I'm sure it's here somewhere.. but.. What is the expected cost of dinner at V&A without alcohol?

It's a PreFix correct?

TIA

According to touring plans

Fixed price, 7-course $185, 10-course $235, Queen Victoria’s Room $235, Chef’s Table $250. Wine pairings start at $65 in the Dining Room, $105 in the Queen Victoria’s Room, and $150 at the Chef’s Table.

Do you chose when you get there (except the Chef Table) ?

I haven't eaten there but no. You have to choose prior. I do not know if this is done when you make the reservation or if the restaurant calls you but it is arranged ahead of time. The Tim Tracker had dinner there within the last couple months and may have covered that in their vlog about it. Tim doesn't eat seafood so his meal was adjusted to accommodate for that.

I'm sorry but not sure what choosing you're speak of... the room you eat in? Time of reservation? What you are eating or how many courses?
We ate there during our Thanksgiving vacation.

The reservation only says: Victoria & Albert's Dinner so i don't know what I am getting LOL

I hear you :D.

Do you recall the price you paid? It'll help to narrow down how many courses you requested and to some degree which room:). We opted for the 10 course meal in the Queen Victoria room and still have fond memories of the dinner.

As for what food you will eat....it's the chef's choice based on market availability however if you have any allergies, dietary restrictions, or just food components you don't like they will not show up on your plate. DGD thinks cheese is some sort of horror unless it's on pizza and refuses to eat mushrooms because they are "fungi"; she's a tad odd but I still love her, LOL. The restaurant called about a week or so before our reservation, questioned us, and changed her dishes around to ensure none of the offending foods were on her plate. One of our dishes was "Black Cod with Broccolini and Cheese". The cheese was removed and replaced with a nage/court bullion; both the man and my version (plated like an entree) and DGD's (served in a bowl) were delicious.

I would guess that the restaurant would change the amount of courses you want when they call you before you arrive but probably not the same day of your reservation.

HTH!

Probably if it just says Victoria & Albert's, it's in the main room as my confirmations have all specified Queen Victoria Room if that's what I booked. I don't think they offer 7 and 10 course menus anymore; it's what the chef feels like doing and can be between 9 and 12 courses. The chef now chooses your menu based on your preferences or allergies/intolerances which they check on about a week prior. I can't eat seafood, spinach or sunflower oil and they always not only customize my menu to remove all seafood but last time one of the breads served between courses had sunflower oil in it so they made a different one for me. They also advised me when I couldn't try any of DH's courses because of seafood in it (not that he'd have let me anyway but it was nice that they warned me).

Having eaten there several times, I would recommend, unless you absolutely cannot eat something - like allergies, intolerances, literally makes you sick - that you let the chef do his magic rather than specifying things you just don't really like. In the hands of a professional chef at that level, you may be surprised at what you actually enjoy. Like the PP's GD, I absolutely hate, hate, hate mushrooms of any type - the taste, the texture, the smell - ugh. But the first time I ate at V&A, I ended up having a mushroom pasta and it's one of my most favourite food memories (an earthy, rich, creamy little bowl of deliciousness that my tongue still remembers). I still won't eat mushrooms anywhere else but I will eat whatever chef chooses at V&A as long as I'm not allergic to it.

Yep, kiford is right. This is a part of our past emailed confirmation:

It was a pleasure to assist you with your reservation needs. We look forward to your visit on Thursday, November 22, 2018 at 6:30 pm.

The reservation number is xxxxxx578 in the Queen Victoria’s Dining Room for a party of 3 guests.

Menu Style- Victoria & Albert’s offers a Chef Degustation Tasting menu with a vast array of textures and flavors. Our menu is seasonal as Chef Scott, Chef Aimee along with the culinary team are on a quest of always finding the perfect balance between classic and modern touches.

Allow at least 3 hours for the dining experience. On average, the menu will be between 8 and 12 courses. The amount of courses may change based on the size of some of the culinary creations.

Pricing – Menu price is $235.00 per person (for food only) not including supplement items, alcoholic beverages, gratuities or taxes. A wine pairing is also available upon request at a price of $150.00 per person."

Look on the line with your reservation number and it will tell you which room you'll be in and the price will tell you whether you booked more or less courses. .

about 235 dollars per person. When we went the menu was 7 courses only. But the chef had 4 non-menu surprise courses for us. So we ended up getting 11.

Depends on the night really.

In terms of when you get there, I would call them. Because you should have a strict booking time under your name.

So they only have the one dinner price? Bummer. I had an amazing trip planned for last October but had to cancel. No soufflé ☹️

Yes they recently changed their menu. You can no longer pick between 7 or 10 courses, there is just one set menu. I prefer the old way I liked having choices. DH still got a souffle when I went because he had a dietary restriction and couldn't have the one on the menu.

I have the same question. I understand the costs for food but can't find any prices for beverages other than wine (since me and my girlfriend both don't drink) which makes planning (and budgetting) a bit harder. I'm not being cheap but just want to have some idea before the dinner what the end figure will be. Does anyone have any insight in this?

We always got cocktails and they were priced like a normal restaurant. I don’t remember exactly, but I think my martini was around $14

If you’re not having alcohol, assume drinks are less than $65 pp (the cheapest wine pairing). Budget for $50 and then you’ll be under budget. 😉

Sorry I realise this is nearly a 6 month old thread but what's the difference between the dining room and queen victorias dining room as the prices are the same (for 10 courses)?

The QV room is a more intimate experience as there are only four tables. I would eat anywhere there is space:).

They no longer have the 7 or 10 course menus. Now both rooms are served the same menu, which is decided by the chef and can vary between 9 and 12 courses. The main difference is the QVR is more intimate with only 4 tables. I’ve dined in both and personally prefer the main room. I like hearing the harpist playing.

I did V&A for the first time in August and I can honestly say it was the best meal I have ever had. This was my second 5 Star 5 Diamond restaurant and V&A was by far the best. It's not a cheap meal however, remember you are paying for the experience as well. Come extremely hungry and most of all enjoy!
