WDW's 50th Celebration…Who's going??

Hi all! I know this may seem weird and a long way off, but as a DVC member I need to plan at least a couple trips ahead so I make sure I have enough points.

I definitely want to be there for the 50th anniversary of WDW, which is obviously October 1, 2021. I would also like to go a couple other times if there are special celebrations happening. I was kind of thinking they may celebrate leading up to it and all year, but now seeing that they are celebrating Mickey's 90th the year following his birthday, I'm not so sure.

Do you all think there will be more of a celebration between October 1, 2021-October 1, 2022, or will there be more of a celebration leading up to October 1, 2021?

Hmmm... that's a good question. I had been thinking more 2021. We were not planning to return to WDW until early Spring 2022 in order to avoid the 50th Anniversary crowds. Now you are making me wonder, though. Maybe in 2020 they will announce some of their celebration plans so that we have a better idea for planning?

When we were at POFQ in October 2018 the greeter was talking to my son about remembering our time there and inviting us to come back in the future. He was especially talking about how 2021 was going to be a very special year in Disney because of the anniversary. So based on that and just the fact that the actual anniversary is 2021 I thought that 2021 would be the year of the anniversary activities. One thing that makes me think my theory could be wrong is even though Mickey's birthday was late 2018.....they are doing most things to celebrate it in the park in 2019. We are most likely going back in 2022 so hoping it won't be totally packed then.

I visited in October 1996 which was the 25th anniversary and if I remember correctly the party was just getting started and ran for at least another year.

So maybe something similar? But it’s a different time so who knows.

I do have a T-shirt with that gross cake on it that I plan on wearing for the 50th....

Remember, back in the 90s there was no Facebook, no social media, and Disney was different back in the 90s...

The Internet was in its infancy too...so.... I think you can look at what DL did for their 60th, which started before the actual day. They ran contests and had memorabilia before and after the day, for at least a year plus...

I was in DL the year of their 60th (October) and there were in park contests and website contests. Lots of memorabilia!

I expect WDW’s 50th will be bigger then Mickey’s birthday.

We will be there. We are planning late sept trip ending in early Oct...we are going with a few adult couples and share a vip tourguide...

I’m really tempted to be there on 10/1/21...DH May kill me
We are planning the same...staying at the Contemporary, so we can just walk back to the hotel at the end of the night.

We will be booking room only the day it becomes available, which I saw posted that you can book room only 499 days ahead, so that would be in May, next year.

I think our group is planning for 10-1-2021 - I feel like it will be crowded yet memorable!
For the past 2 years I've been saying I will be there on 10-1-21 no matter what as I always miss the day of the big WDW celebrations.
But over the last half year or so a creeping feeling has developed that it would be a very, very bad time for someone like me who loves to find a corner from which to view the action, but not be trampled or crushed by it. I think January '22 might be the best option for low crowds.

That's awesome!

Does anyone know what DL did for the 60th? Were all the celebration events after July 17, 2015??

We went to DL in very early June of 2015 and the celebration was in full swing! Castle decorated, tons of merchandise etc.
