Lol similar situation here. I agreed to pay for dd’s prom house, final payment of $70 was due. She asked me to Venmo the money to her friend. I typed her name in, showed Dd the account to confirm, she acts that’s it. Next day Dd said her friend didn’t get the payment. I showed Dd the confirmation, she realized the name was spelled differently. I then told Dd that I wasn’t paying any more money, she’d have to pay.

What's a prom house?

Something kind of similar happened to me but the responsibility was a lot more vague.

Person X was in charge of collecting money for something everyone in the organization needed to contribute to. I rarely come in contact with Person X. I see Person Y quite often, and he said he was going over to find Person X later that day to give her his share. I said "Oh yeah, I need to do that too." Person Y volunteers to take my money to Person X for me, so I than him and hand it over.

Days later, Person X contacts me and says she hasn't received my payment yet. I tell her Person Y was bringing mine to her. She said Person Y had paid his, but not mine. I ask Person Y about it and he looks a little confused at first, like he doesn't remember me giving him my money, then his expression clears and he says, "Oh yeah, I gave her your money."

I trust both of these people completely. I would bet just about anything that neither of them was out to steal my money.

So one of two things happened: either Person Y thought he gave Person X my money but he never did, or he did give her my money but she forgot to mark me as paid as well as him, since I never actually handed her money.

Either way, it was my responsibility to get the money to Person X, so I paid her. It was only $20. I might have been able to sort it out by getting them in the same room together and talking it out but it wasn't worth it.

Of course Rachel shouldn't have to pay again. That's ridiculous. But in a practical work situation where I would have to work with these people every day, I would probably offer to split the difference or something.

I had a similar thing (sort of) happen to me and I think I handled it properly. I sent my SIL a check to pay a share of a hotel room and a few weeks later it hadn’t cleared my account. She says she deposited it at the atm but the bank has no record of it. She asks me to stop payment on the first check and send another and
‘If I wanted” I could deduct the 35 I had to pay my bank to stop payment.

I asked my husband what he wanted to do and he said deduct the 35. She is the one who lost the check. I still felt a bit weird as this SIL can make a mountain out of molehill at times. She received the second check and didn’t say anything about it being 35 less, but I never know how she will react to stuff like this.

Yet another reason why when I used to go out for lunch at work I didn't offer nor did I ask to have someone get my lunch.

I would have had to held back laughing in her face. You lost the money falls under "Your Bad".

Did you send a payment request to the person you mistakenly sent money to so they could send you your money back? I’d hope whoever that person is wouldn’t just keep $70 that didn’t belong to them.

Yes, 7 hours after I sent it I sent a request, and also sent a comment to please send my daughter’s money back, that it was a mistake. No response so far.

Did you contact Venmo to see if the money had been accepted on the other side? Maybe there is no person with that name or registered with Venmo. And the money is still in limbo somewhere and that's also why you get no response?

According to a different site, it says:

  • If you send the wrong amount or to the wrong person, Venmo recommends you ask the recipient to return it – with one exception: If the recipient doesn’t have a Venmo account, you can cancel the payment.
  • If you don’t hear from the person who received the funds by mistake or need help sending a charge request, Venmo suggests to contact their support team.

I’m planning on contacting them, but from what I’ve read, I’m not feelin positive.

Ugh, Rachel deserves to pay double just for having that stupid haircut.

Jokes aside, Monica needs to pay for Rachel’s meal and return the change to her.
