Spinoff: WORST (or least favorite) Play/Musical you have been to

I see a LOT of shows. So far this year I have seen 13 musicals, 2 plays, a cabaret and a concert/workshop of a new musical. The only show I have ever walked out of was a production of Falsettos. The direction was absolutely terrible, plus our seats were shocking (the company mucked up our subscription tickets) and after interval we just couldn’t bear to go back in.

Godspell. Saw a local production a few years ago (SU has a great drama program) and this show was sooo boring! I had seen a production put on by a different college when I was in high school and thought it was amazing, which is why I was excited to see it again. I was sorry we bothered.

Cats!!! I am also cultural and have a refined taste in the arts but still left the show. Granted I saw it on a cruise (the oasis of the seas). But from rWhat I read about the show on the ship is just like the Broadway show and also from the quality of the singers and dancers which is sad. My husband is also the type that would never ever leave the show and would normally suffer through it. He bolted with us to after 20 minutes out the door

Love Never Dies :crazy2:

The musical that wouldn't die ;)

Hahaha, funny. This was part of our subscription 2 years ago. I knew nothing about it aside from being the not needed sequel to Phantom. We actually kind of enjoyed it, maybe because it was just so bizarre and not at all what we were expecting. The plot was definitely an after-thought but the whole freak show setting and darkness was a pleasant surprise.

An American in Paris was definitely a disappointing snooze-fest.

It was part of our subscription as well, otherwise I would have never gone. My wife was laughing by the end (you know, when people were supposed to be crying :p )

I got out of having to go to American in Paris, thought - my wife took her mom to that one.

Yeah, we were definitely not crying. The absurdity of the whole thing made it pretty amusing though. :jester:

My least favourite was Mary Poppins. I am a huge fan of the movie so maybe I was influenced on that and didn’t like the differences. I still enjoyed it but was disappointed.

Cats was my first musical about 20 years ago. I enjoyed it then but had nothing to compare it too at the time. I might be more critical now.

My husband would agree with fly girl about Le Miz. He watched the movie with me after we saw the show years before and declared he won’t watch anything Les Miz again. I on the other hand listed it in my top 3.

I think it’s hard to go from such an iconic movie and turn that into a live show. I haven’t seen it, but it’s hard to beat Julie Andrews. (I haven't brought myself to watch the new movie version.)

Me too! Cats was my first real show (traveling company saw in Tempe, AZ). No comparison at the time, so it holds a special place.

Your husband is very wise. Very wise, indeed! 🤣

A Little Night Music. I saw it as a teenager but I don’t remember liking anything about it. I usually love Sondheim, but not that.

Unlike a lot of people I LOVE Cats. Saw the revival two nights in a row 😂

I’ve seen countless local/school productions in my life that I definitely could have lived without. But that’s not the musical/play’s fault! 😂

Dirty Dancing. Terrible, terrible, terrible "musical."

And the crowd made it worse, if that's even possible.
