This Is Us- Season 3

I was trying to see if Beth had her wedding ring on at the beginning...than at the end they showed so we know they are fine. Loved Deja’s speech, she did sound like Randall.

I too wondered where Kate was , when they called Toby ,he was in bed alone. Happy to know Jack made it. Not sure why the baby came home so early though...to throw us off until the end.

I figured Nicky would show up again, yes where is Miguel.

Not sure what the accident meant, there must be something to it.

Another one I will have to rematch. Just talked to my sister and she thought the house they were in at the end was Kevin’s...what did I miss or is she wrong?

Yes, it was Kevin's house. Toby said, "Kevin's house is huge" when he came in, pointing to the fact that he had not been there before. Another little clue that he and Kate are no longer together. But, is she dead? He said, "I just talked to jack and they are on the way over." That could be Jack and Kate or Jack and anyone.

I totally missed that thanks. That is why I have to re watch it because you catch stuff I miss...lol

The fact that Toby has never seen Kevin’s house, I don’t think necessarily means him and Kate are no longer together. Maybe Kevin just bought the house or Toby and Kate moved back to the east coast at some point. I do agree they r hinting that Toby and Kate are no longer together, but I think it’s still possible they are. I’m wondering if Nicky and Rebecca end up getting together at some point since he is sitting there at her side.

I thinks she believes Nicky is Jack. He could just be there providing comfort at this end-of-life stage.

Just an average episode to me until the last five minutes or so which I knew would need to be watched closely to try to catch every detail. I think I'll probably purchase this one on Amazon to rewatch.

Thoughts:

So glad that Beth and Randall make it work - buying the place in Philly as others here have suggested. Now Beth gets to have her own studio and make more of a difference. You could see she wasn't satisfied and could see Randall's point about teaching bored housewives when the owner asked her to take over that Sunday class. The episode also showed that Deja is a strong and smart girl and they don't need to worry so much about her dealing with the transition of moving. Loved her "Randall" speech.

Pretty predictable that Rebecca ended up with dementia or Alzheimer's. I think reading interviews with the writers or actors sometimes takes away from the show since they build it up so much as being something shocking or something you've never seen on television before... yeah, not so much. But still a really sad ending for that character for sure.

It's good that Zoey realized that she and Kevin shouldn't be together in the long run since they differ on wanting kids. Saves them both more heartache in the end. I think Kevin probably ends up with Sophie. Her comment about him getting whatever he wants makes me think that he can still have her if he wants, even though she's engaged now. Also cool to see his son in the future and wonder if he has any other kids.

I think the writers are trying to make us think that Toby and Kate aren't together in the future, but I bet (hope) they are.

So happy to see that baby Jack survived!

Mystery going into the next season also about what happened to Miguel and how Nicky came to be there for Rebecca.

Glad they ended the season strongly - I read that this episode marks the mid-point in the series.

ETA: forgot a couple of other thoughts I had while watching. Too funny how even at a young age Kevin was flirting with the nurse at the hospital. Also, that speech from Jack about Rebecca being the "engine" that made the family work and also watching him struggle to feed the kids and everything made me think about how it would have been if Rebecca was the one who died young and not him... even though the kids were about out of high school at that point. It highlighted how important Rebecca was in their lives when most of the episodes have centered around Jack.

Ok, I closed my eyes til I got to the bottom of the comments so I haven’t seen anything. I give you my pinkie swear that I know NOTHING about this episode.

I wonder if *heaven forbid* little Jack is on life support and Toby is the one to decide to pull the plug. This would be awful and so sad and too far for tv, in my opinion, BUT it would explain why Kate wasn’t around in the flash forward and why he would be unsure if ‘her’ (Rebecca) wouldn’t want to see him. For the record, I 100% hope I’m wrong.

• I’m confused..is this a memory future Beth is having or what’s really going on for present Beth?

• I rewound and it’s hard to see if future Beth is wearing a ring. It’s like they’re keeping her hand hidden on purpose.

• YAY BABY JACK

• I don’t like this foreshadowing with Rebecca and the notes

• uh oh..Beth doesn’t look like she wants to try too hard on healing

• Here comes overbearing Rebecca

• lol at Bloxkbuster not going anywhere

• mm hmm brain damage

• corn sandwiches? I love corn, I love sandwiches, I don’t love corn sandwiches

• omg he’s so gorgeous lol (Kevin)

• oof that’s what Randall said to her (about teaching bored housewives wanting to lose 10 lb)

• wow, Déjà showing maturity.

• wow, Randall. They’re both going to quit their jobs at the same time. Oh Randall, don’t do it.

• he wants kids..

• OH NO it’s a real life O. Henry story!! They need to talk to each other ASAP

• she’s willing to give it all up for him, and he’s willing to give it all up for her. Make some nachos and share them!!

• OMG did you guys get a commercial for the movie Breakthrough? That’s the one my dad is in!!!

• and here comes the break up. Kevin will keep trying to get Zoe to change her mind, and she’s having no part of it.

• HAHA Kevin the big flirt..I’m sorry, I don’t know wht that is

• good for Randall for realizing all this. (That the situation is too much and they can’t make it work)

• OMG! Chills! What a perfect idea for Beth

• ok, so, YAY jack makes it to adulthood. Keven possibly becomes super famous because that house is insane

• HOLY CRAP KEVINS A DAD

• if I could swear I’d be saying ***??!?! NICKY??

• that final shot of Rebecca is heartbreaking. Clearly she has Alzheimer’s or dementia or something.

• Why isn’t Miguel around? Maybe he died and that’s why Rebecca is with Kevin. Does she hook up with Nicky? That would be so gross.

