Hey there!!! Where's Pete's Grand Floridian Grand Gripe??!!!

Oh please! There is no place at Disney that is all that classy. When we were over at GF in March there were little kids running all over the place screaming in wet swim suits, strollers everywhere and even a dog laying on the floor at a table in the Grand Flo Cafe while we ate (ew). That (all the little kiddos) is why we'll likely never stay there, or any MK resort again.
Yes - just my point - it's NOT that classy, as you say. It's me, projecting MY feelings on it that is IS. And how it makes me FEEL.

I’m not sure you’re aware but They don’t let stray dogs in or even pets. What you saw was a likely a highly trained service dog. Dogs like that can allow people with disabilities the freedom to go eat in a restaurant like a nondisabled person.

Anyone else go straight to different travel sites and look at reviews? 🤣

Yep...the couch scenario apparently isn't isolated. I am really curious about the food/service at the Grand Floridian Cafe. We almost went there this week, but opted instead for lunch at The Wave (shameless self-promotion of dining review). https://www.disboards.com/threads/the-wave-is-it-waving-goodbye.3753521/#post-60702184

Though there is no excuse for the way they were treated, it did make me pause if that management knows there is an intrinsic problem.

We had dinner at the Cafe last year and loved it. Its comfortable, they were friendly, and we loved the food.

Or it was an emotional support dog. Maybe you're not aware, but there is a difference (emotional support dogs can be anyone's dog where they printed a cert off the net and are NOT highly trained) and both are allowed at WDW parks and hotels (maybe you're not aware). Didn't think they'd be allowed in food areas but they are.

Basically, I think we need a whole thread to talk about how much we love Pete's mom. The way he treats his mom is freaking adorable.

I do think she needs a special mic though, it was hard to hear her and we WANT to hear her. I am not tech savvy enough to know what options are available.

I wish I could tell her the blue dress looked especially lovely on her.
I could not agree more! She was just lovely! DH & I watched this review last night and we were putting the volume way up on the TV whenever she was speaking because we wanted to be sure we'd hear what she said. I was so sad that she was disappointed in her room. I wanted Pete to go find her a new room right then and there, review be damned. ;) ;)

I really hope he'll do a DVC side review of the Grand as well. It's our home resort and we love it. What happened on the hotel side is disgraceful and shouldn't happen anywhere on property let alone the flagship hotel.
I think Pete's mom will get her wow factor at GFV. He needs to book that ASAP for comparisons sake. That is the only east coast DVC we have yet to do. I have seen TRs and photos and videos and the rooms look sooooo sooo lovely. I'd like to try it but we're not MK people and being empty nest we aren't as tolerable to rampant kids and strollers and find BWV/SSR/AKV to be more our speed. But someday I'll try it. Maybe a ladies trip or something.

Emotional Support Animals are not granted the same rights as a Service Animal and are not allowed at WDW parks, resorts (except those that allow dogs in general), or food areas.

The dog in the stroller at HS or the yapping dog in Epcot or the rowdy dog on the bus....not thinking they were service animals. I was of the understanding that Disney cannot question what kind of support dog (any with cert is ok in parks and dining????). And I could print out a cert right now for my ill behaved cairn terrier and bring him in.

Also if you read that link, it states it's a gray area and new state laws allow ES dogs. ALso, that was from 2017. It is my understanding that currently ES dogs are allowed at WDW. There have been tons of threads on this.

But this has derailed this thread. Sorry. We did have great food at GFC but not great service, the night we went. It was very busy though. And we will go again. We also love to go to GF in Dec to look at the Xmas decor. That would be a great time for Pete to take his mom to GFV. So lovely.

That CM referred to as “the witch” definitely handled things in a poor way and her attitude needs to be addressed. Pete has every right to be upset at this resort. He is paying top dollar to stay there. The GF is Disney's flagship resort and their standards are clearly falling. It could very well be due to poor management and training. That front desk CM needed to escort Pete back to his room or send someone to at least get him into his room to override the door.

At least they reached out to make things right but the damage and frustration was already done. As previously mentioned, It was hard to hear Pete’s mom at times, so maybe a mic in the future.?

Just saw it and was shocked to see. I have never had such a poor experience with a CM before so to hear about this at the GF is awful! I do hope for the sake of Pete's mother, he does book the DVC room for her.

And obviously no issue with you feeling that way or for you to feel like you are incorrect or something

I haven't stayed there but have been in a few times and definitely didn't feel super comfortablr. Not even sure if "classy" is the right word - more like fru-fru or something. Not to say it isn't pretty but just not for me

I don't find that it's classy but it's stuffy. It's how I'd imagine an actual yacht club that isn't at WDW to feel. The GF back in the day would have been a relaxed fancy to cater to the wealthy's beach vacations and it's not that they were necessarily classy people but stuffy. Kinda like the Howells on Gilligan's Island with the oh lovey and stuff.

The GF was inspired by Hotel Del Coronado. When I was there a couple of years ago, the feeling was of an ultra Deluxe resort. The beach villas were phenomenal as each had a hot tub looking out to the beach/Pacific. So if I compare the GF (and the associated pricing he paid) to the HDC, to me the HDC is worthy of that "wow" factor. I felt more comfortable walking around HDC as opposed to GF.
