Need a Recommendation on Portable Propane Grill For Camper

Plus it has two burners so if I want to heat one side hot to cook on and leave the other side low to keep things warm I can play that game.

@bama_ed you will really like the ability to control the heat on each side. Seems to play a part in everything I cook on the Blackstone.

Look forward to seeing some griddle food pics. Who knows......we may need to start a camping food picture thread. :thumbsup2:thumbsup2

The small grill was way bigger then expected. Just a warning if you get the bigger one!

Just an idea of the size. Obviously only the middle will be hot. I know stove is a mess just cooked dinner after working 40 hours stright.

Yes the dimensions for the 17 are about 18 inches square.

The dimensions for the 22 are 22 by 19 inches.

Again, the few extra inches (and pounds) get me more flexibility. Plus I have plenty of room in my Suburban. :teeth:

I get it's not small like my backpacking stove.

Gonna commute to my designated work location tomorrow and will stop by that WM nearby to see it for real.

Ill season it this week and cook something on it. It does look to be of good quality. And plenty big for 3 or 4 campers. I definitly could feed a party from the smaller one. I do have space in the TV but i like to have all the caping crap in the camper. Makes my life eaisier. Its pretty compact but feels like it weighs more then its listed. Maybe im just used to crappy throw away appliances?

Ok , review time. Lol.
1) grill heated up fast
2) worked great, click igniter worked 1st time
3) cooked even, in the middle. The sides were good to keep stuff hot
4) clean up wasnt bad at all, i did cook some Chinese style pork, so i used sugger and honey. It did burn to a mess. But with a little water ( quarter cup) it all came off clean. I do need a bigger spatula and a grill scraper. ( i used what i had it made it harder). I made something i could make at a campground. The pork can be frozen with the marinade, rice can be boil in bags, marinade can then be cooked down for the sauce and the pepers, onions, and mushrooms can be chopped on site or at home.
Grilling conditions were windy, while this probably effected the heat, it still cooked very well.
I'm impressed. Ed i will make you Itallian hot dogs one day!

That's a promise I'm going to remember, Sjm9911! ::yes::

I bit the bullet today and got the combo pack with the 22" griddle. I'll season the top this weekend. Prolly won't post any food pix (and yours were impressive). But I will try it out before I head to Gulf State Park for our DIS Meet later this month.

PS - I did spring for the accessory pack (2 squeeze bottles, two spatulas (one vented), and a scraper/cutter). And a steaming dome/lid.

PPS - finding flaxseed oil was harder than I expected (1 bottle) but plan to cook with olive oil (my-go-to) in the second bottle. What do you use (or Jets70 or anyone else? I read flax seed is good for keeping the griddle top oiled and cleaned but I don't see it mentioned to cook with.

I just seasoned it with vegetable oil. I cook with olive and vegetable oil. Depends on what im doing. Frying in olive oil is not good, it dosent heat up as fast and burns . This in turn is not healthy, something to do with the burnt oil. Sauteing in oilive oil is good, so ill use mostly that , but for cooking meat vegetable oil. I think anything is good for seasoning, the more you cook on it the better it will get!
Yes the assosories will make cleaning easy! Now i have to buy more stuff.

Good advice. I don't do any frying mostly stir-fry and using veggie oil is good to know - it's my back-up and primary baking oil.

And yes, the combo box is HEAVY but I picked the least-damaged one out of the Wal-Mart racks. They had a 22 set up on the included table on the rack which looked nice with the lid. I hope with the lid I can leave it outside for days while set up at a campsite.

If I'm going to Gulf, I'm going to have to experiment there cooking more fish and shrimp on the griddle and the yummy things that go with it. I would treasuring going out every afternoon to get some seafood and fresh veggies for that night. And will have to visit Bon Secour (Billy's Seafood) for serious considerations (think Bubba Gump seafood fresh off the boat at the dock). About 20 minutes from GSP - Bon Secour (french for "Safe Harbour") Bay opens to Mobile Bay which opens to the Gulf.

I'm salivating already.....

Well at least I got the griddle top seasoned today (no cooking due to the rain we had today).

Here is the griddle on the portable stand (which is almost as heavy as the griddle itself). Legs not extended though.

Close up of the patina. Not sticky at all.

Gonna post these over in the Gulf Dismeet 4 thread where there will be more to come.

I have a bottle of Flaxseed oil I used for the initial seasoning. I also use it to wipe down with after cleaning before I put it away. I believe I did have to order it online.

@bama_ed I always use olive oil with mine. Seems to work well with most all that I fix on the Blackstone with the exception of using bacon grease when making breakfast :thumbsup2:thumbsup2

Frank just walked up to me pointed to the Camping World flyer and said we need one of these. Blackstone griddle. Thanks Ed, now I don't have to do the leg work to find if it's the best brand to buy or not.

Randy if I strapped that to the top of the Aliner, I'd be tempted to turn it on and FLY there.

That's a model of a commercial passenger jet engine made by Pratt & Whitney (their eagle logo is on the nacelle on the left). Coincidently, Pratt & Whitney was the first company I worked for out of college near West Palm Beach, FL but on their military jet engine design side. Know the logo and love it. When I'm at an airport I look out at the planes lined up at the gate searching for the eagle logo on the nacelles.

Depending what side of the plane the engine is on, the eagle either faces left or right. But he is ALWAYS facing the front of the plane.

I'd hate to roll onto the scales with THAT strapped on top, Randy. Good find.

My CW flyer just came in the mail yesterday and I was looking at the same thing. If that Blackstone would fit in my outside kitchen, I'd get it. The trailer came with a little Coleman grill on a pull out tray. It is small and just fits. No way the Blackstone would make it without some serious mods.

I intend to examine Ed's at GSP. My current grill has some life left, but I do not like flame ups which is why I use the Holland at home, but it is old, still working, but I'm afraid the road trips are going to shorten its life. My outdoor kitchen has large amount of counter space but I keep my grill in the front storage compartment as it is vented, thus keeping the smell out of the camper. My outdoor kitchen has the small grill, similar I believe to Jim's. I really would of preferred the two burner cooktop, and I actually could swap it out, but the cooktop is $80 and then I'd have a small grill with nothing to do with so I am actually looking into a griddle plate possibly to set on top of it and use. I have this fireman's fear of an attached grill and a flame up burning down my rig.