• so. many. questions.

Ill have to watch this a few more times to have it really sink in. I hope we get to see grown Jack next season. It’s nice that the writers let us know he lives, without giving anything else away.

Summer is going to draaaaaag.

Rebecca does not have alzheimers. Mandy Moore has stated in several interviews that Rebecca does not have alzheimers disease. I think she is just at end of life and in and out of consciousness.

I don't think the accident has any real significance. Many think that she suffered some undetected injury that is plaguing her now. I think the accident was just to show that she was the glue that held them all together. She is the matriarch of the family and she is about to pass. I think it was showing the impact that it will have on them. They almost fell apart when she was away for one night. How will the cope now.

Not sure about Nicky. Don't get the feeling they had a romantic relationship. I feel he maybe became close with the family and maybe lived with Kevin. Kevin was the closest with Nicky and most concerned about him.

Love that Randall and Beth are together.

I think Toby and Kate broke up or Kate has died. Something about the way Randall said something like, "glad you could make it" kind of like it wasn't expected that he come, like it would be if he was still married to Kate. I am not sure how old Jack would be at this time, but maybe he is married and on his way with his wife.

Oh my gosh, I loved this episode!!!!!

Random thoughts as I watched and then read here:

Kevin gets the best "pearls of wisdom" lines - I loved his speech to Tess about gathering your pieces slowly.

And Deja is amazing!!

I love the way this show uses parallel scenes - the coffee, the packing...and I think that's what the accident stuff was about - not necessarily an injury from then haunting her now, but the "life repeats itself" reminder of them going to visit her in the hospital then and going to visit her now.

I thinks she believes Nicky is Jack. He could just be there providing comfort at this end-of-life stage.

I wondered that too.

OH NO it’s a real life O. Henry story!! They need to talk to each other ASAP

I generally hate O Henry stories  but I love that they were both willing to bend, but talked about it first. And I love that they're still together at the end.

And while I'm at it, I love that the writers gave us so much hope - we know Jack lives, we know Kevin has a son, etc.

It's too bad about Zoe. I did like her. But I think they made the right decision to end it.

Right now, I think it sounds like Kate and Toby have split up. That would explain why they wouldn't expect Toby to come...but then again, they made us think that about Beth and Randall, so I'm not going to fall apart too early on this one.

I also think Kevin winds up with Sophie. I think the scene in the hospital when they were talking to the nurse was foreshadowing. Kevin flirts with the pretty blonde nurse. The nurse looks a lot like sophie, so much so that I did a double take. Also, Sophie is a nurse. I think he settles down with her.

I loved the episode, but I need to rewatch it now that I know what happens.

I knew Randall and Beth would make it! :) They are just too good together even though they each have flaws.

I’m trying to figure how far in the future we are. I’m guessing about 20 years. That would make the Big 3 58 and Rebecca 88.

I can’t decide on Kate and Toby. I want them to still be together. They are definitely making it appear that they aren’t, but everything could be explained away that they are together, too.

It seems that Kevin and Rebecca are back East (or Randall, Beth, and Tess are on the West coast now), since they left work and just arrived at Kevin’s house without any travel. So did Toby fly in? Maybe Kate and Jack were already closer to Rebecca temporarily and Toby joined them. I think it’s good to keep some mystery there. I’m glad that they established that Jack is ok, and I hope that Kate is, too.

I think Miguel was there by Rebecca's side. When Randall first walked in he said something like Hi Miguel and there was someone sitting on a chair next to the bed. Then later they showed Nicky. Never mind I just rewatched it and he wasn't there!

.
I have an aunt who married her brother -in law . She lost her husband when her kids were small. She now has 3 kids from her first husband 3 from her husband now. They all call the second husband dad.

I too think Kevin married Sophie. Wonder if they have more kids? Wonder if the game was for them or it ends on the big 3 ‘s Birthday but that usually how the season starts.

Totally agree, I think people are looking for too much in the accident. This was my exact thoughts, it was once again the past showing parallel with the present.
That ending slayed me. I kinda figured it was going there, but still.
Loved Kevin and Tess and Deja is the best!!
So many little questions in that last couple minutes. I am thinking the they that is with Jack, is Kate. How old was Kevins kid, how old was he when he became a dad?? Of course, who is the mom, but not dying for a quick reveal on that. Where is Annie (or Deja) and why is Tess so affected by the situation?
I also loved Kate's conversation with Rebecca in her apartment.
I was glad to see Nicky, but I am curious how that happened.

Is Kevin a single father? His son said "Dad realized we didn't have any food". Where is Mom?

Is Kevin a single father?

I got that impression. - But then again, maybe they just didn't show mom so as not to give away too much at once? He could be married to another Hollywood star, who's staying at the west coast house right now on a shoot, while Kevin and son are at the east coast house.

I can’t decide on Kate and Toby. I want them to still be together. They are definitely making it appear that they aren’t, but everything could be explained away that they are together, too.

I just watched the aftershow and read some speculation on line. It's possible that Kate and Toby are OK, but they couldn't show Kate because her weight is going to change dramatically, and they didn't want to film the scene at the actress's current weight.

Another tidbit that isn't mine: The scene with Tess and Kevin about struggling to tell her friends might have set up a silver lining to the move. - She'll be able to meet new kids with her orientation out in the open from the start if she chooses to.

I had the same thought about Tess' situation. I was so glad Kevin filled her in that she's in the same boat as her peers as far as trying to figure things out.

I think Kevin's east coast house might explain the Kate and Toby situation also. It could be relatively new and Kate and Jack flew in earlier than Toby to see Rebecca and Toby stayed behind for work and is now joining the family.
