I love credit cards so much! v2.0 (see first page for add'l details)

I talked to Dh and we agreed we’re gonna just focus on using the BBP this month. When September hits we’ll for sure get the CIC and talk about an AA biz.

On another note, I think we’re actually considering staying at ASMovies for my birthday. It’s really hard to pass up $400 for 3 nights. That would save us so much money for MVMCP and the cruise that we’re hoping to do.

Unpopular opinion: Movies is my favorite value.

At the risk of looking clueless, AS?

Don't know if we need lie flat, looks like most of the flights there are during the day. Something more comfortable would be great, anything with a way to put your feet up? I have never flown anything but coach in my life, can you tell?

AS = Alaska Air

Depends on the airline. We’ve flown a number of Domestic first class flights that were not lie flat and there was no foot rest. So many of them would be like coach with a bit more room, food and alcohol.

My wife has a southwest priority card. AF is due soon. If we can actually use the $75 travel credit I was thinking we would keep it. Are there any practical ways to receive the travel credit. We have had some surprise expenses come up and will probably not do any travelling this year. But I was thinking of getting a gift card and using it later next year possibly to pay for early bird, but I read that you can't use those gift cards toward actual flights. thoughts? thank you so much.

Nope, not too late to get approved, but whether the bonus will be attached is unknown (even with a mailer) and you only have a few more days left to recon (30 days after denial). DH and I were both in the same position - denied for having biz #1 open. I cancelled both cards through chat. Then called recon between 3-7 days later, but I've heard people have called as soon as the card is closed. Citi recon is fairly painless. They don't ask about your business. But, like anything with citi, whether recon is a success is a toss up depending on which rep you get.

DH's first call to recon didn't go well. The rep told him citi wouldn't approve a 2nd card within 6 months of closing the same type of card. She said pushing the app through will still end in a manual denial. She told DH he would need to reopen his first card before he would get approved for the 2nd. This didn't make sense, so he just told her he would think about it and hung up.

A few days later, I called recon for my card. I just had to tell the rep my app ID number and that I got a denial letter and wanted to see if they could somehow push it through. She put me on hold while she connected me to another recon rep. This rep confirmed I was looking for a reconsideration, then put me on hold for 5 min or so. He came back and said he could approve me, but then told me to hold on while he checked something. Came back and said he could see that I opened a card within the last 48 months and that I wouldn't be eligible for the SUB. He said as long as I was okay with that, he could go ahead and approve. Since I applied with a mailer without the 48 month language, I said okay, hoping the SUB will still be attached and the rep didn't remove it.

Since I was able to recon so easily, I pestered my DH into trying again - on day 30 after denial, so it was the last possible shot. The second call went like mine, except he was on hold with the second rep for about 20 min (all the while glaring at me, because he hates making calls, lol). After DH was approved, the rep told DH he was just checking to make sure DH was eligible for the SUB, because he could see that DH opened a card within the last 48 months. After checking, he says "It looks like you didn't get the SUB on the first card, so you should be fine to get it for this card".....DH did get the SUB on the first card though....oh, Citi.

Anyway, we both got approved for biz #2 (mailers for both) after recon. Question is though if the SUBs are attached. Sounds like my DH's is fine. I don't think the rep removed it. But I don't know if my rep removed mine.

TLDR; Citi recon is easy. Cancel open card via chat, then ask recon to push the app through.
Let me know what you do. Your situation is the exact same that I'm in.
Thanks for your replies. If it was me, I'd make the call, but I don't think I'll use up my marital capital asking my wife to make this call. It's not the end of the world if I lose this Citi SUB.

We stayed at Movies for two nights before transferring to AKL. I was so surprised at how much we liked it there. I wouldn't hesitate to stay movies again. The bus service was way better than what we had at AKL.

I love ASMovies, I think it's adorable!

Thank you!!
I have to wait until August 22 anyway so I’ll probably have to see what’s still available at that time, but I really am leaning towards movies with the new rooms. That would save us a ton of money

We’ll most likely drive to the parks anyway since we’ll have our car. We kind of like taking our own car now that we have that option. It’s more reliable lol

I’d pick AS metal over AA metal any day. This was a few years ago and not the routes you’re looking at but I flew AS domestic first as part of a Biz Class AA Award Trip once and enjoyed it. Since I was flying AS First Class I was able to use the AS lounge in SEA so that was nice, looks like that perk is still active. I felt the onboard experience was much nicer than the AA biz flight I got on next and wouldn’t hesitate to fly AS First again. Alas I haven’t had the chance :(

AS is my preferred airline only partly because they are my hometown airline and offer thr most flights next to delta. But they have great customer service and flight product. They deserve the awards they win
I fly them coach no problem and would rec over others.

part of my fear of not flying with my feet up for so long is swelling. My feet and legs swell sooooooooooo bad, flying home from MCO on Tuesday, I looked awful. It's finally better I think, but Wednesday it was so bad I could barely walk and could not even bend my toes.

Don’t forget that my DH is nicknamed PlanePrincess  I’ve never booked an award flight in either class. That said, one of the bloggers posted last December that United was offering PE award seats. If the award is available there would be a column for it and it would say PE.

I would echo the advice of checking with seat guru. I’d also advise double checking how many points it would cost to pay via the UR portal vs transfer UR points to UA.

Thanks!! I looked into it today and if I can get the 22.5k one way saver awards on united then obviously that’s the best option. If it’s the regular 90k round trip awards then URs beat it out on most cash rates by just a couple thousand points with my CIP.

OK, here's a summary of a solid day in the churning (and real) world:

1) For those who read my earlier post about the United Club card, I called the status line this afternoon and... Approved!! Glad that saga is over with.
2) Had appointments today for the family (5 of us) to finally get TSA Precheck. Used a different card for each application, and should get reimbursed for each one. That's a cool $425 worth of value right there.
3) Met my MSR on the Amex Hilton biz.
4) Received my Amex Gold Biz in the mail, ready start in on that guy.
5) DW's CIP bonus posted, 90k URs!
6) Used both Dosh and Rakuten for cash back.

So all really good stuff in the churning world. But the best thing by far? I've been battling cancer the last couple of years but finished chemo late last year. And now my most recent tests (9 months post chemo) came back clean, and all is looking good right now!! It was really touch and go in 2018 (heck, I applied for ZERO cards in 2018, that's how bad it was), so every time I get a clean test back it's an unbelievably great feeling.

Due to my experiences lately I do have this urgency to do stuff NOW, and that unfortunately carries over to this game and I can be a bit too reckless. My United Club saga actually had me worried about something bad Chase might do. But I really liked the post by @SouthFayetteFan and am definitely going to learn from that. I've had a flurry of activity lately and now need to lie back, meet the two MSRs I have right now, and cool it for a bit. As I've posted about a bit lately, I'm really interested in the ANA around the world ticket, and am going to be working towards that.

Thanks as always to everyone for the insight and support that is provided in this forum. It is truly one of a kind. I'm off to celebrate!

Well I applied SO for a credit card with City National Bank and they keep calling and emailing him and he refuses to answer. Should I just call and pretend to be him lol
If you call as SO, City National Bank will never know what his real voice is like.

I make all the calls for various things for my family and don't even disguise my voice. Let them question me 😂

Congratulations on, well, everything!

But especially the good news on your health. And on realizing the churning situation you're currently in. I can get that one feeds the other but definitely take a step back from there too and enjoy the non-churning moments in between. I'm sure your family is just as happy to be with you on the couch as on top of the Eiffel Tower.

Still awesome news all around :)
