have it once a week from now on. :)

Mine hasn't got a single favourite, so our favourites tends to be either a traditional English Sunday roast, a Friday/Saturday night curry or chili con carne.

My family’s favorite lately is something they call “shrimp stuff” - it’s basically a slightly lighter shrimp scampi, over pasta or rice, with some veggies thrown in.

Meatball subs have also been a hit lately.

wide tastes in this family, the ones we do when the whole family is here is limited to
tacos....but the grand kids don't like the
pizza....special pizza has to be made for DGD
spaghetti and meatballs.....and that needs special sauce for DD
breakfast
hamburgers
sandwiches

I am the family cook too. My dh is an excellent cook but he never gets home from work early enough to cook. Sometimes I don't have time or are too tired to cook. When that happens all of them including DS7 make themselves a sandwich or something else. Sometimes we make paninis on our George Foreman grill. A few nights ago DS11 took some frozen tuna steak out of the freezer and made a sauce for it from some wasabi, soy sauce and pickled ginger we already had. He thought it was delicious. My mother never made me learn how to cook and I wish she had even though I didn't want to learn. I expect my boys to learn because it's a useful life skill and I'm tired of doing all of the cooking.

Here's some that my fam likes...
Dorito Chicken (pampered chef recipe,...NO, Southern Living recipe not Pampered Chef)
salad with rotisserie chicken (can pull apart chicken and add to salad)
marinated flank steak
stir fry with rice noodles (heat wok with sesame oil cook chicken and add veges and sauce and then cooked noodles)
shrimp fettuccine alfredo (they are not into red sauces)
naan bread chicken pizzas (BBQ or buffalo sauce or garlic butter/white)

Skillet chicken parm (saute thin sliced chicken breasts in olive oil with a little garlic salt and pepper until browned, pour in a good quality jar marinara (I like Mezzetta and Rao's Homemade brands), cover the chicken with some fresh mozzarella cheese, sprinkle some fresh julienned basil over the top, put the skillet under the broiler until the cheese melts. Easy, tasty, and healthy.

Fajitas or tacos (this is a standby once a week for us). I like the sauce pouches by Frontera for these.

BLT Chicken salad (grilled chicken, bacon, tomato, romaine, ranch, croutons). This one is super easy to put together last minute as long as you have precooked bacon.

Greek tacos (pita or nana bread with grilled chicken marinated in Greek dressing (I like Ken's brand) topped with a relish made with diced cucumbers, red onion, kalamata olives, tomatoes, and pepperoncini tossed in Greek salad dressing).

Strombolis (I buy premae pizza dough at Trader Joe's and everyone makes their own with whatever filling they like. It's basically a pizza in burrito form)

Chicken marsala or piccata served with onion rice pilaf (super easy to make: dice an onion, saute in a little butter and olive oil until transparent, add a chopped clove of garlic, a tablespoon of dried parsley, some salt and pepper, then use chicken broth instead of water and make the rice according to the instructions. Use long grain rice, like Uncle Bens brand). This rice goes well with a lot of other things as well, so it's something I make almost once a week. I serve it with grilled steaks, pork tenderloin, grilled chicken, fish, etc.

Quesadillas, either plain or with mexican spice rubbed grilled chicken

Kebabs. Usually teriyaki marinated. Steak or chicken, bell peppers, red onion. Served with steamed rice.

Chicken tenders. I marinate them in a bit of buttermilk (just enough to make them damp) and spices overnight, then just dredge in flour and throw into enough hot oil so that they are deep fried). I serve with salad and baked sweet potato fries.

Meatballs. I use a very old recipe from the Good Housekeeping cookbook that is foolproof. I serve these with marinara and garlic bread plus salad. The recipe is: 1lb ground beef, one egg, 1/2 cup Italian bread crumbs, one clove chopped garlic, 1/4 cup grated parmesan cheese, 2 tbs dried or fresh chopped parsley, 1 teaspoon salt, 1/4 teaspoon freshly ground pepper. Fry in a small amount of vegetable oil in a nonstick skillet.

Last night I made butter chicken and it was really good. Never made it before but man it was good.

Beef stew is always a hit.

I never usually make shrimp, but recently I sautéed some in a pan with a little butter and salt and pepper. Served with rice pilaf and some broccoli and it was a hit.

@DLgal Quesadillas....yes, mine love love love that too.

And the chicken parm, I buy frozen breaded tenders and bake them most of way then add sauce and cheese and bake last few minutes. Though my 2 girls won't eat that and I'd have to just bake plain ones for them and they'd eat with plain noodles (while DS, DH and I would do the parm with sauced noodles).

Another thing mine liked was choc chip pancakes for dinner and can add sausage on the side for some protein.

I used to try and have no repeats within a month, other than tacos. Because tacos are life.

