I need 25% of your courage. (sorta like I need 25% of my toddler's energy)

I went to staples finally to get the visa GCs. Plenty of cards and no sign up about the deal. Normal guy who always cards me for any GC purchase wasn't there, oddly. Anyways, you'd think I was stealing the darn things, I was so nervous. Why? Because I was buying 2 at once and the limit in the ad say 1. :rotfl:I am seriously a chicken. Well, it all went through just fine, 2 in one purchase, and they guy didn't even ID me.

I felt the same way when I bought my VGC's. I got carded at the checkout (which has never happened before) and I walked out feeling like I stole them just because I knew I was only supposed to get one! I could never do MO's, I'd be a big sweaty mess standing at the checkout for MO's.

I'm not sure. DH has all the MRs and he just got the personal plat. Another huge fee would stink, esp since we don't use most of the benefits otherwise.

ETA: I will keep working on my UR stash for GCs. I just have no use for these MRs that I know of.

I haven’t been able to figure out how I’d use MRs either....since we don’t travel internationally or first class...those seem to be the best use and others here have booked great trips/flights ..
We are pretty boring and use our SW points+ CP flying to Orlando visiting my son and of course the mouse so URs and RR points work best for us

Man they weren't lying when they said you guys were fast paced. Hiiiiiiiiii. I hang out at Debt Dumpers most of the time. Round one we abused credit cards and paid for it the hard way. This round we're much wiser and use them our advantage. We're two spenders though, so we're paying down/off 10k. I'm wondering if anyone has any stats on the Disney Chase. I've read what Doctor of Credit currently has on what they're currently running...what I'd like to know is what kind of score you need to get the card and what kind of score is going to get you what kind of limit. We're trying to up our active accounts to bump up our scores ahead of buying a house in 2020-2021. Also this specific card would come in very handy for our Christmas 2019 trip, giving us more of a discount than gift cards would I think. We'll have the cash set aside, use the card for the discounts, and pay the balance when we return.

I've recently gotten two high limit cards with $100 bonuses if I spend $1000 within the first 90 days, and have been putting that towards our debt dumping as well. So I guess I like to play the game teeeeeeeeeensy little bit. We don't travel hardly at all though. Definitely not as much as some of the amazing things I've caught in the last 17 pages I just skimmed. If anyone has any advice/info I'd appreciate it!

I'd be cautious about getting new cards and charging more while paying down debt.
That said, the Disney Visa is about the easiest chase card to get. Usually in the 600s credit score.

There are referral links on Dischurners - might get you a better signup than the $50 statement credit on the no fee version.

ETA: I see the no fee version is $100 credit after first purchase. You can do a lot better if you're going to waste a hard pull. I will say if you want the theme park discounts, you can open a chase bank account and get a Disney debit and it has all the same discounts as the credit card. Just a thought.

We keep getting hit over the head with one financial thing after another lately, so I wondering if free is best, even if it isn't necessarily the best redemption.

Going to play devil's advocate because you mentioned this line and someone else started a discussion on this previously about how we (maybe not here, but definitely r/churning) try to chase the maximum cpp, even if in the process we 'forget' what our goals truly are or whatever is the best redemption for the individual/family. In your case, if "free" is best, then perhaps ignore the notion of cpp (I have a hard time saying this, but I think it's important for some to consider, in the right situations).

I think @GlamMistress said this recently, points are worth nothing if they aren't redeemed. I personally advocate for the Schwab cashout, but if timing is an issue, and free now is better than 1.25x later, then you do you.

I think this is a good point. We always talk about maximizing points and annual free nights but if something comes up and you need to use that free night for you to save cash or to help someone out and it's only a cat 1 it's still a good redemption if it fills the current need of free or if it'd go unused otherwise.

My Airbnb host said she can’t get them because it has to be the person actually going to the museum who buys them. I’m still hoping I can get them through JTBUSA but we only have one good day we could go now and that’s the first day they will open back up. Since we are at an Airbnb during that part of our stay I don’t feel like we could use our Hilton hotel to buy tickets.

