Ugh do you think these 7-10 days on the CIPs is a sign Chase is catching on?
@tink1970 was a first application, and I thought @wed100105 was too (for their respective DH's) so I don't think this latest revelation has been caught yet - other than maybe there's an excessive amount of apps out of the blue and Chase decided to tighten up a bit. But that theory seems a little shaky. For now I think it's a coincidence but I'm about 50/50 on my guesses lately, so who knows :p

Good to know!! Time will tell

Is this just free for platinum card holders?

Escape Lounges are free to Amex Platinum cardholders +2 guests ages 2 and up. I believe the Lounges admit children who are under 2 in your party for free. Otherwise, entry is $40/person if you make an advance reservation, or $45/person at the door.

I'm really excited for you guys up Providence-way. I've heard and read great reviews of the Escape Lounge in OAK.

How does this one work? I've been wondering for DHs BoA card. Is it all online or certain merchants?

I'll preface this by saying I haven't bought anything online with it yet (because MSRs!), but from what I've read on FT and the BoA website, it will be good for many retail merchants (including online travel like hotels and airlines) but won't work to pay doctor's bills or insurance bills that are payable online. I contemplated trying it on Plastiq to see if it would code 3% but haven't tried it out yet. Maybe someone else who has this card will chime in.... @happ?

This was my go-to card before finding this thread. With the new 3% online shopping category, I use it for all my online purchases. It has worked for everything I've bought online so far, off the top of my head: Amazon, costco.com (laptop for BIL who doesnt have Costco membership), staples.com (VGC), and a bunch of retailers (Disney store, Macy's, Kohl's).

Yes, that's the Brewers' Series. Are the fireworks at the stadium? Standard rate was over $300 before the fees. Do you know if the 3 day passport covers the Muni and the BART (back to OAK) rides? Saving your post..again. Thanks

The fireworks on Fireworks Night is over the water right off of the ballpark, so yes you can watch the fireworks from the stadium.

Sadly, the visitor passport is only for the Muni system (BART is a separately run system), but it's good for unlimited rides on Muni, Muni Metro (the light rail cars), historic streetcars (the F- and E-Embarcadero lines), and cable cars. Think of Muni as San Francisco's city run public transportation system, and BART as a regional commuter train system.

Good news today-Cookie dog will not be receiving surgery so the fact that we won't have (likely) a CIP SUB MSR to meet is moot. Hooray! The vet was wonderful and thinks she can do fine without it.

Second good news (and actually On Topic)...received my Barclay AA Biz yesterday, activated it and today within about 15 minutes met MSR so that's 61K AA miles headed my way (as well as a year of yard some kind of service/2 dogs' meds for a year).

So I'm 2 for 3 today and I'll take it. If we don't get the CIP I'll change strategies for payment of our Oct ABD. I'm also considering letting this application be denied then trying (myself for DH) again later. Is the recommendation 3 months after a denial? I can't remember because it hasn't happened to me with Chase.

It could just be verification. I think I would at least call the regular number (back of card - 800-945-2028), see what the deal is. Or wait for the letter if you don't want to call. If it's a true denial you can then decide not to recon. From what people say on reddit, I believe it's 30 days to try again.

So what I recall about MRs... is they are best for international flights or Schwab cashout :D I'm going to be a noob and ask for some examples of how they could get me to Europe, not caring about first/business class necessarily. I get overwhelmed looking through the transfer partners because I'm not familiar with any of them.
Hey there, I'm sure you have already received some good advice, but thought I'd share my experiences booking flights to Europe over the past few years. We go to the UK every year to visit DH's family and had only ever flown in Economy until last year.

For our trip last summer, I decided pretty late to try and book with points. We booked our outgoing flights to London in March for travel in July. Premium Economy seats on Virgin Atlantic to London cost 37.5K each for LAS to LHR (we flew on SW from SMF to LAS). We fly Virgin regularly so we had some points built up, but I also transferred points from Citi TYP and AMEX MRs. We paid $173 per ticket in taxes. It's a good idea to use a card like the Arrival+ or the Venture card to pay for the taxes and then you can erase them with points. Our flights back were a little more complicated because me and DS were flying back from Madrid, but DH had a conference in Portugal so he flew back from Lisbon. Actually, we got a great deal for DH, caught a sale for Delta Comfort for 30K points. I transferred MRs to cover that flight. I had a really hard time getting a flight back from Madrid for DS and I. The best option was on ** changing in DFW (nightmare) for 60K pts and $50 in taxes each. It was March and I had NO points to my name, so I scrambled and got a Marriott card and an personal card, opened some PNC accts to quickly meet the MSRs, and had the flights booked by the end of May. Phew, that was stressful, but it worked, lol!

