I got Buffalo, NY and Madison and Milwaukee, WI??? I was born in VA and raised in Southwestern CT and have lived in VA most of my adult life.

LOL are you sure that wasn't the least likely locations setting? I had Milwaukee as one of mine for places I wasn't from haha.

With all the talk of different pronunciations, has anyone ever taken this NY Times dialect quiz?

It's super accurate (for me at least) and really interesting to see some of the different crazy terms I've never heard before.

Too funny! I have never seen this anywhere other than the Outer Banks, and they're called Brew Thru there. But VA doesn't have traditional liquor stores, only state-run ABC stores. So my results give me Richmond first (where I grew up and currently live), Virginia Beach (where DH is from) and then Charlotte, NC.

LOL-frightengly accurate for the past 30 or so years (apparently I scrubbed the midwestern out of me early). To the point that I knew a brew through (high school tips to Nags Head area) and college blow off course (was accurately in Texas undergrad and med school) but essentially Southern near Mobile/Tallahassee. Fun but slightly disconcerting.

I'm still waiting for the second denial letter for DH's CIP (the only one apparently who got denied). I'm tempted to wait 2 weeks until April 1 and reapply (this time I will do it, correctly). Does that seem like a reasonable strategy or would y'all wait longer?

PS- y'all is plural not singular. My pet peeve is when Yankees try to use it and do so incorrectly.

What I find interesting is they only ask 25 questions, but if you take it again you get different questions. So it's kind of random what you'll get each quiz. My page froze when I went to submit the first time so I have no idea yet where I'm from, but I find it fascinating trying to figure out how I pronounce something to match it to an answer and figuring out how someone else pronounces it from the other answers.

I had to try it out a couple times to figure out I rhyme it with "boy" - "loy-er". But I say "law" so I guess I should be rhyming it with "flaw" but nope, not so much :)

I put in my CIP app on Friday, had a doozy of a weekend and didn't check on it at all. New card has shown up in my chase biz account! I SMed this morning and got the card expedited and I have until 5.10.19 to make the spend on the bonus. Off to the races...

Its exciting, because I think I've got enough of a UR/United point stash to get our flights for Europe next year, so new URs mean potential new trips :o)

Congrats party:

I've never been to a Drive-thru luquor store, but so many kids growing up wore Brew-thru shirts that I had to pick that as my answer. Between that and my use of the term sneakers the quiz decided I am from Arlington. I guess that's their compromise for someone born in NJ but raised in Virginia and who has spent the last 15 years in Florida haha.

We actually called them coaster classes when I was growing up. That wasn't an option on the quiz! A quick Google search of "college coaster class" brings up a Roller Coaster Design syllabus, so this must be a hyper-localized term.

Also!

"Y'all" is plural, but we also say "All y'all." If addressing a large group of people but you only want to single out a few people from the larger group, "y'all" is appropriate. But if you're talking to the entire group, "all y'all" gets the point across.

We're weirdos.

Yes! I noticed it had 25 questions, but it actually stopped me and gave me results after question 17. That question was about the drive-through liquor store! I guess that's so region-specific, the quiz defaults to "Ok, we've seen enough."

You- singular
Y'all- 2-4 people
All y'all- 5+ people

I know although somehow all y'all just doesn't flow from my mouth as easily (maybe that's my midwestern birth?).
My DH is from California and I won't even let him say y'all. It just sounds so wrong from him. I'm like, I love you, but no, just no.

That's really interesting! I took it again after someone mentioned getting different questions and I got to 25 on both of them and had the Brew Thru one on both.

You get it.

My previously mentioned British exchange student friend ended up staying in Virginia for about 4 years. Have you ever heard someone with a British accent say y'all? Absolutely hysterical.

OMG, I was trying to figure out if we just made up the "all y'all" because I looked it up once to see where it was used and didn't get many hits. But, yes, I use that a bunch. "Go pick up all y'all's stuff out of the {wherever} before someone sees it." Or "All y'all got me thinking about this card bonus..."

Don't know where it came from, but born and raised from several generations of Pennsylvanians and never left PA.

