Universal Studios Hollywood questions

Hi, all! My husband and I haven’t been to USH in about 13-14 years (before we had kids who are now 8 & 11.5). I’ve been doing some research but have some questions. Currently AP holders for DL so this is new for us.
Tight budget and will only be doing one day online tickets on Tuesday, August 13th. Don’t want to pay prices for express pass since plan on arriving for early entry.
Questions:
1. I read I can purchase in the park at the box office express pass. Is it cheaper the day of vs. online? How much then?
2. Reading conflicting early entry times. Is Wizarding World 30 minutes or 1 hour early?
3. For Jurassic world is it 30 minutes early?
TIA! We are very excited to go next month! :flower1::love::yay::cool1::dancer:

I believe Wizarding World is 30 minutes. Jurassic wasn’t yet opened when we went, but I suspect it’s the same. Unfortunately I don’t know about Express Pass.

Purchasing Express online is $10 cheaper per ticket than in-park. Purchasing in-park you will be paying the price difference between the gate price 1-Day General admission and the gate price for the day you visit for 1-day General Admission Plus Express

Early entry is 30mins. It use to be 1-hour, but that changed last September.

The only attractions open during early entry are in the Wizarding World of Harry Potter. Jurassic World opens at scheduled park opening.

Thank you so much! Will probably not do express pass. Going on a Tuesday from early entry and probably til 9pm. Hoping to get a lot done!
Plan of attack will be both Harry Potter rides then head to lower lot. Will do
Jurassic world then mummy then transformers! :thumbsup2:cool1:

That's a good plan.

If Olivanders Wand Experience has a long line during early entry, wait until mid afternoon to do it. The line for that dies down significantly late in the day.

Also take advantage of the Single Rider Lines they will dramatically reduce you wait.

I have another question, if you don’t mind. I purchased a Dumbledore wand when I had one night at Universal Orlando for a conference 3 years ago!!! Finally get to bring it in and was wondering if there’s an easy way to figure out where the locations are in the park to activate it. My kids are 8 and 12 so thought they’d love to do it. pixiedust:

Your wand from Orlando will work in Hollywood.

Its very easy to find the interactive locations. Look for a line of people waving their wands or look for medallions embedded in the ground show you how to wave your wand.

OP here! We went on Tuesday and it was amazing!!! We left home in time and got there earlier than expected! Figured we would be guided to curious George lot but got directed to Jurassic structure on the 2nd level!!! Score!!! That was soooo close! We were still so early and were front of the gate. Then front of rope drop for 8:30.
Once they let us through to Wizarding World people were running like crazy! My daughter thought that was exciting, but I was not used to that! Disneyland definitely doesn’t let you do that! :rotfl2:
By the time we shoved out stuff in the lockers (which is NOT big By the way!), we had about a 15 minute wait. The castle/school was amazing! I have to admit that I wanted to be surprised and we didn’t look at you tube videos. I went to Orlando for a convention and rode escape from gringotts there and it’s different. I HATE spiders and was mortified from the ride! Thought was amazing but kinda scary (and I’m the adult!) this was DH’s favorite ride.

We stayed til 10:00 (closed at 9:00 but finished off with Jurassic world and went to entrance store).

In total we did (no particular order):
Once: flight of hippogriff, water world, minions, DH did walking dead (rest of us not brave), studio tram tour (technical difficulties so NO fast and furious. DS8 was really pissed off :furious:
Twice: forbidden journey
Three times: Jurassic world as a family once but DD12 did single rider two more times!
Four times: revenge of the mummy (favorite for me and kids!) in fact, DS keeps watching you tube video to relive it AND using his toys to recreate the ride. So cute!

We had lunch at Cletus chicken shack. Great food; plenty of inside seating; kids loved watching Simpson’s cartoons. Had icees for cool down snack mid-afternoon. Had dinner at three broomsticks.

Had an amazing time and hope to go back some day. We have DL AP’s so not sure when that’ll be.

Definitely was doable without the express pass (although we’re jealous seeing the people wiz by).

Also, we decided not to bring my wand cuz didn’t want to lug it around. Decided not to go to Olivander’s either.