For this summer, we had a full year to plan. DH has a conference in Amsterdam, so he's flying out a week before us. He's flying into Paris CDG and then will take the train to Brussels to meet up with some friends, and then DS and I will fly into Amsterdam and meet him there. We booked all our flights via Virgin Atlantic in Delta One business class lie-flat seats. We got a SMOKIN' deal...50K pts each, but we transferred MRs when AMEX was having a special with VA, so it really only cost us 39K miles each and like $5ea in taxes (I think they normally cost 125K one way if booked through Delta). We are positioning ourselves out of LAX. DH's flight LAX-CDG is in Delta One Suites!! My flight is LAX-AMS in the normal Delta One pod, but still looks nice. This is our first time flying lie-flat seats and I CAN.NOT.WAIT! Our flights back from LHR-LAX are regular old economy seats on British Airways for 25K miles each plus $345ea in taxes (ouch). We had a small stash of BA miles and transferred the rest from AMEX. I still think it's a good deal since we would have paid at least $1,000 per economy ticket had we booked with cash. If we had AA miles then we could have used those for the BA flight, but I think the taxes would have been about the same flying out of London. If you don't include London on your itinerary, then you can avoid most of those taxes.

Here's some info on how to book the Delta flights via Virgin: https://thepointsguy.com/guide/cheap-delta-awards-virgin-atlantic-flying-club/ (I know, it's TPG, but they sometimes have useful info!). If you are able to book a year in advance, then you shouldn't have any trouble getting the flights you want. You will probably need to position yourselves and fly from a large hub to get the best deals.

Good luck, and let me know if you have any questions! So exciting!

Boo! I just completed the $500 on 3/12 and 3/13 I was $250 richer. Just made the request to transfer the funds back to our CU account so I can open an account for DH.

Which Chase account are you looking at? If you are going for both the checking and savings bonus, you will have cash tied up for a bit. My $10k is sitting there making a whopping $.08 a month until I can reduce it to $1.5k in 3 months.

I was just looking at the checking. I don’t have $10k to sit even for a hot second let alone weeks. Jealous of all those that have bundles of cash. Lol That is largely reason I have stayed away from back bonuses. Just don’t have extra cash.

With only having one child, we have taken a completely different route for DS's college fund which makes having cash available much easier. Have you done Wells Fargo? That one doesn't require tying up cash for extended periods. I just "DD" from my CU the $500 every month and as soon as it posts I transfer it back to my CU to keep it fee free until I can close-out the account.

I'm just too chicken to app DH for a second CIP so I had him PC his current CIP to CIU. Then he (me) app for the AMEX Marriott Blahblah Biz. Instant Approval!

Am I correct in thinking it will be okay to app him immediately for a Chase Freedom? He is 2/24 and last Chase app was CIU 10/29/18 and his CL is under 30%. Amex takes a while to report to CR so Chase won't see the app today, right?

Back home from Orlando...and catching up...used my Priority Pass for the first time...DH actually asked when we got to the airport...can we try going into that “lounge thing” you were telling me about....I was surprised since the last 2 times we flew out he didn’t want to go.
Went to The Club on the A side...around 11:30 and it was not crowded...they did ask to see our boarding passes...had some snacks and a drink...
DH is now hooked and wants to get to the airports early

Got it, thanks. So are the fireworks put on by the Giants or the city?

Do you mean the AmEx Marriott Biz? AmEx biz cards don't show up on your personal credit report. Did AmEx even do a hard pull? You should be good to go on the Freedom. Don't think Chase is very inquiry sensitive even if there was a hard pull, mostly velocity and CL sensitive.

Dosh replied and asked for a picture of my bank statement showing the charge and the last 4 digits of my cc. I sent them a picture and I'm just waiting to hear back. They got back to me pretty fast!

I SM'd Chase to lower some of Dh's CLs. I only have one Chase card and my CL is already pretty low.
