May W.I.S.H. Goals-A Little Bit of Mayhem

Hi! I am here. It was a busy week and weekend. I had 2 doctors appointments on Wednesday, May dad came in town on Thursday and then we had my sons birthday party this weekend. There were some highs and lows.

I found out Thursday that I no longer have any antibodies to Measels and the mumps but Rubella is good so I need a booster. Also, my bad chloesteral is slightly high. They same as 2 years ago. I do need to get in 30 minutes of cardio 5 days a week and what more of what I eat. Dad is doing good. He came into town so we could all see him and see that he is doing good.

DD is hanging in there. She is back in the boot and on crutches. This surgery seems so far away but is coming quickly all at the same time.

I would love a treadmill-my husband is resistant though. Sigh. And he’s right, we can join the gym for free, but I would love watching all those old movies I recorded and walking at home.

Having the right food in the house makes such a huge difference! What’s that old expression? “If you fail to plan, you plan to fail.”

Mowing the lawn is an excellent workout! Do you keep track of your steps? You will be amazed!
I do track my steps and you're right it does add up. It'll also help my May exercise minutes which are behind at this point.

Ok, I know it's not Woohoo Wednesday yet. But I had to come here to share with people who are going through this journey with me. A little background first...I hate running. In high school (long ago), I was a 3 sport athlete. And even then, I hated any type of long distance running (even just the mile). And back then, it wasn't because I couldn't do it. I just didn't enjoy it. I preferred sprinting back and forth on the court to play basketball or running around the bases in softball. And the last time I tried to run long distance, it was to train for the 5K on Castaway Cay during our Disney Cruise (a special trip for my husband's and my 40th birthday). For that, I had to use the Couch to 5K app, which has you alternate between running and walking as you build up your endurance. WELL, I guess it's thanks to the workouts I've been doing since joining these groups in January, but I went for my first run today with my husband (who eats terribly, but runs 3-5 miles 3 times a week) and....I ran 2 miles fairly easily! I started out with a goal of just running 1 mile. But I felt pretty good and wanted to keep going. First I thought maybe I could get to 1.5 miles. But once I was there, I just wanted to keep going to get to 2 miles.

So just to reiterate todays point...start with one little change and you might just surprise yourself! :thumbsup2

The bathroom scale-friend or foe?

When I was trying to lose weight I admit I gave the number on that scale way too much power. Down a pound-yay! Up a pound? Even if I did exactly what I did the week before? It was enough to dampen the rest of my day. I would go over my week looking for where I slipped up. I usually came to the conclusion that if I ate any less I wouldn’t be fit to live with-and to just keep plugging on. And sure enough, the next week I would have another loss and life was good again. But I hated that I was so wrapped up in the numbers on that scale.

Do you weigh yourself every day? Once a week? Does that number have the power to make or break your day?

Now that I am maintaining, I try not to get on the scale more than once a week-because I know in my head fluctuations can depend on so many different things.

But I recently came across an article that recommended weighing in daily-that it keeps you from letting your weight creep back up. They noted that college freshman that weigh themselves every day did not gain their first year.

Here’s the link:

Edit-I can’t seem to get the link to work, but it will load typing it in my browser. Sorry!

That’s wonderful! Two miles!
That deserves dancing bananas!

@MickeyMom76 excellent!! Good job! :woohoo:

@Flossbolna wahoo!

I haven't made any daily changes in a while. I switched to oatmeal and blueberries and yogurt for weekday breakfast a few years ago. I've been tracking my food and steps for a couple years. I record them and tally them up at the end of the month. I've added weights back into my life, but that's not daily.

I have to tell you guys that I have an angel food cake in the oven right now and my house smells sooooo goood! Tomorrow is teacher appreciation day so we are bringing in desserts. I'm going quasi healthy with angel food cake and strawberries.

I do weigh myself almost every day and I always do it first thing in the morning (its part of the routine). In the beginning, I would sometimes get frustrated with that number. But now I'm just using it so I don't go back up to where I was. I didn't get a chance to read the article yet, but it sounds like my mentality. I try to use the scale to monitor my weight and keep me within a certain range.

Thank you for taking the time to bake and show your appreciation to your teachers. As a teacher, I appreciate all the parents who partner with me in educating their children. And I also appreciate the treats brought in, especially during this week. It is often hard to resist the homemade baked goods when I walk into the faculty room. So angle food cake with strawberries is a great option!!:lovestruc

I am a weigh every day person. I tried to do the weekly weigh in, not weigh at all and all kind of other things. I always come back to weighing daily. I even have a wifi scale that automatically synchronises with its app (as well as with my other fitness apps, i.e. MyFitnessPal and the Garmin Connect app). The good thing is that I can see long term trends not just the current number. But sometimes I find it very disheartening. I always fluctuate, sometimes by 4 to 5 pounds and it can be difficult to figure out what is really going on. Still, weighing regularly usually helps me to at least maintain. My largest gains usually happen when I do not weigh myself.

I always looked forward to Teacher Appreciation Week! Since I was in a HS the kids were very involved and I would get the nicest thank you notes. On Friday the PTO would treat us to a pizza and salad lunch and the kids would bring in desserts-
So, thank you for showing your support and appreciation!

