APs and Resort guests can now upgrade their magicband

I have been following closely also, and also am an international visitor. I have heard reports of international visitors ordering, being charged, and then getting an email a week or so later that their order has been rejected. Basically, they can’t ship internationally, so they send it to the resort, the resort says “they aren’t coming for 6 months and we aren’t storing it” so they reject it. In the case I read- the person didn’t get refunded, and it was a “too bad, so sad” situation.
So I was disappointed with the selection in the first place, now, I would really like the Small World band- but I’m scared to do it. I might try closer to my arrival... but NOTHING about this has gone smoothly- From everything I’ve read - it’s not worth even bothering.
I’m international, staying in September and have a confirmation that my bands were delivered to AKL in June. I won’t know till I get there but haven’t had any indication they won’t be.

I wouldn’t send online shopping this early, but I also think 3 months is reasonable given how hard it is to order.

It's been about a week since I got the "your magic band is waiting at your resort" email and the correct band (Endgame Captain America) shows in MDE and I've have none of the other post-purchase concerns like some others. It's 3.5 months until my trip and I was worried that the Endgame bands wouldn't be available closer too the date, so I'll just have to trust it's okay. I'd love if you could follow up in September after your trip @Jocelynaus!
 
This new band option is so bizarre. Finally got it to work today after an embarrassing number of attempts. What’s with the frequent (hourly? minute-by-minute?) changes in “available” inventory? It can’t be that the stock changes and is replenished that quickly. Anyone figure this out?
 
My email confirmation had the style of the band I had chosen, which was the Castle Band, and the engraving, which was my name, so I know that I had the right band. The email did not include any information on the free orange band that my husband was getting. In fact, I didn't know what he was going to get for a few days, since the order glitched when I hit the purchase button and he didn't get a premium band. It took a few days before the icon changed to show the bands we had ordered. Eventually I could see my premium band in my list of MagicBands even before the band was shipped to me.
For our Poly stay I ordered and received correctly a castle band for myself and Sorcerer Mickey for my husband. The icons on MDE on the 'My Plans' page for that stay shows the snack band for me and a regular blue band for DH. On the 'Magic Bands and Cards page' it shows the correct bands. Did you have either band engraved with a name? On my confirmation email it doesn't say which band is for which person but below the name of the band it lists the engraving for that band so it is easy to tell.

Thanks both. My icon updated a couple of hours ago to show our order. Thankfully I did order correctly. One interesting thing - when the webpage confirmed my order it displayed it in a way that looked as though I’d assigned the magic band to the wrong person (my partner instead of me). I wish I’d taken a screenshot of it but once I tried going back into the edit order screen it would only show me the Seven Dwarfs page. The email confirmation had the correct engraving for the correct bands, but since I’d edited the engraving I couldn’t be sure i’d made the right assignments and I was doubting myself!

I’m kicking myself for not reading here/doing my research before I ordered though. I thought we could upgrade my fiancé’s band at any time before 11 days out, but now I see that’s not a possibility once the first upgrade is confirmed. The website isn't clear enough on that point. My fiancé is perfectly happy with a solid orange band but it would’ve been nice to have the option to upgrade if one of his favourites gets restocked.

We’re international visitors so fingers crossed the correct bands are waiting for us on check-in in 46 days!
 


Anybody have any luck using the Retry button on the page that says "We Were Unable to Complete Your Request" or is that pretty much meaning that it's not available now?
 


I’m a fraud.... after telling myself I wasn’t going to buy into this insanity and I was going to enjoy my free band. I upgraded.
I got the Small World band (I’ve had my eye on it forever.... it’s my favourite Disney ride) and my fiancé got the 2019 Mickey one. I had a perfectly simple ordering process- no glitching, went through perfectly. Maybe because I ordered at 4am Orlando time?
 
I just tried for what feels like the hundredth time to order premium bands and to my surprise there were a bunch of new ones available! Including the it's a small world band, 2019 band, Walt Disney railroad band, kuzco and a few others. I quickly grabbed the small world one for myself and a regular blue one for my boyfriend and guess what, the order went through!! After trying for ages to get the snacks premium band!

Just wanted to give an update: I just received the confirmation by e-mail that our magic bands will be waiting at our resort! We're checking in on 9/3 and traveling from the Netherlands.😄

Also, when I check MagicBands and Cards in MDE the correct Premium band is already listed for me with the unique band code and everything, so I'll be really surprised if it ends up being a gray band. 😜
 
I gave up on this about a month ago. Bought a couple of bands full price, reusing one old band, etc. But every now and then I would just look to see how the system was working. The first week of July I logged in, and the system wasn't giving me the option to order or personalize. It showed regular bands selected for everyone in my family but no option to even change the regular colors that were assigned, much less the upgrades. At this point we were a good 5 weeks away from our trips so I figured it was a glitch, but I went back to check every 2-3 days and it never changed (tried incognito too). To be clear, I never successfully completed any order at all. Not even one that seemed to complete but then crashed. I never got that far.

Yesterday I got an email telling me our bands shipped. We are still more than 3 weeks out from our trip. I don't know what happened to 11 days but here we are. Since we're all sorted for our bands I'm not going to investigate or complain but I wanted to share this in case anyone is thinking of cutting it close.
Actually this isn't really close. They locked me out a good 3 weeks before the supposed 11 day deadline.

I’m curious: Has anyone seen the Spaceship Earth band among the options recently? I just started checking within the past 2 days and have seen most options pop up when I’ve looked at various times, but that’s one I have yet to see.

Not in the past 2-3 days, but it does come and go. The only one I have not seen return is Moana.
 
This really is driving me crazy. On the rare occasion that all three bands we want are there, all I get is “retry” when I go to checkout. I wish they would at least let us do partial orders. I would probably have them by now if they did.
 
Has anyone noticed a pattern of what time to attempt the transaction? I read that at :45 on the hour, the stock updates. Yet I haven't been able to successfully grab one yet. I have three pending orders. AP's since May, and two upcoming trips. Between my wife and I, we have lliterally gone online every hour from 5am to 11pm at :45 for the entire week and have yet to have any success.

This is pretty good info. Although it seems like everybody else knows that it's at 45 on the hour as well... but that's when i'm seeing the update happen. Now if I could just checkout...
 
It allows me to add the upgraded magic bands to my cart, but. when I check out, it tells me there's an error. I go back and add the same bands to the cart again, and I keep running into the same problem. This magic band system is so broken.
this is happening to me too. Let me know if you find out how to work around it!
 
Not sure if this makes a difference, or if it all goes to the same place...but this is the email IT gave me after being on hold for 2 hours
wdw.guest.communications@disneyworld.com. He said there is a special team dedicated to the magic band issues.


Thank you for this info. I had ordered and was charged for a "birthday" band the day the offer began! I have the email confirmation but I only received a grey band.

If you have a receipt that came with the gray band, there should be a number on that receipt. That's the number that I called. Definitely make sure that they know you have been charged for it already. You should be able to choose from another upgraded band from the shopdisney site while on the phone. Others have received a voucher to shop at their convenience on the shopdisney site. I
 
I called today because I kept getting retry. The person I spoke to said none of the upgraded bands were available. They were out. He had no idea when they would be in stock again, but the department was working on it. It sounded kind of odd to me & he wasn’t very Disney like on the phone. But I also thought I bet if I go on the shop website & ordered it at full price, the bands would magically be available.
