Official Disney Cake Chatter - Part V!

I could use some advice for ordering a cake for my daughter's 10th birthday. It will be in August (so hot). We plan on having dinner at the California Grill to see the fireworks from the balcony to celebrate. I've been thinking it would be great to have the cake delivered after the meal to the table, but concerned that we'd be carrying leftovers into Magic Kingdom for Extra Magic Hours (evening) afterwards. We are staying at the Yacht Club, so we could have the cake delivered to the room, too. So - should I order for delivery from the Yacht Club? Or should I get the cake for our dessert after dinner? What time is delivery of cakes to rooms? (since we'll be out at Discovery Cove for a special day) I'm looking forward to posting a picture afterwards - I'm leaning towards a Stitch cake. :)

@PixiePlns You can check the leftovers with Bell Services at the Contemporary and then go pick them up later (even the next day, if it's easier). If you decide to order from the Yacht Club, I believe they will deliver til 10pm or midnight. They will tell you if you call the number in Post #2.

This week's Disney Wedding Podcast guest ordered her own wedding cake via Private Dining at the Grand Floridian because the wedding package she chose didn't include a cake. She said they were really easy to work with, and she was thrilled with the results.

  • Where: Narcoossee's
  • What: 10-inch "Mickey's Delight" cake with white chocolate castle topper
  • Price: $350

I personally would never order a cake for the California Grill again! We had a two tier cake for my daughter's birthday back in Oct. and when we asked about boxing it up to take with us they looked completely surprised that we would want to take the leftovers! There was no box to put it in and they acted like it was too much trouble to get a box! Eventually they sorted out a box but it wasn't big enough, so then they said that they'd have to pull the cake apart to get it in the box! The cake cost over $350 and the acted like it was a major inconvenience to them! We also asked if we could get any help getting it back to OKW and we were told NO in no uncertain terms! I'm sure that other people have had better experiences there!

It is still true that Disney will not do cakes with any Pooh characters? Thanks!

Correct. I did get them to make me a cake modeled on the one in the Winnie the Pooh ride once. It was even pink inside!

That is so weird. Every cake I've ever ordered from California Grill came in a box. Pulling a multi-tiered cake apart to put it in separate boxes is standard practice at Disney weddings, though. And Disney has always refused to help transport the cake after they give it to you, unfortunately.

I was trying to get a Tigger cake for my sister’s birthday. I just had a message left from Pat at GF that it isn’t possible to have the Pooh characters, but they can do a generic tiger. Sis just loves the big cats- lions, tigers, panthers- so it will work out fine.

Thanks so much! Now I need to decide which baker should do the cake - Contemporary or Yacht Club...hmmm

With that experience, you made it very easy for me to decide to order a delivery to our room from the Yacht Club bakery. Thank you for your input. :)

Hello Everyone,

My apologies, as I am sure the answers I need are here somewhere. But, I am incredibly overwhelmed. I would love to somehow get a custom cake during my upcoming trip. I am staying at the Coronado, and I am aware that they do not have extensive cake options. Am I able to order a cake from someplace like the Contemporary and simply pick it up?

I would love a clear answer, on what the easiest way to get a custom cake is.

So excited! Just ordered a Tiki Room inspired two tier mini cake for my daughter's 16th birthday. We are having afternoon tea at the Grand Floridian. Pat answered the phone without me having to leave a message (I really thought I would need to and then play phone tag). Cost is $68. It will have fondant to look like wood, tropical flowers and tiki type things, a tiki mask and a bigger tropical flower on top. I can't wait to see. I will, of course post pictures. Our reservation is for July 14th!

From what I have read, I don't think you are able to pick one up at the contemporary. However, you might be able to get something fancier from the Boardwalk Bakery. The cake experts may be able to help a little more.

Hi everyone. Quick question it’s our anniversary. I just ordered a 2 tier mini chocolate cake for narrcoossee’s. I just told them the 35 dollar 2 tier one with the castle and she asked her favorite color. Anything else I should have said? It was the quickest order I ever did cause I just wanted something small and cheap cause he are doing a larger cake at jikos a few nights earlier for a birthday.

I just wanted a little something for her to let her know I was thinking about us. I looked for flowers for the room but no good vases she would want to use again. So I decided on this off the top of my head while I was grabbing a card just now.

Any other ideas? Changes? Again just a quick little something to say hey I remember! Lol

Have you considered the slipper dessert since you are doing a cake later in the trip? My husband had this delivered to me at Narcoossee's a few years ago, I believe they still do them.

That Maleficent cake is unreal!! lurkyloo, do you know where it was made?

It was made by the wedding cakes team at the Grand Floridian!

I just want to make sure I understand the first post - I cannot get a mini cake delivered to Coronado, right? :(

Last time I was there they had square slices of cake for sale in the cold case at the quick-service place, but that may have changed. Best to call them and see what your options are!

The only Disney-operated place that lets you pick up a custom cake is BoardWalk Bakery. Otherwise, you need to be dining or staying at a Disney resort to order a custom cake for delivery.

@princessmocha I cannot wait to see these photos! This is very similar to what I wanted to order for our first Poly DVC owner trip this September. I wanted the tiki vibe but I have to stick with a 2-tier mini to fit in with our dining plans. With the added bonus of also having to order from the GF, I can just say "do you remember the cake you made in July?..."

LOL I will definitely upload a picture of it so you can see if it fits with what you want. It is ordered for the 14th of July.

I have read this thread like crazy. I think I am understanding this but I just want to double check before I call. If we are staying at All Star Sports, the options are the same as the Boardwalk but I call the sports number. Am I correct that they will either deliver it to our room or I can pick it up at the Sports food court. Thanks!!
