APs and Resort guests can now upgrade their magicband

I just looked also- no luck with new customized bands, just the solid colors still.

Because several years ago, Disney wanted to save money on their IT department by hiring foreign workers instead of U.S. workers, as they would work for less money and want fewer benefits. Disney quickly discovered the law wouldn't allow them to fire U.S. citizens to bring in foreign workers on H1-B visas, as these visas are intended solely for hiring people when there are no U.S. workers that are qualified and willing to take the jobs. In this case, there were clearly qualified people that could take the jobs as they were already doing the job. But of course a little thing like the law isn't going to stand in the way of profits, so they found a loophole in the law that if they outsourced the IT department to another company, they could fire the U.S. workers and the outside company could hire the foreign workers.

I am not trying to discuss the merits of the H1-B visas and if they are a good idea or not, only explaining what Disney did in the past that has brought us to the point we are at now or was that supposed to be a rhetorical question?
Ooooh crap I remember this. Is that why the IT has been so terrible? Lame. :/

I called Disney yesterday (5/15 as various other boards said that was the date) and was told that they didn’t know when it would be available. Nor could the CM tell me if as I have an existing booking would I be able to.
Just wish they could be clearer if it’s for everyone or not and a date.

I think the May 15th date honestly originated from the comments on the original blog post. One person said something like "I heard it's May 15th from someone who called Disney" (?????) and then that date started getting spread around. Although I did check a zillion times yesterday, I think it was just a rumor!

I still only see plain colors offered when I try to order an ap magic band.

Can you decline and then request he customization closer to your trip and pick them up at the resort?
I'm not sure when the cutoff date for customization is, but I booked a quick trip to WDW and it was about 1 week out. It said I could customize the bands but when I tried, I got an error message. When I arrived at the WDW resort, the handed me grey MB's with our names on it. So no opportunity to pick a color, and no colors were given as an option at the resort as they had evidently already assigned grey as the color.

The actual cutoff for customized bands with resort delivery is 6 or 7 days. I think it was 6. They do have colored bands at the front desk btw, they just don't give them out unless it's their fault you didn't get a customized band. One time they couldn't find our bands at AoA after looking for about 15-20 minutes so the CM asked us which color we had ordered and got us both purple bands from the back. He then proceeded to ask what text we wanted on the back and he ordered a new customized set of bands which was delivered to our room 2 or 3 days later. His estimate was 5 days but they arrived sooner.

You’re probably right.... but it’s a rumour that even the Disney Parks Blog believed. When people starting querying on the 15th where it was. “Check back this afternoon”.

Though, if it was a rumour and it was never planned- after the massive backlash that came; you’d think we would have got some more clarification then.

Someone in one of my FB groups contacted Disney IT yesterday and was told in the next 7-10 days. Also they said as long as you haven’t passed your customization date you will be able to upgrade. We all know how reliable Disney IT is so here’s to hoping they are right this time.

Disney IT is abysmal at best.

And the left hand hasn’t got a clue what the right hand is up to.

My guess is it’ll be a while yet before the fancy bands are released for upgrade purchase on MDE. And even then I’m not confident the IT aspect of it will work.

I truly love all things Disney. But holy bananas their website/app is greatly lacking in consistency and ease of use and for a company of this scope that is simply unacceptable IMO. The fact that we’re surprised when something isn’t completely glitched out is a huge problem.

Fingers crossed for those who are anxiously awaiting this release. pixiedust:

I think it also gets people thinking about having more "special" bands and then tempts them to go out and buy other ones. I'm leaving next Friday so I doubt it'll be out in time for this trip, but I'm definitely going to consider it for our next one in September.

This. I'm such a sucker.

I have 3 days....man, if this comes out in 4 days, I will be bummed!!!! (Total first world problems, but you know, Disney.) :)

And in the midst of all this, still unclear if the solid (but non-standard) bands will be available - black, white, spruce, light blue, etc. In principle, those would be free, as their retail price is the same as the credit toward the more expensive bands.

You know, I think I would be happy to wait a little longer if someone could just answer this. I want millennium pink.

Where do you guys see these colors? On the shopping website?
