Am I the only one that is unimpressed with SWGE - where is the juice?

It sounds like you're being negative towards the park for the sake of being negative. Nobody is really going to change your mind, as your opinion seems to be pretty clear.

And Mine Train isn't all that compelling. Just my opinion.
I love all the rides listed but I'd never describe them as compelling, especially Mine Train. It's just a fun little ride with nice themeing. I do believe we can say more than that for SWGE.

Seriously tho. Mine Train is...nice. The mine scene is cool. Aaaand...yeah, it's ok. Glad we had FP, would not wait in line.

honestly, to me, this feels almost as if you got to walk around in PotC. It's certainly more than just "concrete and a video game."

I would never wait the 120 min I have seen that line reach. It is a fun ride but way too short. I did enjoy riding it 3x in a row during an MK After Hours haha

To the OP who has been continually saying they took the "safe" route by making it an unknown place, I think that's actually very wrong.

The safe route IMO would have been to base it off known locales. They could just reference the existing movies/sets and build a replica of what has already been seen, and use a narrative that has already been written.

To build a new land NOT based on a specific location, but one they have to imagine from the ground up, create a brand new narrative for, and make it truly feel like it belongs in the universe of the source material is anything BUT safe, and extremely challenging IMO.

They created something new, and completely ran the risk of people crapping all over it saying "This isn't Star Wars!". But in the end from all of the reports I've read from people who have been, I haven't heard a single person say that "This doesn't feel like Star Wars".

What locations should they have done? They couldn't have done Mos Eisley or anything from Tatooine, that's a desert planet and Anaheim isn't in the desert. Orlando isn't, either. And Tatooine was a hole, Luke couldn't wait to get off of it. Mos Eisley was Scumbag Central, a seedy trashy dive full of criminals, why would Disney want to replicate that? In the movies it's just a bunch of bland beige buildings in the middle of a wasteland.

You couldn't do Dagobah or Coruscant or Bespin or the moon of Endor. It's not physically possible. Anybody who wants to go to the moon of Endor can go to the California forests where they shot the footage.

I can see why they made the choice to go with a generic sort of spaceport, it gives them a lot freedom to reinterpret the land as needed. I'm sure over the years they'll be adapting and changing the narrative, it's not going to stay the way it is today forever the way it would have if it was an established location from the movies.

I went to the Cantina and had a drink at the bar. The Fuzzy TaunTaun was mostly ice. I stood watching the DJ for a while and was mildly amused. There wasn't anything else in the overcrowded Cantina that was that interesting. I next went on Smugglers Run as a single rider. After two more times, I had enough. I had no interest in building a light saber or droid. I went over to Ronto's Roaster and had something to eat. The food was surprisingly good. The rest of the my time, I visited all the shops and walked around. After 2.5 hours, I was ready to leave empty-handed. If you're not motivated to spend a lot of money on pricey merchandise and watered-down drinks, there's not much else to do. I'm glad I went during the reservation period. I suspect bigger crowds will turn this place into a nightmare. These were my observations and I hope the new RotR attraction makes GE more worthwhile for me.

my thoughts:
1. I didn't think TSL was going to be cool cause of all the negative things I read here (and the negative has increased in general here over the months) and i have been to TSL 2 diff trips now and I like it. not a huge place, but its just cool to walk around and Toy story mania is still my favorite ride.
2. Pandora even though again not a huge huge land is just over the top cool to be in. everywhere you look there is something and that land deff doesn't have disney charm but it fits animal kingdom in some weird way. that was the one thing i was really wondering how to tie in aliens with animals but when you go to pandora and you experience more of the spiritual nature side of the land it instantly fits in with animal kingdom and that whole theme. i think that's why animal kingdom and the lodge included are my "happy place".
3. if i want that disney charm I do 2 things and 1 of them is weird. the first go to magic kingdom it takes you right there as you just simply walk. we don't have to worry about schedules at this point unless we want so how we enjoy the land or get stressed out is on us. ok the second and it's weird being in disney in general brings a diff feeling cause of the heat. ya i know weird but prob its because all my child memories of disney in the 80's was summer trips only and it was always hot.

4. star wars land to me looks like a pandora experience. i will have to wait till easter to find out but from what i have seen it looks pretty over the top from pandora regardless of attractions. again i'm def more of a people watcher and wanderer at this point in our trips even though we have young kids and they want go, but we still slow down. will we in april prob not cause it's new but after that trip we will step back to really take it in.

5. sorry if this was a long post, but overall disney charm is changing cause of all the companies they own and we are going to see more and more lands that aren't "canon" lets call it, from their movies. so hopefully they fit them into the parks they are in sort of how i feel they did with pandora. are there things they have been doing i don't like ya, but it's what it is. it's a business i would be doing the same thing to make money if it was myself who owns it cause in the end you need money to do what you want in life. without working as much as i do i would not be able to take my family as much as we do.

i know that is kinda on and off topic but it's pretty much how I view what they are doing with new builds and moving in the direction things are going.

If anything I think there is more references to the movies than I was expecting with the wandering characters and stuff. I wasn't expecting to see Chewbacca and Rey around for example

i really really didn't think we would ever see the wandering characters like when i was younger either. maybe if it works out and people don't swarm them, they will maybe try to bring back some opportunities in other parks. last trip we saw country bears wondering around meeting people. i don't remember that from previous trip a few months earlier but maybe i just missed it. when i saw that it reminded me of my younger trips.

That's not weird at all. I'm a Civil War buff and go to Gettysburg quite often. My first half-dozen trips or so to the 'burg back in the early 1990s were at the height of summer so now when I go back it feels the most "authentic" to me when it's hot and rather humid because that was the weather when I went and the place had the biggest impact on me. So I know exactly what you're talking about!

Slightly OT, but The Battle of Gettysburg was fought July 1-3, 1863.

The Rev. Dr. Michael Jacobs recorded the temps at 7 a.m., 2 p.m., and 9 p.m. during the battle.
On July 1: 2 p.m. temp was 76 degrees/cloudy.
At 2 p.m. July 2, it was 81/partly cloudy.
At 2 p.m. July 3, it was 87 (the time of Pickett's Charge).
Lee's retreat from Gettysburg on July 4 was hampered by rain, mud and swollen creeks.

Summer is indeed the authentic time of year to visit Gettysburg.

In the case of SW, I suppose the same thing would apply. I'm picturing a theme park in a very cold location and a Hoth themed land.

Any SW land put in FL should probably have weather that's roughly consistent with FL weather.

Why visit the Disney parks at all, if you can get everything from youtube videos? I mean, they should just cancel anyone going to the parks and tell everyone to watch the videos of it :rolleyes2

This has kinda been my thinking for a long time, long before the new SW.

I'm slightly baffled why folks would want to watch a ride video before going on any ride.

I think most folks over a certain age realize video can't really capture the experience of being surrounded by fireworks.

Soarin' is about as good as video can get, but I've never once mistaken it for real hang gliding.

I do it occasionally for tougher rides to see if it's something I can handle but there's no way I'm doing it for either of the GE rides.
