I completely understand. It's funny because when Dh got there he was like, "It's so warm here!" and it was chilly there today :rotfl2:

I went for a solo day at Epcot yesterday, and texted my DH that I may have to buy a jacket or sweatshirt because it was chilly! But I'm a born and bred Florida girl with thin skin, so I usually wear a jacket/long sleeves for anything under 80 :smooth:

No, I took the super speedy MSR version - you get 2x the 80k points that way! Kidding - yes, I'm being a little calendar challenged this morning. 7.10.19 for the CIP. P2s United spend has to be done by 5.10.19. I told you this weekend was a doozy :rotfl:
No worries - I just wanted to confirm because anytime somebody can provide good dates it "re-confirms" the 115 day period (which your DP confirms that too).

I've taken the dialect quiz before and it always pegs me right on.

Anyone up for weighing in on my indecisive Disney planning saga?

I had a bounceback booked for our trip in July - Garden View room at POR for $208/night. I was swept up in the Free Dining frenzy, cancelled my BB offer and booked the same room type at POR with the Free Dining offer. Original cost was ~$4,700, BUT I have to call because it won't let me change DS1's age on the computer, and he will turn 10 in May. So I expect the price to go up a few hundred dollars. My plan is to pay for the trip using discounted GC and possibly cash out URs.

Now I'm having cold feet about; 1. POR and 2. Free Dining. Like many of you here, i prefer to MAXIMIZE. So, even though DH and DS1 have requested Sci-Fi, I'm having a hard time booking it since I know it's a terrible value on the DDP. This is why we rarely do the DDP - although I do appreciate the convenience. I feel pressure to get the most out of the dining plan. We've never stayed at POR before (only POP, and the boys and I stayed at FQ in November). I'm a little intimidated by the size of POR and the internal bus stops, especially after @disneymagicgirl 's review a few days ago. Here are the options I'm now considering:

  • CSR in the brand new tower (standard view) for $1,659 + UT 6 day tickets ($1,693 for base, $1,956 for PH)
  • CSR in a preferred room $1,854 + UT 6 day tickets ($1,693 for base, $1,956 for PH)
  • Leave it alone and stay at POR
We've never had PHs before, but when I told DH we would have them this time, he was looking forward to that. So, I think I will probably keep them. The boys and I stayed at FQ in November and I LOVED the theme there and the boat to DS. I definitely want to stay at a moderate, since this will be a laid back trip and we want to spend time at the pool. Switching to CSR would also open me up to being able to grab a Priceline deal closer to time for a deluxe if one pops up. I don't think I could do that having a package booked if it's after the 60 day mark for FPs - but maybe I'm wrong on that?

I need to figure this out pretty soon to see if I need to switch gears and not obtain anymore Disney GCs. Right now, I have $1,425 in Disney GC that I obtained for $1,016, or a 29% savings (some of that discount is increased due to free SB VGCs). That amount can go to dining and other expenses if I choose to ditch my free dining package.

How many days? Would you spend $900 on foood? I just stayed at CSR I didn’t pay for a preferred room but we were in building 4 right by bus stop 2 which was the first stop for the parks. We didn’t mind it. I really thought the internal bus system would be annoying, but it really wasn’t an issue and I’d stay at CSR again. Way better than pop in my opinion.

Feeling like the old uncle at thanksgiving who picks up a conversation that ended an hour ago, but the way the gov rates is that they stay steady throughout the year. So, likely a good deal when demand is high, not a good deal when the hotel is discounting rooms. The idea is that the gov provides steady business, and employees may need to be somewhere when rates would otherwise be exorbitant, so it all evens out. Typically there are a fixed number of rooms at the gov rate.

Yes, I get it. What I've experienced is that when rates are exorbitant there are no gov rates unless they were high to begin with. I've followed hotel rates on several chains for years, IHG, SPG, Radisson, and occasionally Hilton - but I am new to Marriott.

With all the talk of different pronunciations, has anyone ever taken this NY Times dialect quiz?

It's super accurate (for me at least) and really interesting to see some of the different crazy terms I've never heard before.
Ok 1) this got me exactly right...

2) I'm adding this to the news thread...because although totally off topic, it has dominated our conversation today and been fun :)

I know although somehow all y'all just doesn't flow from my mouth as easily (maybe that's my midwestern birth?).
My DH is from California and I won't even let him say y'all. It just sounds so wrong from him. I'm like, I love you, but no, just no.
My dh was born in CA but in TX from age 10. He never says “y’all”. I’d have to smack him if he did. It would just sound so wrong!

Just lowered my Chase business credit limits and want input on my application speed (in the eyes of this board at least) before I try for my second CIP:

Overall: 4/24
Chase Cards:
02/17 CSR
02/18 Disney
03/18 Freedom
06/18 CIP
12/18 CIC

Am I going too fast or does this seem ok to apply? I don't want to rush, but also don't want to risk my relationship with Chase as I plan to keep my personal cards for the foreseeable future. Thanks!

I think you are fine....looks like it’s 3 months from your last application...

Most distinctive answer: what do you call the small road parallel to the highway? Feeder road

A what?! Never heard it called that. We don't have them in my area, but I've heard it referred to as a service road or an access road.

You don't say y'all in Texas?!

This seems like an obvious question, but if I take the upgrade offer on my SPG personal, I should be able to use my current card immediately towards the spend right?

I think people said to wait until the card changed in the portal, otherwise it might not count towards the requirements. I think it only takes a day or so for it to update.

I received an e-mail this morning that Living Social has Busch Gardens Williamsburg one-day tickets for $49.99 good for use through June 30. I know we've talked about Williamsburg here before but couldn't remember if anyone had actually committed to going. I would move fast on these tickets if you're interested as they usually sell out quickly.
I saw that too. I wish it were for Tampa:)