And then, one day, all 3 of my boys said "We could live on your tacos and spaghetti", and I was like "***. Why am I busting my *** to cook all this "no repeat" stuff, when they are happy either way?". So, for that 2 week stretch of meal plan, I made a MASSIVE crock of sauce and meatballs, and then a ton of taco meat. And, we had spaghetti, tacos, quesadillas, ravioli, sauce and bread, etc. for dinner. Throwing veggies on the side.

And, it worked, and we all were happy, and I was not in the kitchen making sure everything was just right.

So now, that is how we roll! We figure out what sounds good, and make a few weeks worth of it, and everyone is happy..

My favorite would be whatever looks good on a restaurant's menu. But, sadly, that's not realistic. Now that the kids are gone, I notice that we do eat a lot of baked salmon, and I admit to a comfort-food love for my spaghetti and meatballs, but my husband is happy to eat anything I make, and I find I'm happiest if I'm trying new recipes. I've found that I especially hate cooking the same thing over and over. I just found a Skinnytaste cookbook at Costco that has really good recipes for dishes made in one go - a skillet, a baking pan, a pot etc. So far we've liked everything we've tried, and the recipes are at least marginally better for you, while not tasting at all "diet", so I guess I'll keep working my way through that.

If it clucks DGD will eat it.
Her current faves are chicken, lemon and rice soup. I add whatever vegetables are on hand and sometimes a thin sliced potato.
Chicken and broccoli stir fry w/ white rice. Velveting is the secret to tender meat.
Chicken and soppressata; roast chicken, PR style arroz con pollo with guandules or green peas.

Beef?
Oxtail stew, any style; beef stew PR style, a steak, mashed taters or cauliflower and salad.
Meatloaf for the man, meat sauce Bolognese (I make a large batch, generally 2 different styles, and freeze in portion containers) with pasta; steak, mashed taters or cauliflower and salad. Veal piccata or Milanese.

Fish and seafood.

Slow roasted side of salmon with sorrel or watercress sauce (food processor is yr friend for the sauces) and roasted veggies. Leftovers can be used to make a variation on a salad Nicoise.
Rachel Ray's "Foolyabaise"
Sauteed scallops in white wine sauce.
Shrimps with leeks and curry
Mussels sauteed in white wine.
Clam linguine. Sometimes white, sometimes red.
Whatever whole fish looks good at the market.

There are only 3 of us I need to feed on a regular basis and one of us is pretty young w/ an open mind (except for cheese; sigh) and the other two are pretty old and prefer to eat the way we want.

DGD will only eat lamb when I lie through my teeth:). It's been "Bambizied" for her. The rest of us wuvvvvvvv baby lamb chops, the younger the better, roast leg of lamb (love that it's now available boneless and in smaller amts for smaller families) with tons of garlic and various herbs.
Errr we also can make an entire meal of asparagus when in season and count out ever spear judiously to ensure that nobody but the cook gets more than the other;).

Our weather has just suddenly turned unseasonably cold, & next week is supposed to be colder than usual as well. So, w/ the yucky weather in mind, I just grocery-shopped for this week's meals -

Tonight - pizza
Tomorrow - ham & egg biscuit bake casserole-thing w/ fruit
Sunday - beef roast & potatoes & carrots in the crock pot w/ green beans & yeast rolls
Monday - turkey burger sliders on Hawaiian rolls w/ sweet potato fries & baked beans
Tuesday - chicken tortilla soup
Wednesday - stuffed baked potatoes (I'm thinking the leftover chicken tortilla soup might work well as a topping?)
Thursday - southern chicken tortellini soup & corn bread
Friday - chili & hot dogs - I'm hoping the weather cooperates & we can roast the hot dogs over our fire pit

Child #3 is picky, & he adds a degree of difficulty to the meal-planning. I'm hoping that, as he gets older, his tastes change, & his palate becomes more varied. Tomorrow, I'll have to leave some ham out of the casserole & scramble him an egg. On Sunday, he'll eat the meat, some raw carrots, & mac & cheese. On Monday, his turkey burgers sliders will be made plain, & I'm not sure what he'll have for a side. On Tuesday, he'll have chicken & cheese quesadillas - I'll leave some chicken out of the soup for him. On Wednesday, he'll probably have a sandwich. On Thursday, I'll again leave him out some plain chicken from the soup, & he'll eat that w/ some of the tortellini. On Friday, he'll have a hot dog.

Thought of another meal they all liked. I'd get turkey or roast beef lunch meat, jar gravy, bread and make mashed potatoes and stove top stuffing. I'd heat the lunch meat and gravy and put over bread with stuffing and mashed potatoes for hot opens. Add a green vegie.

And pot roast with potatoes and carrots and rolls. They liked that.

I cook vegetarian so my family most likes my

Black bean soup from the crockpot served with rice or tortilla chips and cheese
Honey lime tofu with mango and avocado
Breakfast for dinner either puffy pancake or low flour banana pancakes
Vegetarian meatloaf with potatoes and veggies on the side
