What's been your experience with PM EMH?

Specifically at the Magic Kingdom? I have always followed the "avoid EMH rule" but I'm wondering what it's actually like for people who have been? Park closes at 11, EMH is from 11pm-1am.

When I went in January 2018 I was in MK on a Saturday evening with EMH from something like 9:00 or 10:00 to midnight. It felt crowded right up until 11:45. :crazy2: Granted, January 2018 had higher crowds than had been projected, plus I think the EMH's that stretch into the small hours are more likely to be a no-go for families with kids, so an EMH that ends at 1am may work out better.

That being said, I still had a good time; I just had to change my expectations when I realized the park was not clearing out like I'd hoped it would.

I went in January 2018 for a 8 - 10 pm EMH. I would say all of the headliner attractions (SDMT, Space, BTMRR, Peter Pan's Flight) had anywhere from 30-45 minute wait times for most of the time during EMH. This is what was shown on the wait time screens at the rides so it may have been shorter, but I didn't use EMH for the headliners. However, all other rides like Pirates, Haunted Mansion, IASW had little to no waits. I would say EMH is good for hitting the mid tier rides and choosing one or two headliners at the end of EMH. BTMRR was a walk-on right at the end of EMH.

I’ve done nighttime EMH at MK twice, but only as recently as May 2014 and January 2017. In May, if I’m remembering right, they lasted until 1 am and the park was pretty empty. I just enjoyed the surreal feeling of riding Dumbo seemingly in the middle of the night.

In January they lasted until 10 and there wasn’t a huge difference in crowds. We thought we might’ve been able to snag a ride on SDMT, but it was packed all night until close...

Generally speaking, the later the EMH goes the better it is. When EMH ends around 10 or even 11, you won't see a big reduction in crowds. With your instance, things will probably start thinning out when you get towards 12 a.m., but even then it still might feel crowded. I haven't seen a real late EMH, or even regular park hours, in quite a while, so it's going to be harder and harder to see a big difference with the EMH crowd I think.

Went from 12 - 2am, during probably the most crowded time and everything was a walk on.
It's pretty hard to do since its so late, so I got coffee a lot.
The only things I had to wait for were 20 for peter pan, and 25 for 7DMT.
I was literally alone on splash, jungle cruise, dumbo, and pirates.
I totally suggest it!

We did a PM EMH at MK during spring break. EMH was from 11 - 1. We left at 12:30 and headliners still had a long wait. I think the posted time for SDMT was still over an hour, Space mountain was probably around 45 minutes. We didn't try to ride, so can't verify if that was what the wait times were. Shops and main street was still really crowded when we left.

We went the second week of December 2018 and the crowds were unlike any we've seen! It was a Saturday and due to MVMCP dates, one of only 2 evenings the entire week that the park was open late. Everything was lined up and we didn't end up riding anything. (it's a small world was a 50 minute wait! Couldn't find the end of the Peopel Mover line.) That being said, I'm sure if we'd stuck it out until after the fireworks, crowds would have thinned down. Next time we might try doing that, going back after the fireworks as it gets more manageable then I believe.

We love PM EMH! The later they are, the less crowded the park will be. This April we did 10pm-midnight and almost everything was walk on with the exception of SDMT, Space, and PP.

Jungle Cruise with just you and the skipper could be awkward or incredibly amazing.
Haha! I was thinking how awkward it would be when I read that. But you're right, there is the potential for it to be pretty great too! Jungle Cruise is better at night regardless, IMO.

We did a PM EMH at MK on our June 2016 trip. That one was from 12-2 a.m. The park was really pretty empty by 12:00 already and by 2:00 it was a ghost town. We were walking around Tomorrowland at 1:30 and there were only about 15 other people around. We had a really good time. I can't remember how many rides we rode, but I remember it was a lot. I remember we rode Buzz Lightyear numerous times with zero wait and Space Mountain was about a 10 minute wait despite being posted as a 45 minute wait with CMs standing at the entrance INSISTING that the posted time was accurate.

We also did a PM EMH on our trip in June 2018. That one was from 11p.m. - 1a.m. It was not nearly as empty as the previous time but it was still a good time. And we again rode Buzz Lightyear numerous times with zero wait.

JC was closed during PM EMH when we were there :crazy2: Not sure if it always is, or we just had bad luck.

I also am of the avoid emh line of thought. Dec 2017 we thought after narcooses we would go to MK. Mistake. Got there at 9pm with a 1am close. It was unbelievably busy. Worse than during the day with a crowd level 8. Wait for 7DMT was 2+ hours same for Peter Pan. Only thing we could get on was small world.

We’re gonna give it a shot. We’ve got FPs for the headliners earlier in the day and this isn’t our only MK day so I think I’ll follow the “mid tier” logic. All these years and we’ve never done EMH so I want to try it. I’ll report back in a couple weeks whether or not it was a mistake!

We will be there July 3 for 12-2 am EMH—I am hoping that a lot of people leave after the fireworks.

Ok, I am not usually a DIS alarmist and think sometimes “crowd posts” are overblown (and we all have different definitions of crowded anyway), but I’m not going to lie, the late EMH on 7/3 I went to in 2017 was pretty darn stout. Hardly a hint of any EMH advantage.

Still awesome and a good time was had by all, but uncrowded it was not! :-)
