Am I the Only One Who Thinks September & October Won't Be That Bad?

Obviously GE will be popular, but if I were a SW and/or Disney fan and only able to take one trip in the next few years I think I'd wait until both GE rides were open.

Additionally, if I were not staying on property, I think I'd want to wait until at least November to take a trip to avoid all the extra EMH.

We are going to WDW on Thanksgiving, and I think I lean towards wanting Rise of Resistance to be up and running (and sort of guessing it will be). It will be very busy either way for our stay, so I'd rather experience both attractions. I don't know that I'd be crushed if RoR is not open, since I'm excited to see GE either way, and we visit every yr. There seems to be some people wanting to avoid DHS all together when visiting late this year, presumably because they aren't that interested in SW and there more for seasonal events (i.e. MK parties, F&W and holiday storytelling). There are some in our clan who aren't interested in GE; more excited for the Christmas events/decor.

I don't think it will be bad and I don't think during the week it will be bad in HS except for the Star Wars area being packed and the change to fastpasses.

We will see in less than 90 days.

My theory is that the original opening window (late fall for WDW, summer for DL) was set because Rise would take the longest time to complete, but they opened earlier because everything else was done and they wanted to get people in the parks to spend money (mission accomplished). Anyway, that's a long way of saying I think Rise will be open when you go.

I wouldn’t be surprised if RotR opens in WDW 1st. Or both locations launch at the same time. I have my bets on RotR being sometime in November.

I don't see WDW's opening first. DL's is further along right now. I expect ROTR to open there later summer and WDW late fall.

I agree with you. It also makes me think that anyone who wants to ride both may head to CA instead of FL.

I don't think people who only care about SW and not Disney in general would visit both parks. That gives me more hope.

Considering that fall has become an insanely popular time to go in recent years yes I believe it will be that bad.
Extra EMH would certainly intice me though since I don't really care about SWGE which means I'd be spending my mornings at other parks that are also having extra Extra Magic Hours.

Makes me wonder if RotR is announced to be opened sometimes in November.... how busy October will really be this year? I would think many would want to wait that extra couple weeks to be there then... but doesnt mean I'm right lol :)

we've started to track wait times for the main attractions at the 4 parks and noticed that it's very very busy there with school out. It's been in the hundred and something minutes for all of the popular rides, and I think we tracked into the 45 min range at certain times for attractions like LwthL and Small World. While that's not that unusual, you have to think that a time like late fall w/ F&W, or near Thanksgiving, or in Dec. with Christmas activities is going to be even more crowded once RotR is open. It sort of seems like there are more families trying to go this summer before GE opens. While we picked this Thanksgiving for our stay, and I am a SW fan, I was outvoted when I wanted to go near Labor Day, obviously before RotR, with the discounted rooms and the cheap flights (our flights are $1300 and $700 for ea. couple vs. what would have been about half in Sept).

I'd think the current slated hours (most parks until 9 and AK until 830 for late Nov/Dec) will expand but we won't find out for sure until a month or 2 before.

The EMH are the reason I think things could be reasonable. It allows guests to space themselves out more by their different preferences and types of visitors. I get the idea that off-site people could be worried that the parks will be crowded by the time they arrive, but an EMH that starts *three* hours before regular opening, not merely one, allows the early risers to get a lot done and move on.
If my family gets lucky and we go this fall, my plan is to be there for 6am, enjoy the relative coolness of early morning and the company of.other early birds--and then retire to our resort around lunchtime! So that's six fewer people the other parkgoers have to deal with in the afternoon. ;-)

1) They moved up opening times at MK and AK by one hour for all guests (from 9am to 8am)

2) They then added EMH for one hour at MK, AK and 3 hours at HS. Everyday for over a month

They wouldn’t do that if they did not expect large crowds (and cost justification) through whatever metric they are using to determine.

I am expecting and planning for our (already had booked before the announcement) trip from Aug. 31 through Sept 9. for larger than usual crowds. If it turns out I’m wrong I can live with it but am still planning for the worst.

Disney is expecting high crowds. The calendar for block out dates for Cast Members came out and neither the CM or their guests (through main entrance pass) can enter DHS starting August 18th through the end of September (so far)

Disney would not have added extra extra magic hours at DHS and crazy earlier openings at all the other parks(except Epcot) if they did not think it would be that bad. Now hopefully those measures will help to reduce the impact by better dispersing guests. Time will tell.

Its easy they won't release any room discounts on site. You are going to being paying 15-30% more than normal for September-October trips when the parks are "quite". Worst case they make a little more money because of no discounts and best case they pack the onsite rooms and make a bunch more money.

To add I think the additional onsite hours help push people to pay the higher prices in order to "avoid" the supposed crazy crowds.

That is my thought. I see it being possibly busy but no way is the park busier than Spring Break like another thread wants to suggest haha.

I don't think many fans are willing to wait until 2020. I think the weekends are going to be INSANE. We haven't booked anything yet, but are planning to fly down just for a weekend or two to see SWGE. I think the SW fans will definitely be doing the same. Maybe not so much during the week because that requires pulling kids from school and using vacation days.

WDW has sophisticated ways of doing projections. Adding daily EEMH from 6 am - 9 am indicates they know it will be busy.

My DS18 and I are going to be in Orlando the weekend of November 9th and plan to go to a park on Sunday the 10th. Truly trying to decide if I want to mess with Star Wars or not. We really want to see it but spending that kind of money on a single day ticket and risking not really having time to ride anything, I wonder if we are better served just going to one of the other parks for the day. Doesn't help that we can't even get to the park until around noon because of the late morning release schedule for his activity.

What would you do in that situation?

Just follow all the trip reports closely. You'll have more than a month of good info. It seems you're leaning on skipping it, I would plan for that and then, If the circumstances work for your day that you can visit GE, go for it

I'm starting to feel that way too for my October trip... It's going to be more expensive (no discounts), but there still seems to be plenty of rooms at most of the resorts. I think Disney may have finally hit the cap of what most people are willing to pay for Disney, which actually works in my favor.

I'll wait to see what happens, but I may actually add a few days and maybe I'll even step foot in DHS. The original plan was to avoid DHS at all costs and spend more time at my resort.
