I think Disney is testing the ceiling on their product especially with the opening of SW. Hopefully, they notice soft occupancy rates and back track - a girl can dream, right?

Do employee cards count as an AU? I can’t get one for my 16 year old and I don't want to hurt my husbands x/24 status.

We have a 5 hour layover in CLT - very excited to use our priority passes...and it seems to be a dud for us. One hour in one of those little rooms with 2 of my kids doesn’t sound like a fun start to vacation at all.
Seriously—not at all appealing!

✧・゚: *✧・゚:* REMINDER *:・゚✧*:・゚✧

TODAY IS THE LAST DAY TO PURCHASE MARRIOTT BONVOY POINTS AT 25% OFF.

I previously wrote about this first-ever sale of Marriott points since the new Bonvoy program launched, here:

I've given some thought in the past month to buying more points, because I do like Marriott's properties and tend to redeem them at higher category hotels during busy travel dates when the cash price for rooms is high, and for 5 night stays to take advantage of the free night, all of which usually gets me a redemption value better than the 0.9375 cpp cost of these points. I think I'm going to sit out this sale. It seems like Marriott is lowballing its first sale at only 25% off when compared to the 35% off sales that use to run for Starpoints, back when Marriott and Starpoints were arguably more valuable before all the negative changes wrought by Bonvoy. Since this is just the first sale, I'll join @calypso726 in not taking the bait at 25%, not inflate their sales numbers, and hope Marriott/Points .com come back with a more reasonable 35% off, or even 50% off deal later this year. (Especially since a member is capped at purchasing only 50k points a year.)

However, if anyone is in need of Marriott points to complete an upcoming redemption, especially one where your redemption value tops 1 cpp, this could be a nice way spend some money (preferably on a CIP or towards an MSR) to save some money.

Exactly! I'd rather their first sale be a bust and the next one have a better bonus offer.

FWIW, one of TPG's lackeys did a review of the Sheraton Grande Tokyo Bay: Boring Hotel, Great Location: A Review of the Sheraton Grande.

I think it's cute that he thought he'd find a Disney hotel in Japan with availability 2 months out LOL You'd think a travel hacker would do some homework. I kid, because I've made similar stupid mistakes travel hacking and should have known better. Well, the hotel looks clean and convenient. Yay! One more place where we can use our free night Bonvoy Brilliant certs! Japan 2022/2023 is getting easier and easier.

There is no way he knew to blur faces out of his photos but didn't know he wouldn't find anything available two months out. I don't understand the point of claiming otherwise, other than to set the article up like "ho hum, I had to stay at this dump that I am ordinarily too good for."

Hi everyone! We are back from our LA/Disneyland trip, which was our first-ever all-points (almost) trip, and I wanted to say THANK YOU to everyone here. This trip would not have been financially possible at all without lots of help on this thread!

I just added everything up in YNAB and I believe that in the end we spent about $1100 in cash out of pocket for a 7-night trip for two people. Points did cover our roundtrip flights on SW, 7 hotel nights in LA and Anaheim, and 1 of 2 rental car days. My CSR credit covered incidental hotel charges, parking, and Ubers/Lyft/public transit everywhere. Gift cards (all I wanted for Christmas and birthday presents) covered QS meals and our Blue Bayou Fantasmic package. We paid cash for our catsitter, the WB studio tour, a nice dinner in Santa Monica, Disneyland tickets, MaxPass each day, dinner at Lamplight Lounge, drinks and appetizers at Carthay Circle, and of course some souvenir mugs at Trader Sam's! We really enjoyed LA despite weirdly gray and chilly weather, and Disneyland/DCA was AMAZING. We were in the parks from rope drop to close every day with a short afternoon nap break. I thought the parks were so much smaller and manageable but just as detailed and magical as Disney World...even better in many ways. Fantasmic and World of Color were just amazing. The whole time my husband kept saying "This has been a really awesome vacation! I'm having a lot of fun!", and if we hadn't been able to cover flights and lodging with points we would have just been eating PB&J sandwiches the whole time, or maybe wouldn't have gone at all.

I am fighting some serious post-Disney depression but am trying to cope by hanging out on the DISboards, listening to theme park music at work, watching the Trackers on Youtube, and planning my next redemptions - Universal Orlando in September, then Tokyo sometime in 2020 or 2021. Once I can figure out how to get photos from my phone to the boards I'll post in the Hotel Reviews thread (although I have a tip for I believe it's @elgerber staying at the Four Points in Anaheim? If you're worried about the noise, ask for a pool-facing room on the first floor - we were in room 102 and the noise from the freeway was no problem.)
Glad to hear you had a good time! We are sitting at the airport waiting to go home. :( I agree I absolutely love Disneyland!! We are more into the rides and we are able to do so many more rides than at WDW.

I thought it was June Gloom, at least that’s what people told us last time we came in June. I’m 2/4 for sunny weather when I visit California!

May Gray
June Gloom
No Sky July
Fogust
Septembrrr

Then we’ll probably get a nice stretch of summer weather in October, unless we have another bad wildfire season and the smoke chokes up the air, blocks out the sun, ash rains down, and casts a post-apocalyptic sepia tone over everything.

No really, come visit California y’all! It’s beautiful here!

P.S. Except don’t come to the SF Bay Area today, or anytime in the next few days. It’s raining and windy. And hundreds of flights are either delayed or canceled at SFO.

DIS on my phone (iPhone) was driving me crazy. I downloaded Opera Touch browser and it’s amazing. No adds, no redirects, and my cellular data usage has reduced significantly (my browser specific data). Highly recommend. Takes a bit to get used to (it’s targeted as a one hand browser so some of the controls aren’t the most intuitive) but after a day or two there’s no going back for me.

I use the Opera browser on my desktop at home now too. My husband mocks me for this but I've found it to be quicker and have less "crap" (ads, popups, whatever).

This site can be really bad about that sometimes.

Heading to CLE. They actually have a good priority pass restaurant. Dinner is on the company but they’ll only have to cover the tip:) meanwhile in clt and phl priority pass is basically worthless???
My dh and ds ate there a couple weeks ago when they flew to CLE. My dh said it wasn't as good as Timberline but he liked it! My ds got an ice cream sundae so he was very happy with it - Bar Symon, I think..?

This was the same for us too! We opened and closed the park every day but 1 and still wished we had another day to do more :)
Glad y'all had a great time!

I'm not sure if this offer has been mentioned here. SW credit card offer 5x on certain utilities and other purchases from 4/1-6/30 up to $2,000. DH got an email offer from SW a while back for 5x points on. I didn't get an email but I found the offer when I logged into my SW account. My MSRs are mostly met so this was an easy 10,000 SW points.

Which account did you find this offer in, Southwest or Chase?

Yes. This is my second time eating there. It’s decent and fast. Wish I’d known about the ice cream sundae:)

I found it when I logged into Southwest and clicked on My Account. I had already activated on DH's card. I saw it on my account, but when I went to activate it, there was a message that the offer was not available on the card I entered. I had just cancelled any got reimbursed for my second SW card :(. Now when I log in all I see is the offer for the 60,000 point card.

I think my dh has cards he’s never even had his hand on nor does he realize he has. Sometimes I just forget to tell him :confused3 Does that make me an identity thief?
I attempted to call Chase today pretending to be DH (it didn’t work) and when I told him he said “Do I have a new card I don’t know about?” No I was attempting to cancel the excursion I booked through Chase portal.
