Almost August WISH Challenge-everyone welcome!

I'm back from vacation! Count me in for another month!
I'm Cristin, a kindergarten teacher, wife to a UPS driver, mother of 15 year-old twins and a 10 year-old black lab, and all-around Disney-lover! My goals for this month are to lose my recently gained vacation weight (about 6 pounds). I plan to do this by weekly food planning/prep and daily exercise. I will try to stay within 1200-1600 calories per day, exercise 30 minutes per day, and track steps/miles using my AppleWatch for a daily average of 5 miles per day. I am also in the Walk to Disney forum with a goal to "walk to Disney's Vero Beach" (approximately 1092 miles) by February.
Hope y'all had a fabulous vacation!

Hi all. I am an occasional poster to the Disboards and am looking for motivation to loose weight and get in shape. I am 6 months out from my next Disney Cruise and put on a lot of weight over the winter that didn't miraculously come off once the summer hit.

I am a 48 year old mother of two teens and I am determined to look and feel great for our January Cruise.

My goals for August:

Start my diet in earnest -- I have been good about cutting out sweets, but this month I will focus on eating whole foods and cutting out other sugars and carbs (goodbye hazel nut flavoring in my coffee and goodbye glass of wine with dinner ☹).

Time to start exercising and since we are in the middle of a heat wave I plan to swim every day, even if it's only a few laps. It's the exercise I actually love, so I thought that would be a good motivator to get me started.

I look forward to "meeting" all of you as we help each other along with this process. Here's to the dog days of summer!

The thing I consistently use is my FitBit, altho I have to confess I haven't been paying much attention to it lately even tho I wear it every day and sign up for weekly challenges with friends.

I had my initial appointment with the new doctor this morning and I think I'm going to get exactly what I'm looking for working with her. This morning was an hour and a half interview with health history, then next appointment will be an exam. It is going to mean completely re-tooling my life and changing just about everything I do (and don't do), so good thing I've been practicing developing new habits with making my bed and washing the dishes every day!

I got a new Fitbit a few months back when my doc said "get in shape" -- yup, she looked me straight in the eye and said those words. I too find that you stop paying attention to it after awhile. Guess I should add go back to trying to get 12000 steps a day as one of my goals for this month.

Good luck with your new doctor, it sounds like a promising start.

What tool has helped or is helping you in your journey?

Internet - which gives me access to so many things - you guys, Diet Doctor, recipe websites, general information at the touch of a button.
My phone - I have also used MFP, step tracking, app that connects with my scales to help me track my progress - or lack thereof cough cough
Kitchen scales
My doctor - and keeping track of blood work.

I'm back from vacation!

yay! hope you all had a fantastic time.

Hello all,

I am back, I seem to be posting a little intermittently at the moment. I am one of the members of this thread from other parts of the world - Australia - for those new friends joining us. I am 46 with 3 teenagers including twins. I work full time and constantly feel like I don't have enough time to fit in healthy ME time! I need to give some more thought to my goals for this month - will post them later - my head is full of a report for work that I am writing at the moment.

@sjrec read that article and this jumped out at me...

Motivation is predicated on an intrinsic or extrinsic reward system. Your prior history of success or failure, your expectations, your feelings of self-importance and your self-esteem … will all affect your motivation,” Meyers says.

lots to think about here - I feel my expectations are okay it is the rest of that statement that gets in my way! So much work to do on myself.

I have been cleaning out the basement and filled three more bags with trash-old work files/reports of my husband and then another load for goodwill. I didn’t walk yesterday but my step total was pretty good (although not as good as David Sedaris!) after all those trips up and down stairs. And since I was doing laundry that meant another flight up and down again. Today is a little overcast and cooler, so will get a walk in for sure.

WhooHoo Wednesday... I sorted out a lot of documents today. Not related but had piles of documents - from car insurance, school related things, bills. It was a total mess! Years of it. Feel great it's all organised in folders or shredded.
Doesn’t it feel wonderful to get rid of or get organized all that paper?? I still have a shelf of file boxes to get rid of-luckily it isn’t confidential information so doesn’t have to be shredded, just bagged up.

I completely forgot it was Woohoo Wednesday!

My WooHoo is I held strong tonight (well mostly) when kids wanted KFC for dinner - I used some pre-cooked taco chicken from the freezer and made a 'burrito bowl' instead for myself. I did however had some chocolate.

That is a great woohoo - I have started this process also - still have a bit to do.

Woohoo it's the end of July and I lost 10lbs this month! I'm excited to be through my stall and seeing the scale slowly move down again.

Also woohoo I went to the gym last night. I'm really going to make a concentrated effort to add this back in.

Final woohoo, only 50 days until I leave for WDW!!!!

Woohoo - Wednesday here we come!

After my conversation with the new doctor about swollen feet/ankles, I decided to double my blood pressure dosage (previous doctor had said take 1 or 2 per day as needed, I was only taking 1) and this morning they are better than they have been in quite a while, so I'm feeling optimistic.

One of the other things the doctor talked about was environmental toxicity and having the house inspected for mold etc... I know it's full of dust and cat dander/hair, plus there's dry rot across the front, because of the way the new porch is build over the old. I've been thinking of having someone clean house for me, because in addition to not being a cook, I don't have the good housekeeping gene - looks like now is the time to go ahead and do that... which is the woohoo part of that story! But of course I have to clean before I have someone in to clean, so I'm going to tackle one room at a time, striping everything down and putting it back together... which may include some painting of walls. Tonight I start in the bedroom, which is really in pretty good shape, so it shouldn't take long.

My goal for August is going to be changing up breakfast and having more protein and less sugar/carbs, because I know my current sugary/carby Starbucks breakfasts are setting up the high/low/get-some-more-sugar-cycle that is not serving me well.

Wow - great month!

Keeping it positive for Woohoo Wednesday! First off I found this Forum and am happy to be joining you as we work toward a great August. And, while I didn't make it to the pool before work this morning my suit is packed and in the car for the end of the day.

I have also been working on my steps at work. Whenever I get up from my desk I take a few extra steps beyond where I need to go. Only at 2800 so far, but I am here for 6 more hours. I think I'll go for a little walk right now.

great result @*tinker*bell*!

@4Mickeys well done on resisting the temptation!

@Oneanne we had 3 good cleaners over 5 years and it was amazing but they kept leaving. After that we had so bad cleaners, that I end up missing the super cleen feel and learned to do it myself. Would love a good one! Hope you feel better soon

@zonkvadr, I need to get off the couch and move!

It's amazing how little changes can add to the step count!
