Canadian Buffoon's Back to Front Vacation - Update! 05/18 - Falling Down

I'm almost always a sucker for
Spaghetti Bolognese.
Baked in the oven with
cheese and meatballs?

They were stingy with the meatballs...but that looked seriously good. Note how I comment on the food and not the amazing scenery lol. Waterfalls are great and all ...but the food!! The sheep was pretty cool to see though...that's worth mentioning I suppose....In all seriousness....a lot of cool views and vistas on that trek!! (and good food too)

Well I do get May 29th off...
So not too bad.
Yeah, 1 day off a month is good.
NOT!

Huh.
My voices are usually telling me
that no one is coming.
I'm just not worth the effort.
Huh, did you say something?

What's the past tense of doth, because it DID!

Used to be a place where
I got them here in town,
but it closed up a few years ago.
Been looking since.
I've tried a couple places
but haven't found as good, yet.
Another reason to come visit, I guess.

As I mentioned to Meghan,
I find it really interesting which
photos people find more appealing.
The beauty of nature, just as with other beauty...
is in the eye of the beholder.

I wonder if it's a result of the
bridge construction/excavation.
No idea how old that bridge is.
Didn't think of that. Possible.

I expect minimum three.
Better yet, four or more.
::yes::

Great.
My only friend is the one
I don't really want.
At least you have one.

I say that a lot, too.
Great minds...

Pizza is the one place where
the more the merrier really applies.
I like onions (red or otherwise),
tomatoes (sun dried or not),
mushrooms...

I disagree. Not a big onion fan...I like the taste of onion, but not big hunks of it. Exception - onion rings.
Fungus - nope, absolutely not.

You'd make your own poutine??
Yep. The only place I've seen that has it is refreshment port near Canada pavilion and it's okay, but not fantastic. And the price.
If I can get cheese curds, making my own brisket poutine becomes a real possibility.

Yes.
And also why I'm thinking
I shouldn't use it, to be honest.
You could...it may not be their epic trip, but it could have been for you an Elle.

There's always a chance it will
be better than rock bottom.

It certainly can't go down.
Oh, I don't know...it could be mine.

 :faint: How are you surviving so far?!

Well...

Don't ask.

Certainly not!

And that fresh air!

My goodness, what a sight :cloud9:

Very much so!
That was a photo begging
to be taken.

:scared1: That reminds me... my mom and stepdad have had a pesky bear lingering in their backyard for the last few days, ravaging the birdfeeder and helping himself to quite the feast. :sad2: I find bears to be much more enjoyable when they run off quickly! I texted from their driveway yesterday "MAKE SURE THE DOOR IS UNLOCKED" and proceeded to run, not walk, to their front door :rotfl:

 Eep!
You don't call animal control
to get it to move on?

:rolleyes1

... oh wait! It could have! They missed a real opportunity there...

I should send them a suggestion.

:worship: Impressive!

It was a nice little trip. :)

Also impressive!

Not as impressive
as the haul from the
trip when I met you. :)

:rotfl2: Looking forward to reading all about your adequate trip

Soon!... ish...

They were stingy with the meatballs...but that looked seriously good.

It was seriously good.
Just... stingy.

Note how I comment on the food and not the amazing scenery lol.

A girl after my own heart....
or stomach.

Waterfalls are great and all ...but the food!!

Are you hungry by any chance? ;)

The sheep was pretty cool to see though...that's worth mentioning I suppose....

I suppose.

But... derpy looking!

....In all seriousness....a lot of cool views and vistas on that trek!! (and good food too)

There was food?
Huh. Hadn't noticed.

Yeah, 1 day off a month is good.
NOT!

Well, I also had a vacation
in there that you may have
heard about.

Huh, did you say something?

No it was the voices
in our heads.

What's the past tense of doth, because it DID!

Didth.

Another reason to come visit, I guess.

Umm... where?

The beauty of nature, just as with other beauty...
is in the eye of the beholder.

Very true.
I had someone tell me once why
I should like some art that I hated.

Um... no. I'm not going to like it
more just because it's explained to me.

I might appreciate it more...
but like it? Doubtful.

Didn't think of that. Possible.

No clue. Just spitballing.

At least you have one.

Smoke?
Okay. Smoke's my friend.
Get's in my lungs, though.

Great minds...

...are not ours.

I disagree. Not a big onion fan...I like the taste of onion, but not big hunks of it. Exception - onion rings.
Fungus - nope, absolutely not.

Pizza is in the belly of the beholder.

Yep. The only place I've seen that has it is refreshment port near Canada pavilion and it's okay, but not fantastic. And the price.
If I can get cheese curds, making my own brisket poutine becomes a real possibility.

ooooohhhh....

:faint:

You could...it may not be their epic trip, but it could have been for you an Elle.

True!

Oh, I don't know...it could be mine.

:lmao:

No words.

But I did see on your thread
that you caught up. :)

Well... I was.

I was never a big fan.
Sure I know a couple of
his tunes (like everyone)
but...

Country music.

You're listening to the wrong country music.

To be perfectly honest?
You know it's beautiful
when you're moved to
photograph it. :)

I would absolutely agree with this.

