How did you make your SHDL Dining reservation?

For those who have been to Shanghai Disneyland and have dined at one of their table service restaurants ... How did you make your reservation without knowing how to speak Chinese?

Their online chat system is worthless. Even using google translate, they tell me to call.

I have tried calling their reservation number, but after waiting for 30 minutes on hold, I get frustrated and hang up.

I painfully suppressed the WDW like planning mind set and decided to wing it on arrival. The club level concierge at the SDL hotel was able to secure all the reservations we wanted when we checked in.

We have found it's not worth waiting on hold...you never get connected.

In the past couple of weeks we have called 3 times.
Just hang up and call back and you usually get connected to cast member straight away. Might take a couple recalls...but all 3 times this worked for us and never waited a minute.

I have made all reservations at the parks, usually the day of, but have not gone on VERY busy days. I remember the Host at Lumierre's Kitchen having pretty good English but at the Royal Banquet hall, there was an attempt while they sent a second person to get an English-speaking manager, but it still worked fine. Except for peak days, I suspect the only place you REALLY need a reservation for is Royal Banquet Hall and MAYBE Aurora's.

@gt5889a Thanks. Was Club level worth the extra cost?

Very much so. You check in up in the lounge which was so much less hectic than the lobby area. The staff was great - never really had any issues with respect to English/Chinese and communication. I had ordered a portable Wifi which was shipped to the hotel before our arrival and they had it ready for us right at check in. The food and beverage was very good - we ate breakfast there every day and usually a late afternoon snack before heading back into the park. We're looking forward to our next visit next spring and will definitely stay club level again.

Are you staying on property?

We did our reservations via hotel concierge desk the day when we checked in.

Yes. I’ve emailed them to make a reservation. I’m also hoping for an upgrade to club level.

I just booked Royal Banquet Hall for dinner in June on the main reservation phone and it was pretty painless.

I used WeChat Out to call via the app. I put $5 on and spent $.10 on the call.
After the automated system picked up, wait and it will ask you in English for the next step. I forget which is first, but I think it was to continue in English hit 0. For new reservations, press 1. Again, I forget the order, but it was pretty clear. You just have to let the recorded message talk for a bit.

Once I was connected to an operator, I used my “do you speak English?” very poorly. I quickly followed with it in English and she said yes. After that, I’ll very direct and easy. I received an email confirmation about 20 minutes after the call.

Good luck!

I just emailed, gave them the date and time and number in my family, and they emailed back with my confirmation for Royal Banquet Hall in June. Simple!

What's the email? I'd love to reserve in advance instead of doing it on check-in

When I had dinner at the Royal Banquet Hall, it was in October 2017 and the park was deserted. My sister was craving a good meal (she's not a fan of chinese fan) and we stopped at the Podium. She liked the menu and the restaurant was so empty they asked us what time we wanted to dine. I wanted to do some shopping in Adventure Isle and TRON, so we asked them for 30 minutes later and immediately met Minnie downstairs, before going up to the restaurant that had perhaps 5-6 tables occupied.

I had no issues with english at the resort. If you want a Dole Whip, they sell Stitch themed ones in Tomorrowland, at the counter under the central stairs in front of the stage.
