I have no doubt this is what the Chase CSR reps told you, but I don't believe it. I put DH's middle initial on his CIP #2 app yesterday, and it is not on his first CIP or CIC. His new CIP is sitting in his online Chase biz account this morning without my doing a thing.

Hmm. The first rep created an account for the new card and transferred me to IT to merge accounts. The IT rep said that if the first guy hadn't created an account that it would have shown up automatically if they had added the middle initial. So IT rep transferred me to someone to change the name. That person hung up on me. Next rep changed the initial and insisted on mailing me a new card even though the CIU card stock is still not in and I will be getting a new card when it does. Then IT merged my accounts (also the very first guy who set up an account for my new card spelled my email wrong so I couldn't even access that account. I tried when I was hung up on and thought, why bother going through all of it again, but no, couldn't access it). So now I have a weird landing page on the app where my name shows up twice and the top name leads to my first two cards and the bottom name leads to my CIU.
So I don't know what the heck happened, but it was/is annoying lol.

I would vote for CIP #2. If you're planning to use it in Japan, make sure you get one with no foreign transaction fee. The CIP does not have the fee. The CIC does.
That’s good to know. I didn’t realize the CIC had foreign transaction fees. I would rather have the CIC when we’ll be home and can take advantage of the 5x on office stores.

Similar to @Calfan, I left off the MI on DW's CIP#2 whereas her CIU and CIC have the MI, and CIP#2 still showed up on the same account as her CIU and CIC.

Weird. I also have 2 personal accounts. I've had a Disney card since 2003 and never changed my last name on it. When I got my CSP last year I used my married name (and later updated to my full legal name which is both maiden and married because my name had to match the one on my RR account to transfer points). I'd never had more than one Chase card before so I didn't know it should show up in my account so started a new one for the CSP. Once I started reading here I just assumed it didn't show up because of the name.

I'm getting ready to apply for a CIP using DH's referral. Is there any reason to use (or not to use) an incognito window for the application?

I'm coming out of lurkdom (not a real word) to thank y'all for this thread. I've been reading the past month, month and a half and have learned some valuable things. I also appreciate all the off topic talk. I do not post often (occasionally on the swagbucks thread), but do read the DIS regularly. I will have to get a reddit account to keep up with news. I had to catch up with this thread after Mardi Gras last week! I don't need any real advice, but wanted to stop lurking. So as a way to introduce myself here are our stats-

Me:
Express 2000 (first credit card, must have been senior year or first semester of college)
Capital One 2001
Old Navy 2003
Disney(no fee) 2007
Citi(TYpref) 2009
CIP approved and expedited this morning! (referred from DH)

DH:
BofAm 2012
CIP 1/19

DH is a realtor (so actual business) and we own a few rentals (that's what I used as my business). I am a SAHM. Fortunately for his CIP (unfortunately for us) we just had to spend thousands on repairing floors at one of our rentals. With that and putting regular spend (health ins, cable/internet, utilities, cell phones, etc) we are just about finished with the spend. That's why I went ahead and got myself one. We do not travel by plane regularly. We've actually never flown together in almost 17 years of marriage. I have never even booked a flight (have gone with groups to various places, but others did the bookings in the past). We may do a trip to Cali this summer, so we'll probably use the UR for flights. Had I known our plans sooner, we may have gone for SW cards, but we may go for them in future. We will not need hotels, as I have family with a house north of San Diego, as well as a car for us to use:) We go to beach often, but my mom has a house on Pensacola Beach, so no need for hotels, and only 5 hour drive, so no need for flights. We have a small airport in town, but can fly out of New Orleans or Houston. Hoping to go to Europe next summer (France) to celebrate DD graduating high school. So maybe need to start a plan for that (know I'm a little late with that, but got to start somewhere). I could go to Disney every year, but family wants some different experiences. My in laws also have timeshares, so we have stayed for free in condos near Disney. I really just wanted to introduce myself, get out of lurking, and thank everyone for all the wonderful advice, experiences, and off topic conversations on this thread. Sorry for the long post, just wanted to give some background, as I slowly begin this churning thing!

Edited- When I typed it out dates were in line, DIS did not keep them all pretty (it's bothering my slightly OCD self, and I'm sure others)

Hi and welcome! Looks like you are in a great spot with the CIPs for both you and your husband, way to go! Chase URs are super flexible in usage so you can't go wrong with accumulating them.

If you're planning on going to Europe next summer, things you need to be looking at now (if you plan to use points or miles to mitigate your expenses) is 1) what airlines fly from your desired origin and destination and how many points do they require for a free ticket, and 2) what hotel chains are in the areas you're staying and how many points do those cost. Or if you want to bypass that and keep it simple, then URs are your friend (but not always the best deal). At some point soonish, I recommend one of you get a CSP and then once your AF hits next year, upgrade it to the CSR for the $300 travel credit and 1.5xUR redemption multiplier.

If you PC a CIP to a CIU, do you still get the 0% APR on purchases for the intro period? Or does the original date of your CIP card carryover, which would result in the intro period being over?

You only get the 0% APR on the CIC/CIU if you sign up for them directly, not via PC. The card keeps the same account opening date despite a PC.

I SM'd to lower DHs Chase Biz limits and it's already done. Think I'd be okay trying for a CIP for him tomorrow?

You might give it a few days. Lowering Chase biz CLs isn't like lowering personal CLs and then waiting until next statement close for Chase to report the lowered CLs to the credit reporting agencies. Chase doesn't report biz limits to your personal credit reports so you don't necessarily need to wait until close of statement for Chase to see the lowered biz CLs. (And it's very unlikely Chase would be reporting all their sole proprietor biz cards to the business credit reports.)

But anecdotally, I have seen folks who have lowered biz CLs, then apply very soon after, but get denied for sufficient credit extended; and then they'll apply a month later without any changes, and get approved. (Could be a velocity issue too?)

(Hope that made sense. Feeling very tingly and head is foggy today, probably from some germ my kiddo brought home from school.)

I just had a very pleasant but kind of bizarre call with an Amex rep. Got a call on my cell that I thought could be related to another credit card app so I answered. Turns it it was Amex calling about my Biz Plat. The rep thanked me for my years of membership with Amex. Then I think the point of the call was essentially a low-key sales pitch for the Biz Plat and the recent "enhancements" that supposedly justify the increase in the AF. I told him that I was on the fence about renewing given the increase in the AF and some of the changes that weren't a particularly good fit for me. I did mention I was disappointed to see the elimination of the 35% points rebate feature. He asked what I like about the card, so I mentioned the wifi passes, the recently added Dell benefit and some of the good offers I've been seeing on the card lately (like the AT&T wireless one). Then he did ask me what my business is and what its needs are. I responded that my business is a side business selling on ebay, and we got into a very nice discussion about that since he does some re-selling as well. The call ended with him acknowledging that everyone needs to evaluate their needs against the costs and benefits of a particular card, and he essentially assured me that Amex wouldn't hold it against me if I decide to cancel the Biz Plat in August when the AF comes due (while still getting the plug in there about the card's great benefits), lol.

It does! I'm just chomping at the bit here, all excited. No super big reason to apply this week even, so maybe I'll just plan for Monday :)
