This Is Us- Season 3

Absolutely - my wife and I often don't even have to say anything to each other in certain situations. Often, a simple look between us conveys that we both know exactly what we're thinking.

Little late in catching up on episodes - my wife and I usually watch them together, but she's been in India for business (and I'm gone next week when she's back), so I finally just decided to watch them, figuring she would catch up next week as well.

Good finale - it did what you'd expect. Answer some questions and toss out some new ones for next season.

Ironic, we watch together and usually watch a day or two later. We actually watched live this week.

I enjoyed it -- and breathed a sigh of relief Beth and Randall stepped back from the chasm. The glimpse of Nicky answered some doubts I had lingering from earlier this season and now I'm content to sit back and let the story unfold. I'm in no rush to pick up at that bedside anytime soon and have any of those questions answered yet. Of course I also didn't want them to fill in the details about Jack earlier on because I realized it limited the stories we'd see with him and the family. This season largely proved that (sadly) true. Even the glimpse we had of William reminded me how sad it is that there are very limited ways he might be seen again.

Ok, this one is WAY OUT THERE, but hear me out. I keep thinking about the actress who plays Kate saying they are going to have a storyline that has never been done on TV before. So far everything we have seen does not fit that description. NICU has been done before, all the other trials and tribulations of the characters have been done before as well. So, what if, and this is way out on a limb, they will be the first TV show to have a death with dignity storyline. Maybe that's why they are all gathered on this particular day by Rebecca's beside. Maybe there is a living will that states these are her wishes as a result of being diagnosed at some point with something major.

California does have laws protecting physician-assisted end of life. Now that would be something we have never seen before. Mandy Moore did say in an interview that when she read how Rebecca ultimately ends the series she was taken aback and said, "oh, Rebecca" but then resigned herself to the outcome after thinking about it.

I love mysteries, can you tell?

My memory is a bit fuzzy on the specifics, but I believe we were given the information that Kevin's incredibly big house in the flash forward is on the east coast, not in Cali.

For me, there's plenty of current and past timelines I'd like to explore before heading back to that house and that bedside.

I must have missed something in the finale that indicated where the big house was? In the pilot episode, Kevin was in a house on the beach somewhere in LA, but I think he's been living out of hotels and family member's houses all the other episodes since?

Another theory is that Kate has died, Toby can't raise Jack on his own (or at all) because of his crippling depression, and Kevin steps in to raise him with Rebecca's help. When Toby says he talked to Jack and they are on the way, he could mean Jack and Kevin. Kevin did say to baby Jack in the finale that he would be there "all the time." Another clue, perhaps.

Greys Anatomy had an episode about death with dignity. Sara Gilbert was the patient

That's what I was implying earlier. It could be.

Oh ok, I was thinking you were implying a medical person would assist with her suicide, not one of her kids. I have a feeling whatever it is it has been done before. I can't think of anything TV hasn't done lol.

That's what next season is all about, according to the series creator. Filling in all the holes that lead to the end.

I didn't catch anything indicating what state they were in. I assumed California.

I assumed from the looks of the house it was California. Randall said he was picking Tess up from Newark though, so that was what stood out to me and made me think the house is on the east coast.

Seeing Nicky sitting there at the bedside made me realize we're going to pick that thread back up again. Not so sure next season is going to fill it all in to the flash forwards. I had heard that this week marked the halfway point of the series. Can't say that's absolutely correct, but it seems like maybe there's a couple more seasons where we'll have questions answered and new stones unturned to make us wonder before they wrap it all up.

Maybe Nicky will be assisting with it. He has medical training from Vietnam. He might have gone back to that field when he cleaned his life up.

Someone on this thread awhile ago said that the creators have stated the show was originally designed to go 6 seasons - that they may have had at least a rough idea of how each season would play out.

Look at the three kids on the game box.

Wow, I bet that's why they needed to get that specific game.
They could literally tell her "This is Us" when they show her the game box at the end. And then they play one last game of pin the the tail on the donkey like they always played on their birthday. It might be their last birthday with their mom.

One theory I read was about was that the whole show was Kevin making a movie about their lives. He did it to show her so she would remember that, "this is us" and would play it for her to remember. I thought that was kind of cool.
I love that theory.
