Via Napoli "to go"?

I have really want to eat at Via Napoli and have an ADR for our upcoming trip in March.

My wife and I are staying at PO-Riverside for a 3 night Mardi Gras trip and we are taking our two puppies for their first time to Disney. I am purchasing an AP as we will be going back next December for 8 days. I really want to go to the Flower and Garden expo and my wife just wants to enjoy the resort with the dogs. I have a 2:30 reservation and I was hoping to order for two of us. I was going to order two appetizers, a pizza to split, and two desserts. I will plan to my meal at the restaurant and then get the rest to take back to the room for my wife. I really would like to ride the bus to the MK, take the monorail to Epcot, and see the spectacular flowers as the monorail goes around Future World before arriving at the station.

Does anyone think this will be a problem? Will I be able to take the food back on the bus or do I need to drive our vehicle to Epcot in the morning and just drive back to the resort afterwards? Any help would be appreciated.

I know there are some TS restaurants that are not capable of packing food to go, but I can't confirm if Via Napoli is one of them. Hopefully someone can confirm this for you.

But as far as bringing it on the bus, that won't be a problem. You're prohibited from openly eating and drinking on the bus, but you can carry the food on if its packaged up.

I'd be surprised if there were any restaurants that had absolutely NO take out containers for people to put their leftover food into.
Unless something has changed, this was the size of the takeout container at Via Napoli. Its a standard 8.5 inch square foam box like all the other restaurants. You wont have any problem eating your portion of food, then taking the rest to go.

The dog program is now permanent (so technically yes, the trial is over).

Every restaurant I've dined at is happy to offer takeout containers - we have often taken home leftovers. You won't have any issues transporting via Disney transportation either. Many times, they offer us nice big bags to place our containers in, too.

Per historical threads on this board (use search), they don't have pizza boxes to go, it will be a regular to go box.

"That is correct, they do not have pizza boxes even for the leftovers. They will use a normal doggie bag or box. We took a couple of slices with us after our meal, it was not pretty, just all jumbled up."

So it sounds like you'll likely be able to bring the food with you to go, but it will be a sloppy mess by the time you get it to your wife.

Correct, and I imagine it's intentional that they don't have pizza boxes...to discourage any attempt at "to go" stuff.

Disney restaurants simply aren't set up to handle "to go" orders. Take out orders slow the kitchen down, and decrease efficiency. In high volume restaurants, which nearly all at Disney are, efficiency is of the utmost importance.

We take Via Napoli to go frequently. But they are always deeply confused by 2 people ordering 2 huge pizzas then placing them in the containers, then the containers in a bag making sure they stay horizontal. We've done this primarily as our last meal of the trip to bring some pizza home (on a plane) to those that didn't tag along.

They do not have pizza boxes, but it is quite easy to fit a mezzo pizza in about 3 of the styrofoam containers and not damage the pizza. You just have to order at the table and explain that you want boxes.

Yes, last time I checked the container was a standard box (as pictured in my previous post), not a pizza box.

I really didn't expect it to work out well the first time. The server was seriously confused the first time what we were saying. Then we had 2 pizzas larger than our table and everybody was looking at us, and had to figure out how to package it. Then we got home at 3am and had a pizza party.

What's really funny is last time we did it, we ordered one to eat at the restaurant and the second to take home but staggered the cooking so we could have some room at the table. When the second pizza was ready they wheeled it over to find we had already finished a pizza, the guy got confused and brought the pizza back to the kitchen. Then they were trying to find where the pizza is supposed to go. Our server at least understood that time and went to chase them down. It took some time but they finally understood that those crazy people want another pizza.

oh my goodness :lmao: :rotfl2: :rotfl: I dont understand what is so confusing about that? You want to take pizza home. Period! Surely it cannot be the first time that happened. Lol. Its nice that you're giving people the heads up...sounds like its very much needed.

It's a sit down restaurant, so I don't think it's out of the realm of reasonable thinking that the service staff would be confused about people specifically ordering food to go. The World Showcase staff are also foreign and speak English as a second language, so between language and cultural differences, and ordering to-go food specifically from a sit down restaurant being uncommon, I can totally understand why there would be confusion.

Most of the confusion definitely comes from the language barrier. It's certainly not common, but it's also not complex. And since the restaurant has multiple servers, it's a little harder too since they may not all be in on what's happening. But it's always worked out in the end, and I'm always sure to tip them extra for dealing with my nonsense.

?

Olive Garden is a sit down restaurant also, but they have a buy one take one home deal. Servers at restaurants understand the concept.

We once ordered totally to go at Marrakesh (in case that’s not the name, it’s the sit down one in Morocco) because my 6 year old was hungry and their couscous dish sounded good to him while nothing else in the area did. At the time he (and his dad still does) had serious issues with eating at proper times, so his blood sugar would tank and it would get ugly. I went in, asked, paid and tipped, and he ate couscous in the courtyard area of Morocco while the other 7 family members wandered.

Our server at VN was as American as they come. In my experience the world showcase staff *sometimes* are from other countries, but not always.

Yes, exactly. I have noticed that as well.

Also I just wanted to point out that unless its literally your first day on the job at Via Napoli, how have you not had any requests for take-out boxes? Or do most people at Via finish their food? Lol.

I think PP is implying that being a TS restaurant inside of a theme park, where 99% of people dine-in, they may not be used to people ordering extra food specifically to go. I don't imagine its as common for restaurants inside Disney as it is for restaurants on the outside. Many Disney visitors still have hours left inside the park after their meal, or they are returning to accommodations not capable of or convenient for storing or heating up food. When I leave Olive Garden, I'm likely just going home.

And, asking for a box for leftover food when you're done eating is different, and likely more common, than ordering a second meal and asking for multiple boxes when the food is delivered. It just sounds like the food runner wasn't informed of what the PP would be doing, which they wouldn't be in any restaurant as just a food runner, and the server may have simply misunderstood.

A "buy one take home" deal has in its very name "take home," so it's a poor rebuttal to what I said. In fact, it pretty much isn't relevant at all. Via Napoli offers no such "take home" deals from within the table service restaurant.