Yes, I had to explain to a friend here in DC exactly why I was saying "all you all," thus the explanation of a big group.

I've taken the dialect quiz before and it always pegs me right on.

Anyone up for weighing in on my indecisive Disney planning saga?

I had a bounceback booked for our trip in July - Garden View room at POR for $208/night. I was swept up in the Free Dining frenzy, cancelled my BB offer and booked the same room type at POR with the Free Dining offer. Original cost was ~$4,700, BUT I have to call because it won't let me change DS1's age on the computer, and he will turn 10 in May. So I expect the price to go up a few hundred dollars. My plan is to pay for the trip using discounted GC and possibly cash out URs.

Now I'm having cold feet about; 1. POR and 2. Free Dining. Like many of you here, i prefer to MAXIMIZE. So, even though DH and DS1 have requested Sci-Fi, I'm having a hard time booking it since I know it's a terrible value on the DDP. This is why we rarely do the DDP - although I do appreciate the convenience. I feel pressure to get the most out of the dining plan. We've never stayed at POR before (only POP, and the boys and I stayed at FQ in November). I'm a little intimidated by the size of POR and the internal bus stops, especially after @disneymagicgirl 's review a few days ago. Here are the options I'm now considering:

  • CSR in the brand new tower (standard view) for $1,659 + UT 6 day tickets ($1,693 for base, $1,956 for PH)
  • CSR in a preferred room $1,854 + UT 6 day tickets ($1,693 for base, $1,956 for PH)
  • Leave it alone and stay at POR
We've never had PHs before, but when I told DH we would have them this time, he was looking forward to that. So, I think I will probably keep them. The boys and I stayed at FQ in November and I LOVED the theme there and the boat to DS. I definitely want to stay at a moderate, since this will be a laid back trip and we want to spend time at the pool. Switching to CSR would also open me up to being able to grab a Priceline deal closer to time for a deluxe if one pops up. I don't think I could do that having a package booked if it's after the 60 day mark for FPs - but maybe I'm wrong on that?

I need to figure this out pretty soon to see if I need to switch gears and not obtain anymore Disney GCs. Right now, I have $1,425 in Disney GC that I obtained for $1,016, or a 29% savings (some of that discount is increased due to free SB VGCs). That amount can go to dining and other expenses if I choose to ditch my free dining package.

Do you mean July 10th? 5/10 would be less than 60 days BUT 7/10 would be 115 days from yesterday... :)

No, I took the super speedy MSR version - you get 2x the 80k points that way! Kidding - yes, I'm being a little calendar challenged this morning. 7.10.19 for the CIP. P2s United spend has to be done by 5.10.19. I told you this weekend was a doozy :rotfl:

Same here :(

I did get a Caribe Royal Orlando offer, don't know anything about the place, but ya know, Orlando :)
Get a one-time $50 statement credit by using your enrolled Card to spend a minimum of $250+ on room rate and room charges at Caribe Royale Orlando from 3/18/19 to 9/18/19

And a couple new restaurant ones as far as I can tell. They all start looking a like and I can't remember what's new and what was there before.
I got that one, but DH didn't and he's actually going to be staying there for a conference. I guess I'll just have to go down with him to pay his hotel bill. Lol. He did get the Rosen Shingle creek which I didn't get.

First I'd like to say 'thanks' for the news section on reddit...since I'm struggling to keep up daily here (IRL super busy) I love the quick check I can do for anything noteworthy..... second- a while back I got an offer to re-sign up for costco membership using autorenew, and they offered a $20 gc.....I still haven't gotten a gc for that, any info from someone here on that offer?

We had a beautiful, sunny, 70° weekend here in San Francisco, but our entire family was knocked out and bedridden by some nasty bug my kiddo brought home from school. I’ve been nursing my two ladies while self-medicating to keep my headache and sore throat at bay. Not at 100%.

I was reading all the post in haste to catch up and had to read this twice. Initially I thought you were talking about bed bugs. :scared: :rotfl2: Don't ask, I have no clue how I got this so confused. I hope all is well today.
