Gold AP any differences between Florida Resident and DVC?

After seeing "Florida Resident" APs at a discount from Sam's Club I am curious whether there is any chance these tickets are different than the DVC APs. I was looking at the Gold AP which I think is the same for DVC and Florida Residents. Does anyone know whether these tickets will work for DVC members? I don't need any APs at the moment, but I will likely buy one more before the next price increase and am considering using Sam's. Thanks!

The Gold AP for Florida Resident and DVC are functionally the same product. However, a DVC member can only activate the Gold AP for DVC and only a Florida Resident can activate the Gold AP for Florida Residents. So if I understand your post Sam's has Florida Resident Gold AP's at a discount... You can't buy those and use them unless you are a Florida Resident, Disney will force you to convert it to an AP that you are entitled access too. They will credit the amount you originally paid thus no real savings will be had just some headaches.

That is what I was wondering. Thanks for the clarification!

OK, just to clarify, the value of the two APs seems to be the same, so would they just need to convert the ticket and then they would charge me the difference between what I actually paid and the actual value of the ticket? Let me know if that doesn't make sense!

Yeah it makes sense what you are asking. You want to know if you buy the Florida Resident at say 5% off would they credit you 95% of the Face Value or 100% of the Face Value. This is referred to as "bridging" though I have only seen people use it for standard (non AP) tickets to extend days or add ParkHopper. Also any reports of them bridging tickets seems to be hit or miss and the typical suggestion is to use the ticket first before upgrading (which won't be possible). So my guess is they would only give you credit for what you paid (as they somehow do have that info) and at most they would give you what the undiscounted price was when you bought (thus not locking it in for subsequent years).

Have you looked into discounted GC? Target is 5% off with a RedCard (Credit or Debit), BJ's Wholesale often has 5% off sometimes much higher (can be stacked with CC rewards by paying with one), and Sam's is similar to BJ's in terms of discount level.

Thanks again! Makes sense and helps with my calculations. I am a huge fan of discounted gift cards, but this seemed even easier so I was curious about the implications.

Buying a pass you’re not entitled to with hopes of “price bridging” it..???

Doesn’t seem right to me.

That wasn’t at all my intention. I was just trying to determine if the Gold AP was a single type of ticket or two ticket types for DVC and FL Residents. Now I know that it is two types of ticket with the same name and price which helpful information and why I asked and didn’t make assumptions.

The Disney ticketing system is very complex. Every possible ticket/pass that can be sold is a separate entry in the ticketing system.

I love learning all of the nuances of how systems work. Even when it doesn't apply to me, it is interesting to read how it all works.

Talking with a friend of mine (who is a florida resident) we are unclear is she has a 'renew' option for her Gold Pass. I could not determine as I can not see the florida resident options. dvc members do get a renew offer.
That being said, a gold pass is a gold pass is a gold pass. Florida residents do have those theme park select passes.

On the discounted gift card front, I have noticed that Target how offers a flexible amount gift card online only, email delivery, for up to 500$ in the past, I have always gotten a bunch of 100$ ones. Not sure how new that actually is, but it was pretty new to me.

There are renewal rates for every annual pass that Disney sells. I just renewed our FL Gold Passes and the renewal rate is the same as the renewal rate for the DVC Gold Pass.

How do you activate the DVC Gold Pass? Do you have to go to Guest Services at one of the parks before entering the park? Do you have to show them your blue card?

You need to stop at either a Park Ticket Window or a Guest Relations Location at WDW. You will need to show a Blue DVC Membership Card and all adults (ages 18+) will need to show a photo id that has the same address as the member with the membership card.

A bit late, but did not mean to insinuate YOU did anything wrong, but rather the system may not be set up correctly.

Wrong. They may choose to renew a resident pass at a different rate than DVC.

That may be the case here.

I've been researching DVC and am trying to determine if the discounted AP and other perks is worth buying a small contract direct. Can someone tell me the current initial price and renewal price for the Gold DVC AP? I can find last year's price, but I don't think it's the current price. Thanks so much!

$648.59 new (includes tax)
