Mouse on the loose

We just got back from a wonderful New years celebration at Aulani. Booked 7 days (5 in a deluxe room and 2 in a one bedroom).
The deluxe room had awesome views. No complaints.
Last 3 days were interesting.
So, after our long stay at the deluxe bedroom, we transfered to a 1-bedroom villa (room 283) for the resr of our stay. Moving in was a breeze.
Spent our first night in the villa, no problems.
Woke up, get breakfast going for my family. To our surpise, someone(something) munched on the cover for our shoestring fries(chips). Also, we discovered bites on our hawaiian bread. Dang! We have a mouse on the loose! This is definitely not good.
To make the long story short, we talked to aulani management regarding the rodent problem. Solution: they moved us up(room 871) and gave us $100 for the incovenience.
What else can I do to make them realize it is not worth a hundred dollars. Feels like they treated it like it is not a big of a deal.
Please advice.
Thanks guys!

What more do you expect? They were informed of the issue, acted accordingly and moved you to another room plus gave you funds to replace the lost items? I don’t understand how much more you expect?

It is a tropical island and critters abound - walk at night time between Aulani and The Marriott, wait until you see the mongooses, slugs and cockroaches having a field day (night) on the paths and garden beds.

You said it was a wonderful stay but expect what - more money, vouchers, another holiday? Personally I think you got the right amount of compensation, no more no less.

Sorry Chuck, but I think that's pretty generous of Aulani. The resort didn't do anything wrong, so they really didn't owe you anything. Just be glad it wasn't a mongoose in your room.

Hmmm we discovered cockroaches (plural) in our room at Hyatt Place Waikiki and they comp'd our night.

I took pictures to show the front desk and I seriously get freaked out just thinking about it. Thank goodness we were leaving, I dont think I could have slept in the room again.

I do agree with the other posters, moving you and the $$$ was enough but I also know I would have been really upset and it probably would have ruined my sleep for the rest of the time at the hotel (I am big baby LOL)

I think you probably have no recourse for further compensation because you accepted the move in rooms and the $$$.

I also agree that in Hawaii and other tropical places rodents and insects are hard to control but I get where you are coming from, it is very expensive to stay at Aulani and it is disillusioning to have something like this happen.

Honestly, I’d go through that for a night with no questions asked. Animals are part of nature - it happens. I was in a luxury bungalow in Costa Rica once. Something startled me at night, I sat up, and a mouse fell right on my pillow where my head had been. I didn’t even think of telling people who worked there, until the next night, my door opened at 2 AM and an ocelot walked right in. Must have been chasing the mouse! While I wouldn’t love the idea of a mouse in Hawaii, it really isn’t a big deal. $100 and a deal to move you seems very generous.

Sounds like something that happens at motel6

To be fair, a mouse isn't indicative of a place being dirty or unkempt. Like bedbugs, it can happen to anyone anywhere. Any resort or even anyone's home. No place is immune. It would be impossible for the resort to 100% prevent this, so all they can do is compensate the guest when this happens. Which they did. If OP didn't like the compensation, he was within his right to negotiate something better at the time. But he has since settled and I agree with PP, there's likely no further recourse. OP can certainly ask though, the worst they can say is no.

I trully appreciate you guys. Thank you for your the replies. May we all have a good year this 2019 (and more vacations)!

I agree that freeloading mouse was more than an inconvenience.
Totally UNacceptable.
I’d have taken photos of the “snackin” requested a full refund of my room and been moved to another at no cost plus asked for money for snacks.
That’s disgusting, unappealing, not healthy and clearly Not Acceptable ... even if he were Mickeys long lost cousin.
Eek!!

To be honest, I probably wouldn't have even mentioned it. I'm just like that though, bugs and critters are a part of life. Where there is food and foliage etc, there will be animals.
It's not a big deal - to me anyway. I wouldn't be concerned about it at all.

Honestly, this is something that they can't prevent completely, they took appropriate action and compensated you for anything you might have lost, not sure what more they could have done.

requested a full refund of my room

A full refund of the room? Like, your whole stay? That's completely unreasonable. The only compensation you'd be due is any money you're out. Unless the mouse ate you're food, you're not out any money. It's definitely off-putting and an inconvenience to have this happen, but the hotel wouldn't owe you anything other than any damage you incurred as a result. Because its the service industry and guest satisfaction is important, a goodwill gesture of a room credit or a night's compensation would be typical and appreciated by most.

Woke my husband up in a panic! It was a small cat - not like a mountain lion and wandered back out of our room. The rest of the trip, I pushed a coffee table against the porch door.

Now that would freak me out - we had geckos on the bedroom walls once at Aulani, my husband thought it was hilarious watching me squirm. Thankfully they were in the kids room so I slept ok LOL.

Did you at least save money on your car insurance?? LOL

Those geckos loved my DD and would just crawl up in her hand to hold and look at. She’s always had a weird thing with birds too. Maybe dressing up as Snow White at age 3 put a mark on her!
