Success with Touring Plans requesting rooms?

I didn't request a specific room.

What I did list were my priorities: 1-connecting 2- ground floor 3- building number.

A specific room number is meaningless without context.

Ok, thanks. The website suggests requesting a floor, direction facing, and room number examples.

When I use Touring Plans room request, I use a specific room # as a guideline and then explain why we would like such a room. We have yet to receive the specific room # but we have been placed very close - once right next to, once exactly one floor below, and once on the opposite wing but the same room type and view as the other wing. Each time, we have been very pleased with our placement. I think explaining why you like the specific room and using it as an example is a better way to possibly end up with a room you really like.

For example, on our latest request at SSR, I gave a room # as an example and told them we would like it or something similar because it was 1) close to the Carriage House 2) Fountain View 3) not the ground floor.

While we did not receive the exact room # requested, we did end up very near and each of our 3 reasons for liking the requested room was fulfilled.

Touring Plans room request feature never suggests a specific room. It only uses a specific room to send a fax that requests a room with features that match that room, such as floor, facing direction, near services, etc. It ONLY gives context.

Sample of what their fax will contain

The actual request that Touring Plans faxes is going to have a handful of rooms listed, along with things like floor, direction facing, and building

In the body of the request my suggestion is to say why that's important, otherwise the assigner doesn't know what the priorities are or why you want that room (view? close to elevator? heard it has a bath tub and not a shower? close to the lobby? on a specific floor?).

I have never been given a specific room I've requested but by adding things like "We'd like a room on the highest floor, close to the elevator" we have generally been happy with where we've been assigned. If the request is too specific and the assigner can't meet the request then they place you wherever there's room.

I think I left the room number text in there but in the notes listed the requests I was actually looking for.

I got 2/3 of my requests. The only one that couldn't be fulfilled was the building number, but that was due to renovations.

Has anyone had success with Touring Plans requesting a specific room at your resort?
Yes, a very high success rate
ETA - I rarely add anything to the body of the fax form. Maybe a note that I'd like a room ready early if at all possible if we really want that but usually, I just use the finder, select a room, complete the blanks on the fax and leave it alone. We get a room that matches more often than we don't. I've never used the service and been unhappy with what we were given, even when it didn't match at all. Then again, we may be the "un"pickiest people on earth.

Of course, unless you manually include the exact room number, they never receive a specific room # either. As you note, the fax from TP never gives them a single room number anyway, only a series of similarly featured rooms. The only way Disney would know what room you used as your initial selection would be if you entered it in the body of the fax yourself.

I'm glad I listed my requests because while I wanted to be in building 3 at POFQ, it was really more important to have connecting rooms on the ground floor, so they stuck us in building 7.

No. I never have had much success. But we are DVC and I believe the Villas available on any given day are limited.

I requested a balcony room in Somoa at Poly 2 years ago via TP, and got Niue ground floor. But we were thrilled with it - we had a nice patio area, and Niue was very close to the bldg we had requested. We found it to be a lovely location, close to both pools and the GCH. Good luck with your request!

We do this every trip, and like others have stated we never got the exact room requested but did get a room very close to it in the desired area almost every time. So yes I think if you know where you want to be then it is worth it.

Very noteworthy distinction. DVC requests are very different animals from regular resort room requests. While I have very limited personal experience with DVC and what I have is always when booking right from Disney I do understand that DVC doesn't accept faxes in the same way that the regular Resort rooms division (forgive me for not remembering the correct name) does. Especially when you are talking about rooms booked on points.

I'm 0 for 2 with Touring Plans faxed room requests. But I don't attribute that to Touring Plans, specifically. It's just the nature of room requests---sometimes you get them, sometimes you don't, regardless of the method used to make them.

And it should be noted that, in one of these two cases, the room I was assigned was an upgrade. Can't be mad at that!

Very helpful info, everyone - thank you! I’ve heard to send requests 1-2 weeks ahead, so we will give it a shot!

I have done as sponica 3 times and got my request fulfilled all 3 times.

It's the request itself that determines your odds of getting the room you want, not the method you use to make the request. If there are a lot of rooms at the resort that would satisfy your request, your chances are much better than if there are only a few rooms that meet your criteria.

Not a specific room request but I used it in 2017 for a near lobby room at AKV and we got a room right next to the lobby on the first floor.

This year we're staying near hospitality house at OKW, and I'm going to request the Peninsular Road area specifically.

I didn’t get the specific room
But all of my criteria was met. I had it numbered from highest to lowest priorities. We had to move rooms in our split stay and I got all criteria except building met that time. We were very happy.
