Need ideas of food to sneak in

Actually asking for a friend here. Friend works at a job where they are not allowed to take anything into work with them. They go through metal detectors and a light pat down before entering. Once inside they have to are forced to make unhealthy food choices out of a vending machine for meals. Friend is looking for some ideas of what to hide in a pocket that will make it past the metal detectors, a light pat down (the high is below 20 here today so bulky coat weather) and be healthier than vending machine but still pretty filling. Any ideas?

Sounds like the employees need to band together and talk to management - very odd not allowing outside food but bad vending is ok? They need a healthy option if no outside food is allowed

RX bars might work... small, filling, and not the worst choice

What the heck? Sounds worse than prison. People are eating candy bars and cookies for lunch? I’d love to know what type of business this is that doesn’t allow its workers to eat healthy food. Somewhere where they want their employees to die early so they don’t have to pay pensions?

There are uncrustables and some kind of bologna sandwiches in the vending machine, other than that I'm not sure. No option to leave to go to the car.

Wait, this person works at a job where they are not allowed to leave for lunch, they are not allowed to bring anything in and the only available food is from a vending machine?

LOL sounds awful!!!! This can't be legal. What about people with special diets or medical conditions where they have to eat gluten free or something?

Would you share, vaguely, if need be what kind of workplace this is?

I know lots of people that work in secure blogs that require high level security, but they can still leave for lunch, bring their lunch and have actual food onsite. I’m having such a hard time picturing this.

I would probably be looking for a new job. In all honesty, like a pp mentioned, if they’re this strict then sneaking in food will likely have consequences. Not only that, but you’ll only be able to sneak in marginally healthier (diet or protein bars etc) options.

Yikes, that sounds horrible! What kind of company doesn’t allow you to bring lunch? Can they go to HR?

Just following "the rule". ;)

I also agree with a pp who said that there could be consequences from breaking the rules and bringing in food. Plus, it would have to be something like granola bars, nothing that is bulky or requires refrigeration. Would they stuff it down their pants and eat it in the bathroom? They may have cameras or other security measures. If there is an actual pat down to try to find contraband food I'm not sure sneaking is the answer. Maybe talking to HR to try to change the policy or get an exception due to healthy eating preferences. Like if you have high cholesterol, maybe their dr. can write up something about how they have to eat low fat/low carb diet or something. I would take a long hard look at if the job was worth it or not.

So if a workplace is that restrictive on bringing food in from outside, either there's a safety/security reason for it (in which case circumventing that rule could spell VERY bad news), or the company is unreasonably controlling (in which case the friend should be looking for a new job asap). I suspect if they go to the trouble of having security checkpoints/patdowns that it is a safety issue and would NOT recommend trying to get around it. Leave for lunch, or have a conversation with management about making in-house options healthier.

Protein Plus Power Bars. 22 grams of protein. Very filling. Long, slim, fits in pockets, able to go (almost) anywhere. If the foil sleeve doesn't make it through the metal detectors, open pouch, cut the power bars in half and wrap in plastic wrap. Eat in a bathroom stall.

What’s really bizarre is the OP said they’re not allowed to leave for lunch.
