MK/Fantasyland “Early Morning Magic” (EMM) FAQ & Discussion

So I have a few questions from our experience for others who have done this. We have plans to do EMM again in July, and I would appreciate feedback from others who have done this.
1. Is EMM now a separate check-in line from dining reservations? If so, how many CMs are usually checking in? (Two did not feel adequate, although maybe it is faster when the tablets are functioning.)
2. Which way are people being routed around the castle for EMM?

Our experience was about 2 weeks before yours.

1. I think on our morning everyone was together? There were maybe half a dozen CMs with tablets, we encountered one that wasn’t working but the switched it out pretty fast to keep things moving. Ours was one of the days there were a lot of complaints about people with breakfast reservations managing to get EMM bracelets because there was a gap between the check in and the wrist band and they’d just wander up there. Possibly this new procedure is meant to stop that? But sounds like it needs some tweaking!

2. I asked about this when we checked in, because I thought I had heard it had changed. We were sent to the right of the castle, and I think most recent reports are the same.

Glad you had fun anyway! Lucky you made it ther so early.

Can anyone tell me if you use the regular line or fastpass line for Pooh? My daughter loves to play with all the little things in the standby line. We wouldn’t need long just a few minutes but she would be sad if she didn’t get to move the bees along the track etc.
We walked through the standby line and gave a few seconds to each game. Pooh was a walk-on, btw (or nearly, anyway), even on what was a high volume day (and perhaps even a high-volume EMM if 7DMT is an indicator). I noticed that 7DMT went back and forth between sending people through standby and fastpass. But as @ColoradoMom12 said, even if they're using FP I can't see them objecting to you walking through standby.

So I've read that a few of you did Space at RD and then Buzz. Do you think we have time to RD Space and then do Astro Orbiters before breakfast, or would we be cutting it too close? I have not ridden AO in 10 years!

My kid finally wants to ride Space, so I need a new strategy :D

Others' inclination and approach is probably different from ours, but unless people are veteran rope droppers I'd caution against RDing anything popular. In our case, as our EMM-only time petered out, we were finishing up Fantasyland, so we "rope-dropped" the carousel and the teacups, both of which were near walk-on, but were ca 40-min waits later in the day. We then took our time with breakfast, ca 9:30, and by the time we were done it was time for our Space Mtn FP. If you play your cards right and run a tighter ship than we did, EMM could certainly put you in an advantageous position to RD Space Mtn, but there's a risk you'd still be in an over-60' wait. RDing Astro Orbiter and FPing Space Mtn if you have the FP to spare sounds much more fun.
The other point here is that if you have your breakfast before RD you're losing some of the EMM exclusivity you've paid for. And if you RD Space Mtn at 9 and it takes an hour, you lose the breakfast you paid for.
Disclaimer, we were on a high-traffic day and I have no idea how long RD times might be for your visit. But signs point to "there are no more low-traffic times at WDW"...

We didn't have issues doing Thunder at RD back in September before they changed the format. I would think we would at least RD Space and then head to breakfast. We are going on July 7th.

I am trying not to use FP at MK that day, so I don't want to use one on Space.

Thanks for your reply! I think what we encountered in the check-in line was not normal. I hadn’t considered they might be implementing a new procedure to prevent people from sneaking to get a wristband. If so, it’s a good thing. I’ll be curious to continue reading trip reports from those who have upcoming trips. If this is a new procedure they’re implementing, hopefully they can get the details ironed out before our next trip in July. I wonder if it’s faster when the tablets are functioning. It was pretty crazy with two CMs checking a huge line of people off of a clipboard!

Thanks for the helpful info. DS8 has Space Mountain high on his list of things to do and I thought it would be easy to get to at RD. Luckily I was able to modify and get a 9am FP for the two of us. There was only 9am & 12:45 as we are 33 days out. Now if they want to stay in FL for an extra ride or two I wont be so stressed. Thanks again!

Quoted the incorrect post, sorry about that **facepalm**

I don't post here much so hello to all. I do have a question. I've been trying to book for September since last week. Speaking to two different CM's, I was told that Sept was opened, but then it was closed for booking, even though the dates are still up. I did see where this was mentioned earlier in the thread.

Has anyone found out any information regarding when they will reopen it? One CM was clear that the dates weren't sold out.

Thanks!

I've just been checking back every morning to see if I can book.

I’ve been combing the boards & the internet in general and no one seems to know. I’ve been checking for Sept 8th & Sept 10th since my ADR date opened & it keeps coming up “no tables available” even though the consensus is that it’s not sold out...they just stopped selling tickets for those dates for some unknown reason. The mystery continues...

When can we book EMM for September 1st, I called today and was told to call back mid month they are not booking yet. Is there. Typical time frame?

The dates in September seem to be in Disney limbo for now - a few people were able to book them when they were first released and then they seemed to have pulled booking. People who call get all sorts of answers- from sold out to not available yet - but from following here it seems to be unlikely to be full but apparently on hold for some unknown reason. If I were you I would check every morning and follow this thread.

I have been going back and forth about whether to book this. If I do, we would add a night to the beginning of our stay and do it the morning after we arrive. So that would mean added cost of hotel night, but I really wanted my little one to experience fantasyland without waiting in crazy long lines. At 2 years old she has zero patience. So far, 8/13 is still available and we need 5 tickets. I already booked EMM for TSL and super excited for that. Also booked HEA dessert party. I love ways to get out of the crowds!

Will someone just encourage me to bit the bullet and book it??? It means expanding the budget but I have 4 months to worry about that :)

I would definitely do it, as long as your spouse/SO is ok with adding the night! What I would do is book it while I decide, and then cancel if you don't decide to do it. Because I know how disappointed I would be to decide to do it, and then have it sell out. (I haven't been following if these sell out, though, I just know the DHS ones do. So maybe if they don't typically sell out it would be a risk worth taking). We added a night on to the end of our trip last fall to do the DHS one, so I speak from experience