What website did you use to buy them online?

I used this website and was online at exactly the time that tickets became available: https://l-tike.com/st1/ghibli-en/sitetop

That's odd that your airbnb host can't get them for you. If it were me, I would ask the Hilton concierge anyway--they know how hard it is for people outside Japan to get tickets and I suspect it is a pretty standard thing for them to get them for guests. I had to scan and email a form that authorized them to charge the tickets to my credit card; it seemed like this (getting tickets for guests) was a routine occurrence.

Thank you for your concern, I have been careful to work on getting to my spends by merely using the card to pay our month's bills, then paying the balance off with the funds allocated from our budget. I do NOT want to go back down that road again.

For my purposes, the bank account/debit card might actually suit my purposes better. I really do just want the theme park discounts. Given that I'll already have the money, it will give me an excuse to remove it from our main account as well. Thank you for the suggestion I will look into it!

I totally agree. If there are a lot of bills to pay at the moment I'd care more about free than the value per point. I think it really depends on the situation. If I was going to travel right now, after paying a ton of bills (some expected and some unexpected) I'd be looking for as close to free as possible. At other times I'm looking for maximum value.

There you go changing your pic again! It’s gonna take me like a week to get used to this!
I'm sorry! I've been meaning to change it for awhile. My boys frequently are with me when I'm on here reading and they ask why the pic is just of their sisters. So, I wanted to change it and with the new thread, I got inspired to actually do it :)

I wasn't being preachy so I hope you didn't take it that way!

You can get $200 for opening a Chase checking which would be better than opening the Disney credit card!

That's what I was afraid of. So if I just go ahead and book flights out of pocket, my next objective will be earning cash back rewards and/or Disney gift cards to help pay for the resort/tix/dining. Looks to me like the only way to earn Disney GC's is through a Disney Visa.

Unfortunately, the only "side" business I have going on is eBay.

As far as my interest - I would absolutely LOVE to be able to travel more. I'm a single mom now and my youngest child has special needs. I'm on a limited income, but I love to crunch numbers and play the game.

I haven't used the Freedom card hardly at all, but yes I would cash out the points or use them on Amazon. I just saw the 5% back in select categories. It could potentially earn me $75 towards the trip. (up to $1500 in purchases). I want to make the best investment I can in a card I can use for future trips also. It's deciding which one right now, that's my dilemma.

I probably could spend that much in 3 months. I just did a quick run down and think I found at least $1000 monthly I could charge and then pay off, as long as some of my utilities accept CC for payment.

Ebay would qualify you for the CIP and that would give you a large chunk of URs. If you're looking to really get into churning, a Disney Visa probably isn't the best to start out with. Many members on this board value Chase cards and URs that come with it, but to really maximize churning with Chase, you have to be aware of the 5/24 rule. Since it sounds like you're under 5/24, I'd look for other more lucrative Chase cards to apply for than the Disney Visa.

I'd also really think about what you want to do in the future - if you're only thinking about your upcoming trip and want the SW companion pass for that and think you can do the MSR in 3 months, then if you apply right now, you may be able to get the CP by late April - all depends on when your statement closes. But as you said, flight prices for May would jump by then. You'd probably have to aim to do your MSR in under 2 months if you want to get the CP by March when prices will probably still be low for May flights. However, all that being said, if you're interested in traveling more in general and are looking to do churning long term, getting the current public SW card promo isn't the best avenue for a CP. There's a more lucrative way (apply for SW personal and SW biz cards through special links) that would net you more than triple the number of RR pts and 2 years worth of CP instead of just 1, and the total MSR needed is only an extra $1k over the public offer.

Me either. I just got into MRs with all the hoopla about the Rose Gold Amex (well, again, not me per se...made my DH get it) and didn't want to miss out. Not quite sure how lucrative they are, but with all the talk about Disney Japan in the last thread, I think I have my sights on what to use them for.