Your experiences absolutely validate this article.
I am going to start weighing myself daily instead of weekly. I am hoping it will be less stressful if I do it on a daily basis and get used to fluctuations.

Bathroom scale... I either don't weigh myself at all or I weigh every day. I don't get discouraged by fluctuations, and when I'm really working at losing weight I like to know where I am.

I had a significant ah-ha moment yesterday: I believe I am allergic to tomatoes. Yesterday for lunch I had a lovely heirloom tomato and barratta bruscetta salad. By 2pm I was in the throes of a full on histamine event and could barely keep my eyes open and on the bus ride home I did actually fall asleep. When I got home I crawled in to bed and slept for two hours before it started to clear. I've never had such a clear connection between the food and the reaction... it's kind of mind blowing, and might just be the key I've been searching for to answer why I feel crappy so often, and why I fall asleep after eating so often.

Now I need to learn how to lead a tomato free life. I can make my beloved Caprese with something else, a lot of fruits are yummy with balsamic, it's the tomato in sauces and dressings that I'm going to have to really watch out for.

I love tomatoes! That would break my heart, but you’re right, that was a pretty clear connection.

You may (emphasis on the "may") be OK with sauces. My niece is allergic to some fruits raw, but she can have them if they're cooked. It has to do with the cooking breaking some component down??

A small glimmer of hope - thanks! I've been reading up and a lot of things I've been struggling with like runny nose, stomach aches, light eczema could all be tomatoes and not gluten or dairy as I had thought, so I'm rather excited. I'll go tomato free for a week then test some that are cooked.

Another Woohoo Wednesday!

Hope your week is off to a good start and that you can share something positive with us!

We’re going to the beach this weekend to celebrate a family birthday. My daughter and her family will join us-so looking forward to getting away.

It's still Tuesday, you overachiever!!! (We're in the same timezone, I'm not fooled) :P

Hello, Dearies!!!

So much to catch up. Remember when I joked I'd check on my bees in a week or so if they hadn't flown away? That was a JOKE. That is *NOT* supposed to happen!!! Guess what one of the new colonies did??? On the bright side, they only got as far as my neighbor's rose arbor (I can't really blame them, her yard *IS* the prettiest on the block...) On the downside, that's how I spent the afternoon yesterday, and then again today getting some of the stragglers that were too dumb to fly home to a hive only 20 feet away on the other side of the fence... And I'll go back and check one more time tomorrow. To catch them, you spray them with sugar water, which makes it so they can't fly, then you kind of scooch them into a box... but bunches ended up down in the grass, and I have to see if they come together in a mass again or not...

And while I was over in the neighbor's yard doing that today, my 15-year-old goofy child went into "toddler mode" and dumped an entire tube of super-fine glitter in her hair. (I'm not sure what exactly she was trying to do, but that was the end result.) It didn't vacuum out, it didn't wash out... I took her on the back porch and brushed her hair and it looked like Tinkerbell on crack and there was *STILL* a ton of it left at the end. On her, in her hair, on her clothes, on me, all over the house. So yeah, that was my evening, covered in sugar (from the bees) and glitter... like a bad movie about Vegas... We are going to be cleaning glitter out of the house and sparkling like vampires for MONTHS!!! It's EVERYWHERE!!!

My motivation for Monday *WAS* the peaceful quiet after I finished my latest statistics test... my husband was out of town for a family thing, and it was just me and the kittens for a few beautiful moments... then DD15 came home... then the neighbor came over... etc. For Topic Tuesday... I don't really have a good pattern for weighing, I used to track weight every Monday, but secretly check almost every day... but then we changed it so that H cooks on Friday and the kids cook on the weekend-- that is *NOT* a recipe for a happy Monday morning... lots of processed food and salt, heavy sauces, etc. So I've been working on switching back to Fridays... and then I forget! :sad2:

We are still figuring out what to do for DD11's teachers for teacher appreciation week-- she has 4 core teachers and only has ideas for 2 of them... For DD15, there are not only the teachers, but aides, techs, counselors, etc, and they all do SO much for the kids. We wanted to do something for them, but couldn't be sure how much sugary stuff they'd be getting from everyone else... So this year we just went with an enormous basket of strawberries and a note about how at least it wasn't apple-themed...

I weigh weekly. Mostly because on weekdays I roll out of bed, into my clothes, and hit the gym. Then it's scarf breakfast and get ready for work. Not a lot of time for anything except what needs to be done. Saturday mornings are lazy and I'm not putting sneakers on immediately upon waking so that's when I weigh. 2019 I am recording those weights. I liked things better before I had a digital scale! Those stupid tenths of a pound can be so annoying. Much better when I was looking at which side of a black line I was on!:rotfl2:I'm trying not to be too annoyed and keep reminding myself it's just a number and I am more than a number.

@Zhoen it is already Wednesday for me and @4Mickeys!!! :rotfl:Poor @sjrec (and any other wonderful host) just has a hard time with all those different time zones here!!

@Zhoen I have to say that I am always in awe about how much stuff you get done! My father had bees at some time and loved it, so it’s great to read about your adventures!

Wednesday has just started a bit blah. No woohoo yet. Definitely not scale which is up. But I am sure I will find something during the day!
