Official Disney Cake Chatter - Part V!

From reading the forum, I understand that this changes over time, but what is your current favorite bakery to work with for an original design (fondant no 2 D prints on chocolate)?

How quickly does the Contemporary bakery usually call you back after leaving a message?

I need a cake for June 3rd, rather soon. I called yesterday morning and have yet to receive a call back yet.

They don't answer that voicemail anymore. This is why the instructions in Post #2 are to call the main number for the resort and ask to be transferred to Private Dining. You MUST speak to a real person in Private Dining. If you need to work with the pastry chef, they will give you an email address to write to.

Thanks! I read the posts and thought I was doing it right. Must have missed something. I’ll try again today.

We’re celebrating our granddaughter’s birthday at Teppan Edo - it looks like the cakes there would be very basic. Could I order & pick up a mini cake at BW bakery & take it to Teppan?

OK, I just wanted to make sure you were calling the right place. If you asked to be transferred to the Contemporary for a cake, the operator might have sent you to that defunct cake line. But if you ask for Private Dining, you should always get a real person, since they're open 24 hours a day.

I feel like I am still doing something wrong. I called the Contemporary and they transferred me to Private Dining. I talked to a really nice guy that took my name and cake info and said that George will call me back the next day (yesterday) and he will make me priority since I need a cake soon. I mentioned Brian and he said that he works in the bakery, George works in Private Dining. Does the Contemporary Bakery not make these celebration cakes anymore? (I used Brian once before several years ago.)

I need to talk to someone and get confirmation of the cake soon as I need it next Monday. Should I call the Private Dining number back?

I called Private Dining back and talked to a guy names James. We talked about cake design and settled on a Magic Kingdom themed cake with a stand-up image of Cinderella's Castle with the fireworks going off in the background, with piped fireworks around the cake. I was hoping to stay around $80, but alas it was $100. I paid $108 for a 10" years ago and I told my step-daugther (who this new cake it for) that I would never do that again. Yet, here I am. But's it's not everyday that you get to turn 14 at Disney.

The Contemporary still makes custom cakes. But it has become more difficult to communicate with the pastry team directly, and what they will allow has become more restricted. Brian actually makes the cakes; George is the guy who takes the cake orders.

This week's Disney Wedding Podcast cake is a rustic naked cake for a Disney wedding reception at the Canada Pavilion in Epcot!

Wow that is a GORGEOUS cake!!

Has anyone ever had a Mouseketeer-themed cake made? My nephew's 1st visit will be in October and I'd like to surprise everyone with a cake (hopefully we'll have a reservation at Citricos). I thought Mouseketeer would be a classic theme to use, unless he's into something more specific by then.

What a beautiful cake! I absolutely love this one. It captures "rustic" perfectly, and screams let's go camping in a cabin in the woods. It's almost too pretty to eat!

Got our Chewie cake last night on our Illuminations boat cruise! It was awesome! Ordered ten inch, marble cake with chocolate butter cream frosting with dark chocolate mousse filling. Made by the Yacht and Beach Club. Cost was $80. The boat captain...the amazing Becca, put the porgs on for me. Cake tasted great, especially the filling. It easily fed five adults. The birthday boys were impressed.

View attachment 394823 View attachment 394824 Here are some pics of the Sunset Cake that we had made for my granddaughter when she turned 3 years old. The cake was beautiful. Vanilla cake with milk chocolate inside between the layers. The frosting was chocolate.

I believe the price was about $85, and I think it was a 10", which was the smallest I could get as custom.

The pictures don't do it justice. And best of all, it was delicious! Very moist. The wait staff all sang and clapped for her. Wonderful night.

I wanted to share my thanks to you for posting these photos. We had been looking for an idea for my soon-to-be-8-year-old nephew’s birthday cake and this was perfect. I contacted AKL private dining 2 weeks ago today for our trip at the end of June, and had a great experience. A CM named Tiffany quickly answered the phone, politely took my information & ideas, and told me I could email her a photo of the cake above. I immediately emailed her & she called me back within 5 minutes saying that the chef who made the cake pictured was still on staff and could do the same one. So yay!! The cost was quoted as $40 for the cake itself & $45 for the additional decorations, so $85 total. Honestly, my mom and I agreed that seemed like a real bargain after the cost of the cakes we’ve been ordering for my daughter from the GF. Granted, they have been much more detailed cakes, but still! And this one is awesome! So yay again!:yay:Also, it was very nice to have the entire process handled within the span of 10 minutes. Previously, when ordering through the GF, there had been a lot of leaving messages back-and-forth with Pat and wondering if we would ever get to finally place our order. This was a simple and easy process with a very kind CM. I’ll update after we receive the cake. :)

Yes, it was Tiffany, and I’m pretty sure it was $85.

One thing I would have done differently. I would have asked them to make sure they took it out of the refrigerator right when we sat down, so that it was room temperature by the time we ate it. Room temp made all the difference when we ate our left overs. Such a gorgeous cake in person!!

I’ll keep that tip in mind. Thanks!
