The ABCs of An EPIC Girls' Trip! May, 2019-Q is for: Quietly Sending this Trip Report off Into an Internet Sunset (8/25)

Found your trip report a few days ago and have been catching up. What a great story on meeting artist and how awesome the drawing he did for you. I love looking at the Disney Art in those stores. I always wish we could decorate our entire house in those things, but like you they are a little on the expensive side. But $50 for that print seems like a great deal! I'm enjoying your report and excited to read more!

Well, hello there!! :welcome: and make yourself at home. Just push aside the clutter and put your feet up. :)

I'm glad you're here and chiming it; I certainly hope to see you often, everyone's friendly. I almost love the backside of it as much as the actual "painted" art on the front. If I could only draw a rudimentary figure half that good. I can't, so I stick with photography.

LOL!! I noticed that too and was even going to add it to my chapter, but forgot!! I'm glad you mentioned it! Maybe he gets comped a room and still needs a key, or maybe a complementary dining plan or spending account, or???
Looks like you might have been replying the same time I was editing my post. Literally right after I posted it, I realized maybe he had a room and needed it. (reload to see my edit)

That was a great investment - that's the kind of souvenir that is a keeper for me as well! I enjoy my few Disney t-shirts, but to have something that fantastic to look at every day at home... Might have to copy you!

I think so too, Donna! I love seeing it every few hours in my bathroom; Readers' Digest has nothing on Disney Art! LOL! I can pick up a Disney T at my Goodwill for a buck (well, okay not all of them like my beloved Main Street Electrical Parade T); authentic Disney art is a bit harder to come by.

Liesa, what a wonderful experience! I looked at all the paintings and truly lovely!
I really like Mickey and Minnie in Central Park!
This is a keepsake for you with the artists signature and Tink on there, love it!
Not to be a Debbie Downer but is Thomas Kincaide dead? I thought I read this.

I really love it too, Caroline. Such a fun experience AND a wonderful treasure. Sadly, yes, he passed away in 2012, but his studio lives on much like I"d imagine Dale Chihuly's will after his passing. They have HUGE staffs that carry on the spirit and style of the work now. I think if I were to ever get a sister work I'd get the Snow White/Cottage one. I like the colors in that one best- softer, less vivids.

OK, I finally made my way over here and I think I ended up reading three different updates, it's taken me since yesterday.

I'll see if I can remember everything that I wanted to comment on. I'm glad that I got through the part about your mother, the previous update makes more sense.

That must have been so scary for her to pass out on you, but good thing it was a blood pressure thing like you said, that is more easily solved than some of the other options. Nice that you had so many people there looking out for you.

It confused me when in your Y update you said you "parked your mom in her wheelchair...." cause I wondered when did her mom become wheelchair bound? Those must have been some funny moments, not only when your table was stolen by another DISer, but that Jennifer didn't realized that she was eating raw Ahi! I love the stuff too! I really like Yak and Yeti, but for some reason Fran doesn't seem to. Perhaps because it's pricey and she doesn't think it has a lot of value.

Congratulations on acquiring your first piece of Disney art! The Kincaid group has never really been on my radar, I like Ellenshaw, Mulligan and a few others out there.

Since you tagged me in your A post, you know that MMMV when it comes to Disney art. There is not a trip to Disney where Fran and I do not visit the Disneyana shop. But rarely do I see anything that strikes my fancy, this will be for a future update, but I couldn't resist this one when I saw it.

Be careful though, sometimes it gets addicting. Especially when the line of products is within your price range!

Come on @pkondz, keep up!! :lmao:

September this year, she's going with her kids.
October next year, they're doing epic girls trip number 2. She's thinking it will be better for her mom in October.

Actually the EPIC Girls trip 2 is in 2021. I'm hoping it's over MK's 50th birthday as I'm planning to be there for that!

I've missed you around here!

I"m happy it makes more sense now!! Future ones with Mom in them will also make more sense.

It was so super scary. A BP issue is easy peasy; heart attacks and stroke not so much.

It was an interesting meal to say the least! There was loads of laughter for sure! I think I scared the crap out of @cinderkelly when I breezed into the chair next to her and said, "BOO!" LOLOL!

