The Running Thread - 2019

ATTQOTD: I’ll put a decimal in it and run that. My birthday is in late July, so I have no desire to run 32 miles in that weather! My husband does do the actual miles every year, normally with friends and on a nice trail. He started this on his 30th and he’ll be 36 this fall. His birthday is less than 2 weeks before NYC marathon, so we’ll see if he does the 36 miles this year.

ATTQOTD: I don’t necessarily have a running goal at the moment but more over of an overall fitness goal. I’ve put off strength training for so long and finally decided to try it since I’ve felt like I’ve been in a running slump lately and just need to try something new. My brother in law designed a plan for me and today was day 1 and I didn’t die so I’ll take it. I guess the goal is to get in better shape so I can tackle Dopey training come August!

QOTD: What is your next big running goal to accomplish?
ATTQOTD: PR my half marathon on June 2!!

Based on my training runs I am definitely there. I just need to do it on race day. Just the thought of race day is making me nervous especially after I bonked on my last PR attempt at the Star Wars Rival Run 10K which was mainly due to FL heat/humidity. I just need to trust where I am and keep telling myself the race is just another training run.

But my biggest concern right now is the weather. It has been unseasonably cool in the northeast. Some of the hills here in CT actually got accumulating snow this week which is crazy for mid May. Weather has been great for running. But it is not preparing me for the heat I am sure we will get in June. As it seems to be the case recently, and with my luck, we will go right from Winter to Summer and it will be 95 on June 2...

ATTQOTD: No goals. I punted on 5K and HM PRs during winter/early spring. Peachtree is coming up, so maybe my main running goal is to meet some DISers there!

Speaking of Peachtree, today I started gearing my training toward it: hills and more hills! 813 foot elevation gain in 6 miles.

That is why my weekend run is what i refer to as the downtown, GA tech loop. Its just up or down. Should be perfect training.

Am definitely hoping to see you there. i am also going to sign up for the triple peach this year.

ATTQOTD:

Get back to where I was. Then improve on that.

The short term goal is to continue adding to my fitness, subtracting from my weight, and hitting a sub-2:20 in my proof of time half in August/September. That’s modest and achievable (and the real goal is to be wayyyy sub-2:20), but I feel like I give up much more easily when my training timeframe and goals no longer realistically align so I’m trying to be better with the rationality of my goals.