But why did it have
to be the derpiest
sheep in the Rockies???

The sharpest ones know to steer clear of camera lenses.

Hmmm...

To be quite honest,
I don't really know.
While I was there at the time
and I did meet some of the
Epic girls trip ladies...
I wasn't really part of it.

I get that, but I'm sure those who met you enjoyed your company and made you feel "welcomed".

Still bummed we didn't get
a chance to meet up.
Maybe in September.
I see from your ticker that
you have dates.
I don't know when mine are,
but... maybe the stars will
align this time. :)

Yes, my dates/trip has been planned for over a year with my kids. :) Keep me posted... always happy for a Meet!

Well... I was.

Never lasts...

Never.

You're listening to the wrong country music.

You're right.
Country music is wrong.

Glad we agree on this.

The sharpest ones know to steer clear of camera lenses.

That must be it!

I get that, but I'm sure those who met you enjoyed your company and made you feel "welcomed".

They did, and I greatly
enjoyed meeting them
as well! :)

Yes, my dates/trip has been planned for over a year with my kids. :) Keep me posted... always happy for a Meet!

Will do!

I'm going to go for the
dullest TR ever!

Here's a brief sample:
"I went on a ride.
Then another.
Then another.
Ate.
Went on a ride.
Then another.
Then another..."

Narrated by this guy.

:rotfl2:

.captured possibly the nerdiest
looking Bighorn in the Rockies.

I named him Howard.
(Anyone else watch the
Big Bang Theory finale?)
LOL, darn nerdy goats. Where were they hiding all the amazing head butting ones!?

YES. I thought it was SO good!! My husband was mad that it just ended with them all sitting together eating. He was really holding out for one last Bazinga!

Wow some truly beautiful nature in this update. The food wasn't too bad either.

And I did see it. He looked outraged.

I know it's close to Christmas but not quite Christmas.

That's true...
But... We're probably going...
somewhere the week between
Christmas and New Years.
So getting out before, might
be problematic.

Wow some truly beautiful nature in this update. The food wasn't too bad either.

Which did you prefer?
I would think it depends
on how long it's been
since you last ate.

And I did see it. He looked outraged.

He was. How dare they!?!?!

Do you get the feeling that this
particular update will be
particularly... long?

Always. Nevertheless, continue.

Woods. Meh.

Getting better...

There we go! Gorgeous spot.

And they were selling...
Weisswurst!!

Yay?

If you don't know what
that is, it's a traditional
Bavarian (Southern Germany)
sausage made of veal and pork.

And it's by far my favourite
German sausage.

Oh, ok. In that case, good for you!

Dawson Falls is completely
different from the previous
falls I'd just seen.

But almost as pretty.

Apparently, that's called
the Mush Bowl.
Sorry, I don't know mush
about it.

:sad2:

Moments later, I arrived
at Helmcken Falls.

It's flowing with beer?!?!

Oh, sorry. At first I read that as HEINECKEN Falls.

Gorgeous shot!

So there you have it!
Three falls for the price
of one park.

Not too shabby.

Does anyone else have
the urge to pee?

Always. Been more of a problem as I get older.

Somewhere in there...
a bear ran across the highway
in front of me.
He was far enough ahead
that I didn't even have to
slow to avoid him...
But that also meant by the
time I got to where he'd been,
he was already deep enough
in the bushes that I couldn't
photograph him.

Why did the bear cross the road?

What's the wurst that could've
happened??

You're getting on a roll here...just like the sausage.

I'm almost always a sucker for
Spaghetti Bolognese.
Baked in the oven with
cheese and meatballs?

I mean, that's a strong argument.

I got my order and...
I'm always surprised, a bit
when I order meatballs.
I always expect... well,
more than two!
(No, that dish is not overly big,
nor are the meatballs.)

It was good, quite good, in fact.
Just a little stingy with the
meatballs.

This made me think of the old Wendy's "Where's the beef?" commercials.

Oh, deer. Sorry.

That's the third one. That's a violation.

However, a little farter up the road

You know what? I'm gonna let this one slide, though. Fart jokes are always acceptable.

Oh boy! My very first Bighorn!

Excellent?

DSC06776_zps0c7bz0f2.jpg

...captured possibly the nerdiest
looking Bighorn in the Rockies.

So...it looks like a perfectly acceptable bighorn sheep to me. Not sure what exactly makes him nerdy. I don't see a pocket protector or anything.

Well... I'd seen my first Bighorn...
I packed up my gear and...
I wasn't sure if I should feel
elated or disappointed.

You decide.

Elated! What are you complaining about?

Every other time I'd camped,
I'd put the rain fly on the tent
"just in case" and not needed it.
I debated whether to put it on or not.
Finally I did.
It was my last camping night.

And it rained during the night.
Good call. :)

Whew.

I once again entered the boring,
mind-numbing plains of Saskatchewan.

I'm so sorry. Here to talk if you need to. If my eyes close, I'm still listening.

Okay... so I didn't show you too
much mountain scenery either,
so technically it's just as boring
in your mind as the rest of this TR.

I wasn't going to say anything, but...

You had me at "Sweet".

Also "Pastry".