I think Y&Y is a mixed bag. THe food's okay, not Morimoto great, and the prices decent. Those ahi nachos fed all of us, but you can do better around WDW in terms of less chainlike feel to it.

I'll look at those artists... :)

I should know this MMMV, but don't. Many men, many voices is all I could find. If you meant that, then yes, lots of styles to choose from!

This surprises me not in the least! LOL! And it is cute and I can see you liking it.

Ruh roh!

I am thinking there was LOTS of talk of it being then so, I am hopeful you can be there for it!

What a lovely story about your Alice picture. That’s how I love buying art: not just something that looks nice, but something that has a memory attached. I love buying art on vacation as it is a perfect souvenir.

Do you remember my parents picture wall behind the dining table? Those were all from different vacations (and some otherwise memorable pieces). I hope your pieces is the start of a similar meaningful collection for you!

What a great photo!!

I must have a sick sense of humor because I find that hilarious.

Of course you have a sick sense of humor, you're a nurse!!

****SPOILER ALERT!!! IF YOU WANT TO PLAY THIS NEXT TIME YOU'RE THERE, SCROLL PAST!!!!!!****

This is such a pleasant way to spend some time in the Magic Kingdom. I had a great time doing it!

Ohhh definitely one of the best tables in house, but the room in general is pretty nice!

I'm drooling!

She, understandably, was completely embarrassed and in the end we speculated that a recent change of her blood pressure meds, combined with the oppressive Florida heat and humiditiy she isn’t used to, the cocktail she had, the excitement and lack of rest created a perfect $hit$torm that led to the Great Monorail Platform Spectacle of 2019.

Your poor mom! I'm so glad she was ok, though, and it sounds like they gave her excellent and speedy care!

DTD Springs, (< there, a compromise on the name)

That's a compromise I can get behind!

How sweet of him, and what an extra special piece of artwork to have in your home! And really a fantastic price as well.

Quickly.... (not on laptop)....

You’re both wrong. ;)

I was talking about HER trip in October and agreeing that October would be cooler. :)

Yep, Liesa was right and you guys were wrong . :P It's me worrying about October of this year with my Mom. I worry about the same thing happening with her that happened with Liesa's mom. I'm not good in a crisis situation so something happening to my Mom on vacation is one of my worst nightmares.

I like it!

I wandered into The Art of Disney,

One of my favorite stores. Like you, most stuff is way out of my range but every once in a while I find something to take home that's a bit more reasonable.

A Thomas Kincaid Galleries collection with some small gallery-wrapped canvas works- not original paintings, but they sure look and feel real.

I have a few of these canvas wrapped Thomas Kincaid pictures! Mine are a bit bigger than yours, maybe 12 x 12? I have Lion King, Dumbo, Pirates, Bambi, and a couple of others that I can't think of right now. My Mom purchased them for me as gifts over the years.

That was a very cool experience to read about!

Oh sure, I'm wrong. Like I haven't heard that a million times in 33 years of marriage.
Sheesh

What???? No Pluto?

I like art.

Art? Who's Art? Art Carney?

I like to admire art and, like you, enjoy some styles and genres better than others.

Unless it falls outside the Captain Oblivious Law of Art.

I wandered into The Art of Disney, as I've come to make a habit of. In the not too distant past, I'd have rushed right on past, thinking what's the point? I can't have anything in there; everything is WAY too expensive.

That's pretty much been my experience when I wander through!

Once overlooked shops, attactions, and entertainment options are suddenly the very things I seem to seek out nowadays. Sidenote: this story in no way, shape, or form insinuates that Steppe likes to shop. Steppe is not a shopper!

Uh huh. :rolleyes1

I asked the CM roaming the area how much they were, and she replied, "$50". That slippery slope turned into a rabbit hole where the unimaginable turned into the attainable.

No, I mean it's $50 just to LOOK at it. You can pay me here or at the register.

I put it in my "I'll think about it" bank and left the store to head for my dinner reservation.... s. Yes, I had 2. I take oink to the next level.

Impressive...:darth:

The standard, "Good choice!" was given in return

You have to wonder if any of them ever say, "Ugh. I hate that one. So ugly."

she handed one to the artist to sign wherein he then asked me who my favorite character was. I was completely caught off guard. /QUOTE]

Say TRON next time, see what they do.

That's really cool that you got a personalized sketch! Love it.