Amen.

The sign on the door said:
"Closed due to death
in the family."

Well... that sucks.
On many levels.

Oh, wow. Yeah, that's just sad.

I'm sure that's what the management
thought it'd be used for when
they put it in.
Surely, no one would eat there?

:rolleyes1

Boy. It doesn't get much more
Canadian than that!
(Although the beaver
should have been gnawing
on a hockey stick.)

I like that idea. Maybe swigging some maple syrup, too.

The burger was really good.
(Doesn't it look about 1,000%
better than a McD's burger?)

Yes. Yes, it does.

Did you see it in this chapter?

::yes:: Another pastry fan.

Link to new TR coming soon!
It'll be EPIC!!!!

No... wait... that's been taken.
It'll be ADEQUATE!!!!

That's all we can reasonably ask for! Very wise to lower expectations right off the bat.

Thanks for taking us along on the trip! I always enjoy your writing and storytelling. And fart jokes. But mostly the first two.

Always. Nevertheless, continue.

Sounds like you've been here before...

Woods. Meh.

And you a golf fan. :sad2:

Getting better...

I believe it's played
"Getting warmer".

There we go! Gorgeous spot.

Very much so!

Yay!

Oh, ok. In that case, good for you!

If you've never had it
and you're a fan of
good sausage...

But almost as pretty.

I see which way your
allegiances lay.

It's flowing with beer?!?!

Oh, sorry. At first I read that as HEINECKEN Falls.

Oh, no. It's Canada.
Of course it's flowing
with beer.

But good beer. Not that
crappy stuff you guys
call beer.

Gorgeous shot!

Thanks!

Not too shabby.

Only slightly shabby.

Always. Been more of a problem as I get older.

:rolleyes1

Why did the bear cross the road?

To avoid the TR photographer.

You're getting on a roll here...just like the sausage.

Nice.

I mean, that's a strong argument.

::yes::

This made me think of the old Wendy's "Where's the beef?" commercials.

That's the third one. That's a violation.

Whoops!
But I had some in
the bank from the
last update!

You know what? I'm gonna let this one slide, though. Fart jokes are always acceptable.

::yes::

Excellent?

Excellent!

So...it looks like a perfectly acceptable bighorn sheep to me. Not sure what exactly makes him nerdy. I don't see a pocket protector or anything.

Yeah but he kept talking
about string theory.

Elated! What are you complaining about?

Alright.
Gonna go with elated.

I'm so sorry. Here to talk if you need to. If my eyes close, I'm still listening.

Dude.
I drove through it.
You think I wanna
talk about it?????

I wasn't going to say anything, but...

That's the problem when
you drive.
Especially with a deadline.
Kinda hard to stop and
take it all in (and photograph it.)

Oh, wow. Yeah, that's just sad.

yup

No! Say it isn't so!

I like that idea. Maybe swigging some maple syrup, too.

Nice touch.

It's either maple syrup,
or beer.

You decide.

Yes. Yes, it does.

And it tasted better too.

::yes:: Another pastry fan.

::yes::

That's all we can reasonably ask for! Very wise to lower expectations right off the bat.

If I could set the bar
below ground level,
I would.

Thanks for taking us along on the trip! I always enjoy your writing and storytelling. And fart jokes. But mostly the first two.

You're welcome!
More to come... later.
First, new TR coming
while it's still (semi)
fresh in my brain.

Sometime between
5am and noon.

I pulled over to take a quick
photo of him before he
hurried off to buy rocket
propelled roller skates
or the like.
He's going to be real upset when he finds out that the only roller skate shop in town is owned by the road runner

Well worth the hike, I think.
Wow excellent shots! I am still trying to find the right landscapes to capture long exposures and these are very inspiring.

Blech!
Not blueberries.
I feel like the #1 rule of berries is don't eat them because 97% of them will kill you.

(what city with a population of
a couple thousand or more doesn't
have a McDonalds?)
My home town.
Population: ~4,000
# of McDonalds establlshments: 0

I made sure to order a
poutine along with my burger.
Poutine is one of the top 4 dishes to come from your wonderful country. I love everything about it. I was recently in Ottawa and stumbled upon a street festival entirely devoted to it and it was pure heaven.

He was!
I heard him howling
about it later that night.

Water flowing is perfect
for long exposures. :)

So is the night sky, but!!
Exposures of longer than
30 seconds result in star trails.
Not good.

While normally I'd agree with you...
I figured berries deliberately planted
alongside a footpath would be safe.
That's rule #2.

Or might result in #2.

Either or.

My home town.

What????

Where do you live?
I didn't think this was possible.

Okay, now I'm curious.
What are the other 3????

What????

Where do you live?
I didn't think this was possible.

The middle of nowhere in Kansas. We had to drive 20 minutes to get to the closest McDonalds. It was a rough time in the wilderness. We were practically frontiersmen/women.

Okay, now I'm curious.
What are the other 3????
In no particular order:
1- BeaverTails
2- maple everything
3- open for discussion but right now it's a tie between Montreal bagels and smoked meat

Whoa! Did you have to build a lean-to
and make a fire, too?

That's a pretty well thought out list!
